Given that some of Garlicks family members had to leave social media due to the abuse they received from Burnley fans over lack of funds. I imagine the same will happen to AP if no one is signed this window.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 1:52 pmBacklash against what?
Fans who know nothing about what is happening in the offices at Burnley continually moaning about lack of signings reminds me of going to the shop for kids sweets. Even as a rumour looks solid there are as many fans saying waste of money, wrong player/position.
The way fans react I’d be thinking, they will not be happy whatever we do so it makes no difference they will not be happy anyway.
Remember the days when we used to have to turn over nearly half a squad each year because we could not keep players... it was rarely the recipe for success, only once we could afford to keep a squad together did success arrive. If there is no one we can get that we want I’d rather we did not sign players just to keep the doom merchants happy.

No. If it did, we’d have spent far more than we have over the past 5 years.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 12:06 pmYou really don’t think Fan backlash will have an effect on how the club is ran?
Pace heads up a hard-nosed investment consortium. Dyche is very particular about the players he brings in.
If you think either of them are going to sanction x £m transfers based on the opinion of fans on social media, you’re not very bright.

I said it would have an effect. It’s fan based organisation. Nearly every single decision made at the club will be effected by fans opinion.agreenwood wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 2:02 pmNo. If it did, we’d have spent far more than we have over the past 5 years.

Doesn’t mean it will necessarily change what happens at the club but I am sure the consortium are fully aware that if they don’t sign a player they will have lost face with the fans.

That ended wellPaul Waine wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 8:51 amI understand his interview is for the US readers, so it makes sense that Alan Pace gives his insights on the practices of football agents.
Did he use the words "not a disaster?" I thought his phrase was a little more measured and conveying that ALK have considered what would happen if their team were relegated and will remain the club's owners for the long term.
I love the statement of ambition. We've not had this aim since the "team of the 70s."
Exciting times.

There’ll be a fair bit of frustration but there won’t be a “large majority” turning on them, certainly not at such an early stage in their ownership.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 2:19 pmTrue But i do think a large majority will turn on them pretty quickly if nothing is done this window. The problem that they have is that expectations of boosting the squad, after too many fruitless windows, have risen. Pace’s comments earlier this month did little to quell expectations with the January window being the immediate focus.
I suspect that the majority may well be disappointed but won’t be turning on them. That’ll be a vocal minority.
Anyway (and I know we say it every bloody window) let’s hold judgement until it closes.

'Fans are already turning'? Really? I think that the number of fans who read twitter are in a very small minority. I haven't seen his latest posts so can't comment but I have seen most of his press releases and he seems to talk a lot of sense. I very much doubt he would feel pressured into signing players just to please a very small minority of fans.

I would still be shocked if we end up with no one after Paces early comments. That being said the interview where he is "alarmed by agent fees" puts a slightly different slant on things. Reading between the lines I'm not sure Alan thought the market would be this difficult.
Still think we will end up with one.

Think you’re being a touch premature there , it’s a terrible window ( Covid making it even worse) to sign anything meaningful . As for the tools that occupy Twitter it’s hardly surprising that cesspool is throwing up a few turds . Mr Pace may well rue his decision to be on Twitter , a horribly toxic echo chamber of filth and vermin at the best of timesNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 2:19 pmTrue But i do think a large majority will turn on them pretty quickly if nothing is done this window. No we haven't and we probably won't, people blame covid making it difficult to sign players but Burnley don't help themselves with bids of under 5 million for a 19 year old 6 feet 4 English CB that will probably be worth 50 million in 3 years time, our transfer process is comical and utter embarrassing at times.

I'm fully expecting the team to be strengthened in the next 2 days...that expectation comes from the comments made by AP and some seemingly very knowledgeable chaps on here at the time of the takeover.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 2:57 pmI would still be shocked if we end up with no one after Paces early comments. If it does turn out to be a case of "as you were" then some of the new leaders comments at that time will prove to be at best misguided.

I don’t .Hardly ever go near it except for very occasional BFC and Cricket news. Though around 2 yrs ago I had the joy of briefly managing a company feed where I was exposed to the full rancid nature of the platform .The great unwashed and their largely inane rantings should be kept well away from the inner dealings of any business imo. I’ve got no real issues if we don’t get anyone in. Yeah, we need a RW, and pretty desperately, but this window is null and void for most teams.
There’s no money, there’s no domino effect, and players aren’t going to be sold if it’s difficult to get a replacement in.

I honestly believe if we don't sign a good, quality back up CB we are walking an extremely fine and dangerous line. The first 7 or 8 games of the season showed clearly that neither Long or Dunne (he's young so he MAY come good) are up to keeping clean sheets in the PL. We're one injury (or suspension via a red card) from losing either Tarks or Mee and being back to looking like cannon fodder. Surely SD and the board saw enough in those few weeks to realise this and that makes Long's contract extension rather more puzzling tbh. Losing either Mee or Tarks would be our worst nightmare and people can say and say and say that Kevin long is loyal and never lets anyone down and he gives his all and, and, and...., but he isn't good enough and that was made crystal clear!

A few murmurings that Burnley have bid £8.5m for Collins today.
Also worth noting that the Irish guy on Twitter has mentioned we have put a bid in for an Irish player.
Can’t see any legitimate links. But thought it was worth posting.

We’ve history when it comes to bedding in and improving up and coming players, particularly centre halves.
It would seem to me to be the ideal time to bring someone in, to give them six months or so to bed in, understand our requirements of a centre half and how we play.

I understood Dark Cloud to be talking about the KL role (squad player, cover only, never realistically challenging the established first choice pair); buying someone knowing they will be Tarks' replacement (as Tarks himself was for Keane) is a different sales pitch and probably a different player.

Before this window opened Dyche spoke that he was hoping to "freshen things up".
4 players of the current squad penning new deals hardly fits the bill.
Pace will, I am sure, expect to see at least 1 incoming to show intent at least from the new regime.

"BURNLEY’S back-up hitman Matej Vydra is wanted by promotion hopefuls Watford and Bournemouth.
The Czech Republic striker is struggling for a game under Sean Dyche but the Championship Hornets and Cherries have made approaches.
Vydra, 28, fired Watford to promotion in 2015 and they are keen to bring him back on loan with a view to a full-time deal if they go up.
Bournemouth want a similar transfer as they look for more goals to make a quick return to the top level.
In their case they would have to move Josh King first.
Burnley would sell Vydra for the right price and have turned down various swap suggestions from both parties as they plan to sign their own targets.
However, Vydra as a buy and on good wages is a big gamble for Watford and Bournemouth who will have major cutbacks if they stay down.
The Hornets plan to bounce back at the first attempt, while Bournemouth will lose some big earners in the summer when deals expire.
So bringing in another one would wreck their budget if they fail."

I absolutely get that and totally agree, but to me we have a guy who is more than happy to be back up and has been for 10 years, but when called upon he really isn't good enough for the level we're at, so what's the point? Early season proved that beyond any doubt. Stop offering him new contracts and get someone in who is up to it and who can step up when Tarks inevitably leaves OR in the event of a CB injury, because losing one of our CBs would be our worst nightmare right now! Again reference the first 7 or 8 games of the season!!TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 30, 2021 10:18 pmBut recruiting a Premier League quality CB with an offer of sitting on the bench barring injury or suspension can't be easy.

Would imagine his wages are astronomical and I think he played in their win at Everton yesterday. Would be a surprising one and I’m not certain where he’d play either as I’ve always seen him as a centre mid who needs to play in a three to be effective.onewillieirvine wrote: ↑Sun Jan 31, 2021 8:25 amJonjo Shelvey has been mentioned via the Talksport medium.
