I may be biased but I recommend Salou. Just 20 minutes from Reus airport (use Jet2 or Ryanair) or just over an hour from Barcelona airport. Can be as quiet or lively as you like and is pretty cheap.
Salauris Palace is a nice hotel too.

Although in November it would be very quiet and Reus airport will probably be closed

Re: Where in Spain ?
Albir is a decent shout round the rock from Benidorm or further up the coast Calpe. Ryanair do cheap flights into Alicante, both resorts are no more than a 45 minute transfer.
Jet 2 go to both Akbir and Calpe and will be very reasonable in November

I spend a fair bit of time in Denia up the coast from Alicante, Benidorm and Calpe. Very Spanish.

Re: Where in Spain ?
You will not be disappointed with the many lovely towns on the Costa Blanca. Ideal for a couple in their 50s.
Serviced by Alicante or Murcia airports the towns include Quesada, Algolfa and Guadarmar. And many more all within good travel distance.

Alicante is a lovely city lots of choice of hotels or apartments. Gran Alacant is 10 mins from airport with lots of Brits and number Clarets. I live in Santa Pola five minutes down coast typical Spanish port with lots of restaurants but no real expat community. The whole coast is interesting and very cheap.

My Father lives in Benijofar, near to Rojales and the resort of Guardamar - I think that would have everything you’d need. With Elche nearby and plenty of other lovely little towns and villages, I think it would be a great place for you to consider.

From your criteria, Malaga is a good shout.
Coast - tick
airport - tick
it'll be the Winter so nice and sunny still but only locals around, not too packed but not too quiet being a decent sized city, good atmosphere
cheap as chips south of Spain.
Re: Where in Spain ?
Nerja on the mainland, just east of Malaga. Great place for relaxing, food and beaches.
El Medano ,Tenerife. Near the airport and again the same attributes as Nerja.

Any of the places mentioned N. of Alicante are perfect. Beaches to the front, mountains behind. Good shopping in Alicante, Benidorm or Calpe.
If you can fly to Valencia the Gandia/Oliva area is similar and a cheap train journey up to Valencia. Which, as mentioned, is superb.

Re: Where in Spain ?
Benalmadena Pueblo is the closest you will get to an Andalusian village on the coast. It's up in the hills above Benalmadena away from all the usual Brit-type places (Wigan Bar anyone!) 20 minute train ride to Arroyo dela Miel from Malaga Airport and short 6 euro taxi to the villlage. Look up La Posada for accommodation. Lots of nice restaurants and bars and really nice pedestrianised streets leading to a central quare with the famous La Nina funtain.

Another vote for San Sebastián.willsclarets wrote:San Sebastien would be my pick. Beautiful mountains and coastline, amazing food and a few choices of la Liga grounds too!
Fabulous place.
Prop yourself up at a bar in the Old Town, help yourself to a few plates of Pintxos, and get chatting to the locals.

I live in Rojales. Well between Rojales and Benijofar. A few clarets in the area and a couple of bars showing all Burnley games. Although not at the moment as all bars are closed until 15th Feb at least.
Re: Where in Spain ?
Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote. Nice and warm in November and close enough to the airport that you can see the pilots sunglasses brand as the jets pass over your sunbed

Unless you only want the beach there is more to see and do in Barca or Valencia and they both have beaches. Seen San Sebastian mentioned, got your beach but not sure how many holiday days you could spin it out for. It is a lovely place though.

Re: Where in Spain ?
Not far from San Sebastian is Santander. Beautiful architecture and great bars and restaurants. Northern Spain is not cheap, though. And the end of November could be cold.
On reflection, I'd head south. A really nice small town on the south coast in Granada province is La Rabita. There isn't much there, though. I went on my own from Portugal on my bike. Great hotel on the front with underground parking and a couple of good bars, especially the one on the front.
The most southerly point of Europe is Spain's southwest: Tarifa is accessible from Cadiz, itself well worth staying in.

Re: Where in Spain ?
Calan Bosch in Menorca is an incredibly relaxing break. Essentially a resort built around a small marina surrounded by restaurants, shops and bars but a very relaxed nightlife and certainly more family oriented. We love it there, just a shame that the hotel we tended to stay at (Valentin Star) is adults only - no longer on the agenda since we had my little girl in 2017!
Only thing I am totally unsure is what sort of 'season' you're going to get in November, can imagine a lot of it is totally shut up but I truly aren't sure. Weather wise at that time too, again I wouldn't be sure (we tended to go in September when it was usually 25-28c most days).

Re: Where in Spain ?
Blimey one year on!!!
Mum used to live in La Cala, and then Elviria...........all along that coast is fab, and much improved since the 70’s!!
We had a nice hotel booked in Fuengirola which got cancelled due to lockdown, lots of fab restaurants and bars etc if you look for them aside from the tacky Brit bars......plus as you say, you get the footy!
Cheap flight and get the train from the airport.......every 20 mins and just a couple of euro.s, plus if you want a day in Malaga you can just jump the train again........
