If there’s any player available who will move us forward I believe we will sign him. There will be more than £1 million ( Stephens) available now that we have new owners but they aren’t going to be silly with prices .
If there’s no one available to improve us then we won’t sign a player just for the sake of appeasing some fans.
We have a fantastic record under Dyche of replacing players with others who have more than proved their worth
Any other talk is just noise in my opinion .

Would be a strange signing Hendry. Not good enough for Celtics starting line up and out on loan in Belgium. Would be a signing where we have to trust Dyche and his team as his pedigree is not the best.
Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Yep, I saw him at Sheff Utd and was hoping we would shell out 10m for him, Bournemouth did and there were reports of him being lined up in 30m desls 18 months later.
Hopefully we will start cutting out the middle man and getting these young raw rough diamonds at source, and developing them ourselves.

To be honest, can’t work out what we have and haven’t got to spend. We talk about £20m like it’s completely inconceivable we could spend it.
Yet we have spent £15m a few times. And summer before we allegedly bid £20m for Phillips. Is £20m really completely out of our league 2 years on with barely a penny spent in between? It’s not like we pay it all up front - say £5m a year?
And we should maybe start focussing less on what they cost and more on what we could sell them for 2-3 years down the line.
AP says he wants us to move out of survival mode, be recognised as contenders, etc... that’s going to take a bit of cash, which presumably he understands?

Given the tone around the club at the moment I would suggest anything more than 5m is a stretch.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 9:50 pmTo be honest, can’t work out what we have and haven’t got to spend. We talk about £20m like it’s completely inconceivable we could spend it.

Hendry is doggy doo, when he's played for Celtic he's looked all at sea, can't see why we'd be interested in him, but I've been proven wrong on several occasions, so if they see something in him, and he's relatively cheap, which he should be, then I'll bow to their superior knowledge.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 9:40 pmWould be a strange signing Hendry. It doesn't sound like we'll be able to strike a deal anyway, looks like too many complications to solve.

I for one won't believe we have any interest in a player until DJW announces it.tiger76 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 10:01 pmHendry is doggy doo, when he's played for Celtic he's looked all at sea, can't see why we'd be interested in him, but I've been proven wrong on several occasions, so if they see something in him, and he's relatively cheap, which he should be, then I'll bow to their superior knowledge.

Well it’s certainly not been the active window Neil Hart predicted. Or the one we all hoped a takeover might support.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 9:56 pmNothing to support that statement. Just a hunch given the club keeps pedalling the effects of Covid.

Part of me thinks the new owner will try make at least one so “marquee” signing. Otherwise I think he will get pelters across all forms of social media

Find it difficult to believe that with zero news/links and the general downplaying of expectations.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 29, 2021 10:08 pmPart of me thinks the new owner will try make at least one so “marquee” signing. Julian Draxler is available at PSG for a nominal fee. He would be a marquee signing for the new owner.

Absolutely crucial wasn't it that the ALK deal went through before the 1st January so that we had the whole month (35 pages and counting) to get our transfer business sorted?????

Tbf, Alan’s been a lucky omen at recent games. Imagine where we’d be in the league without him catching covid.

According to Jordan North and Alan Pace we will be "wreight" I was surprised Jordan didn't play the Chairman with Benny and Hot and then get him to tell us who they are trying to sign

I feel like his statements are becoming a little erratic. One minute its not a disaster if we go down, the next were aiming to do a Leicester. Lots of comments on football agents, most of us could of told him what that world is like.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 12:03 amBased on Alan Pace's interview we plan to copy Leicester and win the Premier League ourselves.

I understand his interview is for the US readers, so it makes sense that Alan Pace gives his insights on the practices of football agents.UpTheClaretsFCBK wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 7:57 amI feel like his statements are becoming a little erratic. Did he use the words "not a disaster?" I thought his phrase was a little more measured and conveying that ALK have considered what would happen if their team were relegated and will remain the club's owners for the long term.
I love the statement of ambition. We've not had this aim since the "team of the 70s."
Exciting times.

Wonder if all this PR with Alan Pace , interviews with Jordan North and comments about agents etc, etc is all designed to deflect from what will be a barren window, or is that the cynicism in me. After all we have heard more from AP in the last few weeks than we have from Mike Garlic in the last 12 /18months

I wouldn’t say he’s said anything inconsistent or erratic. I think he said it was “important but not essential” to stay in the PL. Don’t think that is inconsistent wanting to move on fade-in survival mode, or spring a surprise.
I also think his comments about agents are interesting and fair. I think we all must suspect they’re a dodgy bunch, and I’m sure he went in with his eyes open, but sounds like the stories are beyond what he could comprehend. I’m glad we seem to be continuing our strategy of not being taken for a ride by agents. Personally wish the PL would just ban agents fees and make the players pay the bill for their services - even if the clubs ended up having to cover them by paying the players more, the fact they write the cheques would no doubt make them shop around more.
AP has made other statements though, like he’ll support Sean and he’ll underpromise and over deliver. So far we’ve not seen that, but prepared to give him a summer in that regard.

Joelinton has scored three goals in 54 Premier League appearances for Newcastle since joining from Hoffenheim in a £40m deal in 2019.
Noticed this at the end of the Joe Linton Haircut thread
Puts the problem with player recruitment into perspective
40 mil and say 15 mil wages, he clearly isn’t good enough but is dim enough to post a pic of himself not following his employers protocol

35 pages and still no nearer to a signing. There's not even a decent rumour floating about, don't hold your breath, no incomings until the summer.

Re: January Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Hi warks, the PR strategy is to raise Burnley's profile. Every opportunity for publicity is good publicity. What's not to like about a club that has been the first to beat Liverpool at Anfield in almost 4 years? What's not to like about a club that's come back from a goal behind twice and scored 3 goals to win. What's not to like about a club that has beaten another Premier League club 3-0 in the FA Cup? You don't let these opportunities pass by without getting the PR message out there. And, how often has a club been a featured in a popular tv programme and been described by a well known media person as his "happy place, happy place." Again, you don't let that opportunity pass you by if you want the club to have a higher media profile and aim to build sponsorship revenues, globally.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 9:25 amWonder if all this PR with Alan Pace , interviews with Jordan North and comments about agents etc, etc is all designed to deflect from what will be a barren window, or is that the cynicism in me. This is what American owners bring to Burnley Football Club, the desire to raise the club's profile and sell the club on the "global stage." I'm sure you noticed that it has been mentioned that Burnley's cotton mills were the centre of the global trade in cotton in years gone by.
I'm sure we will hear much more from Alan Pace - and he will earn whatever he receives as wages from being the club's chairman.
Exciting times.

If we sign one player I’d love to see a RW come in with real pace, do like the look of that Bobby Reid fella at Fulham, direct running, pace and can beat a man. No doubt out of our price range, but someone in that mould would be excellent.

Backlash against what?
Fans who know nothing about what is happening in the offices at Burnley continually moaning about lack of signings reminds me of going to the shop for kids sweets. Even as a rumour looks solid there are as many fans saying waste of money, wrong player/position.
The way fans react I’d be thinking, they will not be happy whatever we do so it makes no difference they will not be happy anyway.
Remember the days when we used to have to turn over nearly half a squad each year because we could not keep players... it was rarely the recipe for success, only once we could afford to keep a squad together did success arrive. If there is no one we can get that we want I’d rather we did not sign players just to keep the doom merchants happy.
