Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
isnt it quite straighforward with Collins? Give them what we are going to receive for Gibson.

But Everton are obviously happy for Kenny to leave, whereas Collins is highly regarded at Stoke if he's playing regularly at 19.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 2:39 pmIf Kenny with 35 Premier League appearances and 31 Bundesliga appearances is valued at 7m, what is the going rate for someone with 39 Championship appearances ?

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
The links to the likes of Collins, Kenny and Knight are nice to see - younger players with potential to develop. All positions that I’d like to see us improve on or have strong cover for.
King is a good player but I’m not convinced he’d be a good fit for us, but I could be wrong.

Apparently people are tweeting Alan Pace telling him to pull his finger out and make signings. Pathetic if true.

I'm sure the problem isn't Pace, but instead the inept recruitment team we seem to have. That may also extend to scouting. I blame Mike Rigg.

It is true, and unfortunately not surprising. He and other club officials have made themselves a hostage to fortune with comments made previously though. Thats not fair on the guy. However I can imagine two conversations Alan Pace has had with SD and Mike Trigg
Sean-summarise your achievements in the 8 years you have been with us". Well Alan two promotions, 5 successive years in the PL, a top 7, and a top 10 finish and with no or little new players"
Mike, I hear you have been with us nearly 3 years, what have you achieved. "Well Alan I have set up this super analytical and recruitment team-real state of the art" Alan then asks what the fruits of that have been "Well Alan we managed to recruit Joe Hart with over 50 England caps, plus Josh Brownhill, who has made more interceptions than anyone in the PL, and before I forget we managed to convince Dale Stephens to join us after 3 seasons of trying"

Well I'm hopeful we'll get at least two in before end of window.
Collins from Stoke and the right back from Everton who names eludes me.
Anymore would be great but not likely unless there's one or two leaving.
Or a swap deal with Vydra off to Bournemouth and King coming the other way?
Doubt that one somehow.
Having said that neither of the first two are likely to be straight into the team.
But they're both young and could be with us for some time.
15m for the first two could turn out to be good business and not really that expensive.
We'll hopefully be getting 8m for Gibson at the end of the season too.

Yes. How much would you prefer we spent? We have to bring players into the squad to improve it and this costs money. I’m sure there’ll be a sale or two as well in the coming months.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:37 pm£17m might get Collins and Kenny, but can you really see us spending that kind of money on two squad members not guaranteed to start?

It might (in theory) cost £17m but our initial outlay this month would be nowhere near that figure....so not that scary.

The sensible thing to do is to buy players before you need them, not panic buy when you really have to. So, in the same way we bought Tarko because we knew Keane would eventually leave, we sign Collins to replace Tarko.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 5:37 pm£17m might get Collins and Kenny, but can you really see us spending that kind of money on two squad members not guaranteed to start?

People on here have also been screaming that we need a new right back for ages.
Personally, I’d like to see us sign a creative midfielder on the Defour mild.

I agree about the forward planning, but that hasn't really been happening since we signed Gibson, a strategy which failed on that occasion.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 6:12 pmThe sensible thing to do is to buy players before you need them, not panic buy when you really have to. With JT wanting away we could find ourselves needing a top quality centreback rather than one for the future.
I think we could use a right-sided midfielder.
But hasn't SD said he's happy with the squad?

We need a good defender in because the drop off in quality if mee or tarks is injured is dramatic and could leave us in trouble - our recovery has been centred on this. We also are likely to lose JT soon so forward planning also key. We can make do with options for RW for now although not ideal.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Just a while ago and before the takeover was completed posters were saying we needed a CH to replace Long or Benson because our league position was precarious and the squad was too small and there were too many injuries. It was also known that Tarks was likely to leave either in this window or in the summer. It can be argued therefor that we really need two CH's. If Collins is considered by the club to be one of them then to me it just has to be we get him in this window for a number of reasons. So a bid of £4.5m is ludicrous in that situation.
If Collins was to be the main replacement for Tarks then it would be more than sensible to have him at the Turf before Tarks leaves in order to help in his development.
However it is also reported that Arsenal are keen on Collins but were unlikely to buy him due to a lack of available money. However with Ozil having left, then the money will become available. If you were Stoke and you thought Arsenal were interested in your player then in all likelihood you would think Arsenal can outbid Burnley so that you could force Burnley to bid more in order to get your player. So by suggesting Arsenal were a likely suitor then that would give you the ability to push upwards any bid from Burnley. Similarly if you were Collins and you thought Arsenal were interested you might think hmmm better wages, higher profile club now where would I want to go ?
By leaving a realistic bid for Collins until summer then we are very likely to miss out altogether because if Tarks goes then, clubs will realise we need two CH's, getting one is proving hard enough so getting two in the same window will be much harder especially as clubs will know we have cash on the hip from the sale of Tarks and this will push up the prices of players that we may be interested in, especially Collins. I still believe the club is thinking of Collins as a longer term investment to develop and not as an immediate replacement of Tarks. That is why I still think there is a realistic proposition that a deal for the sale of Tarks has been already agreed but not yet publicised.
If you were Collins and you thought you were going to be the direct immediate replacement for Tarks you might agree to go to Burnley now but if you thought Burnley already had another more experienced replacement lined up and you were going to be third choice then you might not want to come to the Turf especially if Arsenal could be still interested in the summer or in this window. If a deal for Tarks has been agreed then getting Collins is an absolute must, so a bid of £4.5m would make no sense whatsoever as there would be no possible way of getting him at that price.
As brilliant as Tarks has been for us I think it is inevitable that the only way we are going to be able to buy the players we are linked to is to sell him now even though it represents a bit of a gamble doing so. I can't see us getting players like Collins or Worall, King, Kenny, Knight, Quiason, replacement for Pieters, another midfielder, right winger, new striker if Vydra leaves or any others we may be linked with unless we get the money from a Tarks sale. I still think we might end up with Jones in a player swap (Tarks) cash deal otherwise we could end up with no-one if we continue to insult clubs with ridiculous bids. Perhaps relegation is now less likely than it was but it is still a real prospect and relegation would not be what ALK are looking for let alone the fans or players. Selling Tarks in the summer after a relegation would see a catastrophic fall in value for him and a mass exit of other players in addition.

I'd like to think not! Bearing in mind that Kevin Long is approaching 30? and has lots of PL experience under his belt, but he really isn't up to it week in week out, so putting our PL future in the hands of a 19 year old would definitely keep me awake!boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 7:57 pmBut if he did leave we would not be signing a 19yr old replacement, would we?

Agreed. KL does well as a stand in, but seems to lack the ability to sustain his highest standardsDark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 8:01 pmI'd like to think not! Bearing in mind that Kevin Long is approaching 30? and has lots of PL experience under his belt, but he really isn't up to it week in week out, so putting our PL future in the hands of a 19 year old would definitely keep me awake!

Someone who gets it. Tarks/Dyche/Chairman/Takeover all shook hands on this to keep Dyche and Tarks.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 7:12 pmJust a while ago and before the takeover was completed posters were saying we needed a CH to replace Long or Benson because our league position was precarious and the squad was too small and there were too many injuries.

One small problem with this, there are no suitors for Tarks anymore, Leicester signed Fofana, West Ham signed Dawson.Danieljwaterhouse wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 8:10 pmSomeone who gets it. Tarks/Dyche/Chairman/Takeover all shook hands on this to keep Dyche and Tarks.

Seems Frank Lampard was keen but the Chelsea Board vetoed it. Leicester rumoured to again be interested. Dawson was only a loan at the Hammers. I also think that you missed my point that a Tarks deal may already have been agreed with ManU with Jones and cash coming the other way but not yet publicised so that other clubs do not push up prices with us because we have some extra cash from the deal to pursue other deals plus the need to get in a second CH in Collins or Worrall in this window. I think SD remains relaxed because he knows we will be able to make last minute bids on some linked players. Vydra may be sold to aid some extra cash for players or be part of a swap deal involving King. I wouldn't be surprised if Long or Dunne is used with cash for a second CH. I also wouldn't be surprised if someone like Brady becomes a last minute flash sale to help offset King or another winger coming in.claretandy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 8:18 pmOne small problem with this, there are no suitors for Tarks anymore, Leicester signed Fofana, West Ham signed Dawson.

Relegation didn’t decrease Nathan Ake’s valuation surelyLaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 7:12 pmJust a while ago and before the takeover was completed posters were saying we needed a CH to replace Long or Benson because our league position was precarious and the squad was too small and there were too many injuries. Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
We signed Colin Waldron in the summer of 1967. He made his debut in the October, at just over 19 years 4 months. Within a year he was club captain.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Tue Jan 26, 2021 8:01 pmI'd like to think not! Because even at 20 you are signing a young prospect. At 24 your expecting to sign a proven player. Kennedy is not proven and he is approaching 24claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 27, 2021 7:56 amSo why not say the other is approaching 20.
