Proper celebration at the final whistle. You can see what it means to Woody, Corky and Tarky (photo: BFC)

The intensity on Tarkowskiβs face is the most telling. He didnβt have the best of games but obviously is committed. Great photo.

Re: Chris Wood.
last cross of the game deep into injury time.............guess who headed it clear and stops a free header from 5 yards out for Olli Watkins who had got in front of Mee saving an almost certain equalizer. It's very noticeable how many defensive headers he makes

Or even, a goal every 15 minutes or so, if you prefer.

Re: Chris Wood.
Woody got a package delivered yesterday morning from Aotaeroa and his compadres from the "New Zealand Clarets" yesterday morning... a hamper of NZ Chocolate obviously this sugar rush helped him in front of goal last night

Nothing to do with hindsight and everything to do with knowing something about football...

Are but did he sign for the package or refuse it after they told him how much tax he had to pay

Re: Chris Wood.
Hardly. My post was at a half time where he was playing terrible. He scored a good header yes which he sooner would score given the amount of minutes he gets. Its his job to score incase you forgot. He's not done something extra special like scored a hatrick.evensteadiereddie wrote: βThu Jan 28, 2021 1:14 pmNothing to do with hindsight and everything to do with knowing something about football...

Re: Chris Wood.
Dom - he scored an incredible header. That wasn't easy at all. It does you no good playing down the quality in that, and getting excited about a standard layoff that Vydra did when he came on. The goal from Wood last night was absolutely top class. Going away from goal, wrestling with a player, with little pace on the ball, to win the header, direct it and get enough power on to beat the goalkeeper is outstanding. You may not think you're dissing Wood, but the refusal to give credit is exactly that. Lets not forget, that his battle to win the corner was as much a part of the opening goal, as Vydra's lay off was for the 2nd.DomBFC1882 wrote: βThu Jan 28, 2021 2:15 pmHardly. This is the problem when you focus on hammering players, you back yourself into a corner and find it impossible to be rational. Wood's header gets played down and no doubt through gritted teeth but Vydra's 3 yard pass is quality.
There is nothing wrong with saying Wood was poor in the 1st half if you think that, but if you think he was in the 2nd half then it becomes an agenda.

Re: Chris Wood.
I'm pleased you have mentioned the amount of minutes he gets.DomBFC1882 wrote: βWed Jan 27, 2021 8:00 pm1 goal in 7 for him? Does that make him the best thing since sliced bread? Hardly prolific nor surprising that he scored considering the amount of minutes he gets. For a striker that's dreadful no matter what tinted specs you have on
Since he signed for us he's scored 38 Premier League goals in 8,288 minutes which works out at a goal every 218 minutes. With that ratio, if he played every single minute in a season he'd finish with 15 or 16.
For comparison
Wood a goal every 218 minutes
Barnes a goal every 278 minutes
Rodriguez a goal every 333 minutes
Vydra a goal every 481 minutes

He also won the corner that got us back to 1-1. You sound disappointed that he had a good game. ShameDomBFC1882 wrote: βThu Jan 28, 2021 2:15 pmHardly. Re: Chris Wood.
I thought the starting of this anti Wood thread during the half time interval yesterday was wrong and stupid.
Why support the call for the hooking of Wood at half time when you also go on to argue that you believe that the longer he is on the pitch the likelier it is he will score. That argument supports keeping him on the field not hooking him.
Fot the record, in the second half last night, against a very good team, Wood not only scored the winning goal that got us 3 great points but also would have scored before this only for a brilliant save from their goalkeeper. You can also add to this his all round game including his contribution which led to a vital equaliser.
Why can't some posters believe more in Wood and other Burnley players. Maybe wait before being so finger trigger happy? Or better still don't start a thread having a go at any player playing for the team we love and support, leave it for someone else to end up looking silly as happened last night.
One last point. No one has been a better header of a ball in the PL since Wood signed a few seasons ago. Only Harry Kane equals the number of goals Wood has scored with his head in the PL in all this time.

Just watch the game from last night. Well done Chris Wood. Cracking display. He battled like a good un. Won that corner for the first and smashed the perfect headed goal.
