We don't quite simply.

We've made an offer I assume, whilst he's mulling it over and his agent is looking for a better offer elsewhere, we should be busy looking for his replacement.

No point getting caught with our pants down hoping he stays only for him to go at the last min.
If he's refusing to sign this summer, get him sold for a decent price.

If we don't have a list of potential replacements then someone needs potting

Sadly I can't see him staying, even with the new owners. He only has a few years left to realise playing Champions League football and pushing for trophies ( I don't think he'll go to West Ham).
You have to appreciate the way he has given his all for the team and manager during this season. Many, many players would have taken their foot off the gas, knowing they were leaving anyway.
Whoever gets him will be one lucky club.

I wonder whether the new owners will change the wage structure to give a chance of persuading him to stay. But as mentioned, if it’s Europe and England he’s after, there’ll be a few takers. He’s certainly not daft enough to go to West Ham..

I think JT has more integrity than to stay for the money, we aren’t suddenly going to be challenging for trophies in cups or the league title.

Like all good players and employees they strive to be the best, and for him realise his ambitions he needs to move.

He goes with my best wishes. We should be fortunate we even get to have players like JT (and Charlie Taylor etc).

I would imagine his career path is more concerned about England caps than CL and he is not convinced he can show what a good footballer he is in our system.
If he makes the next England squad that could change.
He would clearly make more money elsewhere and whilst they are all very wealthy young men that does, sadly, seem to be the clincher.

Football moves on.

West Ham and Leicester have solved their CH problems it seems, and with hardly any money about. There might just not be a move out there for him at the minute.

Just to clarify, if JT goes on a free, does that mean Brentford get nothing?

To think not long ago figures of £35m plus were being mentioned if we sold him, the thought of him going on a free is concerning for a small club like ours, not a lot we can do though if he won't sign a new deal, which unfortunately I don't think he will.

Why is JT likely to go for nothing?

He's contracted until the end of next season so what's the problem with selling him this summer?

Nothing wrong with selling him in the summer, my concern was that if he isn't sold in that period and won't sign a new deal we could end up letting him go on a free after his current deal expires.

Tarko is on top form at the moment and appears to be happy at Burnley where the team spirit is first class. I think he will give his all for the Clarets for this season before seeking a move or wage increase at the end of the season. I just hope that no club realises that Tarko and Mee are the perfect defensive combination.....

There is no better place than Burnley, for Tarkowski to demonstrate his ability to defend, work with teammates and go forward and pass effectively.

The difficulty lies with the England manager, who prefers juveniles with potential (which often disappears) rather than men who have mastered their trade.

There's no way JT leaves in summer. We'd get a paltry fee and it simply wouldn't be worth it. If you remember that JT plays a significant role in keeping £130m flowing through the BFC coffers, a club would have to pay a lot of money to make it worthwhile selling, after you discount the sell-on clause and whatever loyalty bonus Tarks would get. Plus, JT would want to see his contract out and get a huge signing on fee elsewhere.

We either need to accept that, or treat JT as a new player and give him a huge re-signing fee, which presumably we could recover if he's sold in future.

Whether a deal could be worked through that works for all parties, I don't know, but I'd say that is more important than any January signings.

JT wants to get a big pay rise and you can't blame him for that as it gives him financial security
Despite it being against the rules, it would not be surprising for his agent to have already sounded out clubs last summer in terms of as to how much they were willing to pay him
Add to that he wants to get back in the England squad and alluded to that in the recent press interview where he suggested playing for a lower club doesn't help. We know that not to be true given the caps he, Heaton, Cork and Pope have got whilst at BFC
And, let's be honest, it's everyone's dream (even our own) to play for a "big club", in front of big crowds, in Europe and winning cups and league titles
Most of the above cannot be offered at BFC
I had doubts about his commitment at the start of the season but he is now back to playing pretty much at his best and is clearly giving his all for the cause
This summer would be the time to let him go
If he carries on playing as well as the present his value will remain high and we still cash in - forget how much Brentford get, we still make a profit
I'm not so sure he would give us so much if we refused any offers that he desired next summer

Once a player gets into their final 12 months its only human that their mind will start to wander and they've got half an eye on their next move.
We need to get what we can for him this summer and make sure we replace him properly. I'm sure Dyche already has a few options in mind.

Conversely, the loss of that revenue - given the alleged Brentford cut and other sale costs - of circa £10-12M/year is perhaps not a bad investment if it's made a significant contribution to our staying two years longer in the EPL.

This.

Sell for £35m, get £25m (spread over many years and likely linked to all sorts out of our control). Don’t sell, protect £260m over the next two years, given he’s a key player in retaining PL status. Absolute no brainer in my opinion.

They're generally a basket case club, but also they're not really much of a step up.

Leicester would be for example.
Maybe even Wolves.

West Ham and Leicester are now well covered in central defenders. Leicester will have a challenge when Soyuncu, Evans Forfar, Pereira, Justin, Castiglione,Fuchs are all fit as to who and how they play. WHU got Dawson as cover and is now featuring

If he can get a move this summer, I wouldn't stand in his way. It's a short career and he quite understandably wants to challenge himself now to achieve the very most he can in the game. He can't do that playing for us. I'm still not sure what went on last summer with the toe situation, but I'd say overall he's been an outstanding servant to the club and has more than re-payed the £3m(?) or so we spent on him.

Perhaps a 'no brainer' from our/the club's point of view, but there are two parties to the contract and if JT's not happy to remain, a disgruntled player can potentially do more harm than good.

No matter how much we'd like to be a top team, we are what we are, a team punching above our weight.

We don't have the money, or the fanbase, to become a top 10 Club. Accept that and move on.

Tarks, like all players, wants to be playing at the highest level that he can. No one can't begrudge him that.

Then, add agents into the mix  :o :(

He will have my full support for as long as he wears our colours. Onwards and upwards :D

I think Tarkowski will be very unlucky. I just can’t see many teams going in for him. If he put in performances like he has for Burnley for teams like palace or West Ham he would be touted around all the top clubs.

But unfortunately for him I think our playing style will stop any top team coming in for him.

Not at all, I just don't believe the hype about West Ham that's all.

I don't recall them ever doing much of note tbh.
Hardly a regular at winning trophies or finishing top 6.

Leicester would be a clear step up, like we were from Brentford.

West Ham would be a step up in wages....

As some have alluded to, £20 million in the summer vs staying in the Premier League 2 more seasons. It may come down to that.

We will see where they are at the end of the season then.

Highest PL finish was 5th, that was 21 yrs ago.
They've managed 7th a couple of times but it's generally 8th or lower.

Leicester would be a better move, West Ham not so much based on their history.

We will, but it's a fact that they're more likely to finish in the CL places than we are. It's highly unlikely that they will of course.

We will, but it's a fact that they're more likely to finish in the CL places than we are. It's highly unlikely that they will of course.
So if we both agree it's likely they won't, what's the disagreement about?

They'd boost his England chances, but that's it.

Tarks and Mee could play together at Burnley for at least another 5 seasons. With Pope they are the bedrock of our team. So why not make them financially happy and then build the team round them. We already have quality players in Taylor Brownhill an McNeil. So that’s over half the team. We have 4 strikers who are normally good enough and decent midfielders when fit. So we are not far off having a very good team. Maybe a top quality rb and midfielder would do the trick. So not a massive investment required with a bit of income from a few sales.
