Re: Today's football
Not according to the table they're not, hence why they sit 17th, however they owe this placing mainly due to a decent start, including a victory over us, but their form has been shocking in the last few months, and they've been fortunate to face Everton & Southampton when both were woefully out of form, but other than that they haven't threatened to win a game for quite some time, and you do wonder just how long Bruce will get, Mike Ashley must be pondering a change, if not immediately than certainly come the end of the season, when you compare Newcastle's budget to Burnley's it's obvious they are underachieving.

I don't know what was in Chelsea's tea at halftime but they have been like a completely different team in the second half.

Re: Today's football
Exactly! my point, and people moan about our misfiring strikers, yes Callum Wilson is out, but a club of Newcastle's size should be able to cope with his absence, and he won't be back in action for a good few weeks, so Steve Bruce somehow has to find a way of winning games without him, if not then they really will be looking over their shoulders at Fulham.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:43 pm40 million on Joelinton and 20 (ish) for Almiron............
TBH as long as we're not involved down there I'm quite content to enjoy viewing the battle for the rest of the season.

Re: Today's football
Come on Tiger...Newcastle are a shocking team, any club what spends 40 million on Joelinton must be barmy,do you think anyone scouted this guy or did they sign him because he had a fancy sounding name and came from Brazil, someone shafted Newcastle there.....a badly run club from top to bottom ....the players look totally uninterested.....tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:38 pmNot according to the table they're not, hence why they sit 17th, however they owe this placing mainly due to a decent start, including a victory over us, but their form has been shocking in the last few months, and they've been fortunate to face Everton & Southampton when both were woefully out of form, but other than that they haven't threatened to win a game for quite some time, and you do wonder just how long Bruce will get, Mike Ashley must be pondering a change, if not immediately than certainly come the end of the season, when you compare Newcastle's budget to Burnley's it's obvious they are underachieving.

2-0 Liverpool Salah & Mane, totally against the run of play, but I don't suppose Klopp will care.

Re: Today's football
I noticed that Steven Fletcher scored the winner for Stoke tonight. I didn’t realise that he had signed for them or that it was the same Steven Fletcher. It just seems such a long time ago that he played for Burnley. He’s certainly got a lot more hair than he used to have all those years ago.

4-1 to PSG at Barca, this Barcelona team needs a major overhaul on and off the pitch, they're going nowhere under Koeman.
HT for Mbappe who's been unplayable tonight.

Well! you'd expect him to at least win Ligue 1, although just browsing the table that's by no means guaranteed, I can't see them winning the CL though, and that's what they really want, as do Man City, both have thrown buckets of cash at it, and as yet neither have claimed the holy grail.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 9:55 pmPSG will soon come unstuck, Poch isnt destined for success anywhere.

french league title perhaps Tiger, but that's not really important.tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:00 pmWell! you'd expect him to at least win Ligue 1, although just browsing the table that's by no means guaranteed, I can't see them winning the CL though, and that's what they really want, as do Man City, both have thrown buckets of cash at it, and as yet neither have claimed the holy grail.

Re: Today's football
No that alone won't keep him in post I agree, hence why he needs to mastermind a CL triumph, they came close last season, but he's been brought in to ensure they make that final leap, personally I find it hard to see past Bayern again, they have the perfect mix of youth and experience, and crucially know what it takes to win the big games, so they'll be hard to beat in my view.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:07 pmfrench league title perhaps Tiger, but that's not really important.

Re: Today's football
Liverpool nailed on to win. Out of form and losing their title. Klopp under pressure and being criticised. Where behind the scenes there’s been family problems and losing his mother. Unable to make it back home. Football throws up fairytales now and really pleasant stories.

Re: Today's football
Sorry do you mean tonight, or the CL as a whole, because I honestly can't see them going all the way with that makeshift defence, not when they start meeting the true heavyweights, such as Bayern, Juventus & PSG to name but 3.Dyched wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 10:41 pmLiverpool nailed on to win. never can tell with liverpool, they know what it takes to succeed, but that might not be enough this time round.

Many times the best team on paper doesn’t win. The final is in Istanbul too.

Accy 1 up at Doncaster in the closing stages, could be a big 3 points if they see it out.
Edit they won 1-0 they really could be hosting an East Lancs next season couldn't they.

If Burnsley had a decent pitch they be a top team to watch.
Since Brexit there are some really good foreign managers in the Championship, McCarthy and Hughton, etc., Shame there won’t be many more.

Re: Today's football
Sours & United both cruising through in the EL, Sours winning 4-1, United 4-0, and both away from home rendering the 2nd legs a mere formality.
Leicester drawing a blank in Prague, but a decent enough 0-0 result for them.
Arsenal & Rangers KO at 8. Arfield starts for Rangers.

Benfica v Arsenal in Rome, second leg in Athens.
Why couldn’t they play a one game decider?
Leipzig last night don’t get a home leg but L’pool do. Strange.

Re: Today's football
Totally agree and I've been banging this drum for months, why they can't just make all the KO rounds one off games I don't know, and it would also help reduce the fixture congestion so many managers are rightly concerned about, as well as reducing the travelling teams would need to undertake over this period.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 8:19 pmBenfica v Arsenal in Rome, second leg in Athens.

Re: Today's football
Wolves-Leeds just started, a draw or a Leeds win probably best for us, although we do still stand every chance of coming above both these sides by May.
Watford 2 up against Derby in the Champ, they are slowly climbing back into the race for the automatic places. Andre on their bench again.

Win tomorrow and we’re only two points behind the greatest side to ever grace the Premier League.

Re: Today's football
Precisely! compare and contrast to the keeper at the other end, a decent keeper can win you 8-10 points a season I reckon, and often that can be the difference in this league, look at how many vital saves Nick has produced for us to nick 1-0 wins down the years.
Whether Wood is fit or not we can definitely put him under pressure, he was poor at Elland Road, but thanks to a weak ref he got away with his mistakes, the same thing won't happen in the return I'm sure.
Another defeat for Leeds, they must be thankful they piled on the points in the 1st half of the season, because teams are now starting to work out how to combat their unique style, and I really feel they'll do a Sheff Utd next season, and that would be hilarious to witness.
