How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
So after that farce on Tuesday, how many points do we need to gain from these 3 fixtures to justify all those changes, and throwing a potential semi-final berth down the drain, I'd say at least 6 with one of the wins being against Fulham, anything less and questions will be asked of SD and rightly so.

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
More than Fulham get in their next three games....
And, if by chance those games go disastrously wrong, I don't think Dyche or anybody else will be listening to a few numpties' whinges about an FA cup loss.
There'll be plenty on here hoping we fail of course but that's up to them.

We need to at least win 2 of them

Dyche v Allardyce certainly won't be one for the purists.
Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
As if no one has used the really funny put down phrase of drama queenery yet.
Are all the comedians in bed or something?
Back to the OP, well it's at least 3 on Saturday, then I cznt see us losing both home games, so I'd go for between 4 and 7.
Which will be easily enough to keep us up, and possibly wondering what if.

Important not to lose any of these - a win against Fulham and 2 draws wouldn’t be the end of the world

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
West Brom can't buy a win right now.
If Zaha is out that helps us.
Fulham aren't much more use.
Minimum of 6 points, I'd be happier with 9.

An absolute minimum of 9

In an ideal world ...
Head says a draw at Palace (Heart says we are well capable of all 3 though)
Head says beat Fulham and draw with West Brom (Heart says win both)...
So minimum 5 points but ... all 9 points are well within our grasp if we play to our potential.
Pushing us over the 30 points with 13 games to play

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
I'd hope at least 5 but so long as we dont lose to Fulham and WBA it wouldn't harm us greatly. 7 would get us to a 30 point total and we'd then possibly only need another 5 or 6 to be safe given how many the current bottom 3 have.
Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
9 would be nice but 12 would be superb.
Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
15 or I'm done with it all
Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
As won't be the game on Sat or the one against Fulham
In terms of football style I don't think I've seen us play so boring/predictive/negative as this year (been a season ticket holder for over 30 years)
And please don't throw wins against Arsenal, Liverpool and Villa at me cos in the first two we were fortunate that the opposition were way below their best, and in the third we produced for 45 mins
Injuries may have played some part in terms of no settled team framework but even wearing claret and blue specs, surely people can see there needs to be major changes this summer
And that includes tactics as well as personnel
I predicted a draw against Brighton and think the same for the next three - which could be enough if we also draw away to Fulham and Sheff Utd
Still 100% behind the guys but like to take a realistic view on our performances so far

2 wins or 1 win and 2 draws minimum. 5 or 6 points.
Newcastle have a difficult 3 games ahead and plenty of injuries - hopefully we'll bounce ahead of them by the end of the next 3.

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
Nothing justifies those changes, I’m tempted to hope for zero points just to prove a point to those in the club with that mindset, but I’m too fierce a competitor for that, and they are too arrogant to realise they were wrong, so I do hope we win and think we will take 6 points from those games.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 9:15 pmSo after that farce on Tuesday, how many points do we need to gain from these 3 fixtures to justify all those changes, and throwing a potential semi-final berth down the drain, I'd say at least 6 with one of the wins being against Fulham, anything less and questions will be asked of SD and rightly so.
For the record, if Tarky and Westwood had been playing on Tuesday, the two who would have kept it as a winnable lineup (although Mee too would have been ideal), I still think we would get 6 points. But we will never know. Just like we will never know if we will ever see Burnley at Wembley again.

As it was pointed out earlier in this thread some will want to see us fail, just to prove a point.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:46 pmNothing justifies those changes, I’m tempted to hope for zero points just to prove a point to those in the club with that mindset

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
We're in a damn fortunate position. Generally we've been crap this season but lucky for us there's been some really bad teams doing worse than us.
As long as we don't lose against Fullham and West Bromich Albion we should be okay. 3 points vs Crystal Palace and 0 v West Brom and Fullham may not be as good for us as 2 points, both draws against our relegation rivals.

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
5 would be OK for me. The caveat to that being beat Fulham, as they're the ones most likely to catch us. I'd snap your hand off if you offered me 6, again winning the latter two of that trio of games.
Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
More than or equal to the maximum Sheff Utd, Fulham or West Brom pick up in the next 3 games. In three games time if the points difference is the same as it is today the pressure builds on the bottom 3. I do not fear relegation but equally I don't want us to be relegated ever.

Is it the clubs fault that Jay missed one of the easiest chances you will ever see, and could have changed the out come of the game..... Then nobody would have been complaining about team selection... Or suggesting arrogance.... It would have been a winning lineup without those you think might have made a difference..... As long as we didn't miss any more open goals.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:46 pmNothing justifies those changes, I’m tempted to hope for zero points just to prove a point to those in the club with that mindset, but I’m too fierce a competitor for that, and they are too arrogant to realise they were wrong, so I do hope we win and think we will take 6 points from those games.

3 draws would not be the end of the world, but we must not lose to Fulham.
Most likely 4.
5 would be good.

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
Minimum 4 points for me with 3 against Fulham.
Ideally 6 with wins against Fulham and West Brom.
The sooner we get to around 30 points the better.
Win all three then I think we can be more than confident
we'll stay up.

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
Of our remaining games you would expect that we'll get very little from Spurs, ARSENAL, Everton, LEICESTER, Man Utd and LIVERPOOL.
38 points has been enough to stay up virtually every season and the bottom three are not above average on points so that should do.
To get to 38 we need to get 15 points from Palace, FULHAM, WBA, Southampton, Wolves, WEST HAM, Fulham, LEEDS and Sheffield United.
That's 15 points from 9 games or 5 points from every 3.
On paper FULHAM and WBA ought to be the best bet but we know that those teams will be looking at these games as must win games too.
I would expect Palace to put up less of a fight, Fulham to have less about them and WBA to be really difficult for us to break down.
I'm guessing at two wins and a draw but avoiding defeat against Fulham and WBA will be good enough if it means we put a dent in their golden numbers. I'd rather take points from the next three than have to go into the last three against Leeds, Liverpool and Sheffield needing to get points on the board.

It’s a bit of a jump to say we would have won the game had Jay scored, seeing as they scored 2 goals without reply.Grumps wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:01 amIs it the clubs fault that Jay missed one of the easiest chances you will ever see, and could have changed the out come of the game..... Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
Agree.
People point at instances in life and say things would have been different had it not happened (e.g. bad luck). But the reality is that the mentality and motivation we have and the quality we surround ourselves with make a big difference.
Like if I buy a knackered old banger, it may not break down on the M65, but it may do by the time I get to the M66. The Clarets essentially played with the equivalent of that old banger on Tuesday.
So, with Jay’s miss, yes, he could have scored, but the quality of player we put out, the motivation coming from the manager (of not being bothered) and the obvious lack of tempo from the players would sooner or later have lost us the game, regardless of what happened with Jay. If by some fluke we had won, it would have been the travesty of the century.
That in itself is just about bearable, but what still makes me feel sick is the thought that the club seemingly don’t care despite we may only have had Southampton then two of Leicester, Everton and Chelsea (if home teams win) to win the FA Cup and get into Europe. Very winnable. That attitude makes it almost impossible to find a reason to carry on supporting Burnley. Fighting to stay up every year is not enough. Life’s too short. There wouldn’t be enough excitement.

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
Yes we clearly have the same mindset CC, however sadly Sean and the club think differently, and their holy grail is the PL cash cow, I'm a realist and I fully expect us to be relegated at some point over the next 5 years, that's just the reality for a club of our stature, so well we have a chance in any cup such as this year we should try and go as far as possible, and with that incredibly favourable draw the semi-final wasn't out of the question, no we can't attend, and we probably wouldn't have won the cup anyway, but even making the last 4 would have been an achievement in itself, and this alone would have brought some much needed cheer to the fans if nothing else, if the complete mindset of the club is purely PL survival year in and year out, then I've got bad news for them, as it's highly likely that we will go down at some point, because out with the traditional big 6, and perhaps Everton & Leicester every other club has experienced relegation in recent times, so the odds are it will happen sooner or later however much we prioritise remaining in this division.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:46 pmNothing justifies those changes, I’m tempted to hope for zero points just to prove a point to those in the club with that mindset, but I’m too fierce a competitor for that, and they are too arrogant to realise they were wrong, so I do hope we win and think we will take 6 points from those games.

If not winning a trophy, and being practical the domestic cups are our best chance, then what are the aims of BFC, beyond merely surviving at the top table, yes it was a great journey getting here, but what's the next step in our evolution, because as far as I can see we're perfectly happy to just tread water every season as long as we stay above the trap door. As it happens your best hope of seeing Burnley at Wembley again is if we go down, and then make the play-off final, but beyond that you've got no hope and Bob Hope, because SD has made it abundantly clear that he doesn't care a jot about cup football, and even if we replaced him I'm not convinced any other manager would treat the cups any differently, given the pressure from the top to remain in the PL at all costs.
I do think we'll take at least 6 points from these fixtures, as that's what we do against the bottom sides, but it still won't erase the disappointment of throwing a great chance of a cup run away, and even with a cup run we'd have been fine anyway this season, as the chances of Fulham catching us are slim to say the least.

As you say a place in the final is European football and who would have thought that could happen again, yet we were only 2 games away from it if we got past Bournemouth. Who cares about fans not being allowed, we can't let this pandemic ruin everything we once enjoyed. It would be part of our history again and something to tell our future generations.

No it's not. If the winner has already secured a spot in Europe then any remaining places in the Europa league go on league position.

Re: How many points from the Palace, Fulham & West Brom games
I don't think we'll need anything like 38 points to stay up, dibraidio, I'd say 34 would be nearer the mark.
Should we pick up a point at Selhurst Park tomorrow and Fulham lose at Everton (neither outrageous scenarios), then I reckon another 11 should suffice. Although of course, let's get as many as possible.
That would give us a lead over Fulham of twenty points.
(Over the course of the rest of the season).
That would mean Fulham would have to win another SEVEN games to overhaul us. They've currently won two.
And anyone who thinks Fulham will will win another 7
needs a serious chat with the laughing doctor.
The only downside is they've got a slightly better GD.
So we could do with scoring a few more.
All of which seems to point to us being OK.
