Since when do you have to have been near an FA cup to pull some balls out of a hat?

Yep! that would have been a winnable tie as well, makes the surrender the other night even harder to bear now. we may not have won it, but a semi-final place was there for the taking, Oh! well back to the excitement of our fake relegation battle, Oh! the joys.

Ridiculous. Makes the other night even more devastating considering it would have been a perfectly winnable tie

The irony was that both Carney and Hoddle did the wolves /soton game tonight, and both were critical of wolves because they played a weakened side, then they had to respond the the host talking about "The magic of the cup"

Its a shame we wont have any fans on the game Saturday as I was hoping we could maybe get a photo album put together like the one linked below so we could tell our future grandchildren about those magical 3 pts we won away at Palace.

Re: Two women doing FA Cup Draw!
Why Wolves fielded a weakened side tonight baffles me, they are well safe in the PL, and they've got no chance of making Europe, so effectively their season is now over, I can't imagine their fans will be impressed by that decision, and even more so after witnessing the draw which would have sent them to a Championship team.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 7:57 pmThe irony was that both Carney and Hoddle did the wolves /soton game tonight, and both were critical of wolves because they played a weakened side, then they had to respond the the host talking about "The magic of the cup"

Southampton at home for our 2nd FA Cup semi in 60 years......
Would have been nice to have spent the next 6 weeks dreaming. I’d happily have taken a defeat against Palace for that, but hey ho.

Compare that attitude with Southampton, who after a good win have stopped the rot they were on and now have a very winnable quarter final to look forward to.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:12 pmWhy Wolves fielded a weakened side tonight baffles me, they are well safe in the PL, and they've got no chance of making Europe, so effectively their season is now over, I can't imagine their fans will be impressed by that decision, and even more so after witnessing the draw which would have sent them to a Championship team.

No issue at all with it, in the age of equality we shouldn't even feel the need to comment on.it. All gender discrimination should be consigned to the dustbin of history and I look forward to the day when two men can do the draw for the world ironing competition.

Not sure if you saw my post on the other thread but we generally lose anyway the match after a cup game. It doesn’t make the blind bit of difference resting the players.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:32 pmSouthampton at home for our 2nd FA Cup semi in 60 years......

Re: Two women doing FA Cup Draw!
You’d have taken a defeat against Palace? Well wouldn’t have. A semi final spot against either one of Man City, Man Utd or Chelsea and then, if you get through that, a final against one of the others. Remember Wigan in 2013 and what happened to them.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:32 pmSouthampton at home for our 2nd FA Cup semi in 60 years......

Re: Two women doing FA Cup Draw!
Just because we rested players on Tuesday, and were dumped out of the cup in limp fashion, doesn't automatically mean we'll get a result at Palace, we could still lose on Saturday, and that's why we should have treated the cup tie seriously, it's all fine and dandy seeing there's always next season, but we could easily be drawn against one of the big 6 in the 3rd round, this is precisely why we should have grabbed this opportunity with both hands, because it may not come around again for many years.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 8:32 pmSouthampton at home for our 2nd FA Cup semi in 60 years......

Look at Southampton they've been on a bad run in the league, including the 9-0 at OT, and yet despite that they've at least given their supporters something to look forward too for the next month or so, and however comes through that tie will at least have the experience of a Wembley appearance, that's what football should be about not balance sheets.

But you probably wouldn’t have been able to go to the final even if we’d have made it through. So the ‘experience’ wouldn’t have been an experience anyway.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:09 pmJust because we rested players on Tuesday, and were dumped out of the cup in limp fashion, doesn't automatically mean we'll get a result at Palace, we could still lose on Saturday, and that's why we should have treated the cup tie seriously, it's all fine and dandy seeing there's always next season, but we could easily be drawn against one of the big 6 in the 3rd round, this is precisely why we should have grabbed this opportunity with both hands, because it may not come around again for many years.

Re: Two women doing FA Cup Draw!
Couldn’t agree more. Get a big vibe going and the balance sheet looks after itself. More publicity. More commercial income. More TV appearances. Better players.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:09 pmJust because we rested players on Tuesday, and were dumped out of the cup in limp fashion, doesn't automatically mean we'll get a result at Palace, we could still lose on Saturday, and that's why we should have treated the cup tie seriously, it's all fine and dandy seeing there's always next season, but we could easily be drawn against one of the big 6 in the 3rd round, this is precisely why we should have grabbed this opportunity with both hands, because it may not come around again for many years.

The only reason not to do it is negativity and fear of failure (and also as WinstonWhite points out above, cup games with rested players, and I’d add international breaks, are often followed by bad league performances at Burnley).
The big sides have a lot to lose too, by missing out on Champions League wealth with fatigue and injuries, but they invariable play most of the big names. Why? Because they are winners. That’s what winners do.

Re: Two women doing FA Cup Draw!
I wouldn't have gone to the final anyway, as I don't attend matche, and if that's your argument, that it's not the same when fans can't attend then fair enough, now if fans could attend would you think differently?, or like some others does the cup not take priority, you do realise that we could still be drawn into the relegation mix whether we're involved in the latter stages of the cup or not, and this was a genuine chance to bring some excitement and positive media attention to the town and the club, it's staggering that we've not reached the last 4 of the FA Cup in almost 60 years, and we won't get a better chance for many years, history should have taught us that.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:15 pmBut you probably wouldn’t have been able to go to the final even if we’d have made it through. Whatever happened to Dare To Dream. And trying to bring excitement, just look at the impact our ‘Capital Punishment’ run had on the entire town, and most of the memorable games mentioned on this forum are usually semi-finals and finals, I can't recall many league matches generating such excitement a real cup run does, or the lasting memories.

Re: Two women doing FA Cup Draw!
Seeing Bournemouth get Southampton has like others have said made the loss the other night even harder to take.
A winnable tie for a semi-final appearance at Wembley
A mate of mine is a big Wigan fan from the old Springfield Park days and he said let’s face it “you” will eventually get relegated and the squad we will have then will be weaker and have even less chance of winning the cup. He said he still wouldn’t have swapped them staying up over winning the cup.

Re: Two women doing FA Cup Draw!
Precisely! the odds are that we will be relegated in the next few years, we've done well to swim against the tide thus far, but you can only defy gravity for so long, and in this case it'd be wonderful have something to remember from our time in the sun, and who knows if you get to the semi-final, then it's not beyond the realms that you could meet Everton or Leicester, instead of either Manchester club, and in a one-off game we've already shown that we're a match for anybody out with Man City, so it still grates a couple of days later that we went out so meekly, now it's also perfectly possible that we could have lost to Bournemouth even with our strongest available XI playing, but annoying as that would have been at least we would have given it a real crack, TBH if we're not going to take the cup seriously in round 5, then we might as well just play the youth team in the 3rd round next season, and get our involvement over and done ASAP, at least in that scenario our hopes wouldn't be built up, only to be cruelly dashed.Dy1geo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:19 pmSeeing Bournemouth get Southampton has like others have said made the loss the other night even harder to take.

Simple solution next season, just make sure we forget to post our paperwork, after all the admin team apparently weren't aware that Pieters was suspended for Tuesday's game, so it's not like they're up to task is it.kentonclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 10:49 pmSince the general consensus seems to be that we never take the FA Cup seriously why enter the competition at all?
