Re: Lee Grant
Sure I’ve seen Billy Mercer doing it for us.
Re: Lee Grant
He does Dc
Re: Lee Grant
I really thought that nobody else noticed how many goals we conceded from Lee Grant's parrying, he was untouchable on here (claretsmad)
Re: Lee Grant
He was cack in the nets. Parry after parry leading to goal after goal.
Re: Lee Grant
Are these boards property of the clubs? if so are the 4ths etc not handling them as part of the covid restrictions. That's just a thought, it's just my own take on it.

Re: Lee Grant
Our keepers for a number of years were all much of a muchness.
The difference when we actually signed a good one in Heaton was staggering.

Re: Lee Grant
It wasn’t so much the ones he parried for me (of which there were plenty) it was the amount that burst through his wrist. He seemed to get a glove on loads of goals but not keep them out

Re: Lee Grant
Certainly not. I think you're mis-remembering.
Maybe we never saw the best of him but the best spell he ever had was the half season he had under Dyche.

Can never forgive him for a truly pathetic one-handed flap at a Hitzelsperger shot at West Ham in a cup tie I went to. Loved a parry back into the danger area with all his heart.

Re: Lee Grant
Now there's a debate !
Re: Lee Grant
Not really..
Re: Lee Grant
I always remember him spilling a shot at Leeds to gift them all 3 points in the last minute after we’d done so well with 10 men for an hour.
Also, the time he parried a free kick at Reading when Ben Mee had to then stick his head into someone’s boot to save a goal.
Also, a game against Birmingham at home when he parried a weak effort... I could go on, but you get the idea.

No longer. Each club has to have its own board. Micky Phelan often does it for Man U, it's usually Billy Mercer for us.Wokingclaret wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 10:08 pmThought this was the job of the 4th Official, but then Duncan Ferguson was doing it for a Everton sub yesterday

Re: Lee Grant
He'd just won all the player of the year awards when he left, he'd had an exceptional season. We've improved since, undoubtedly with Tom Heaton and Nick Pope but there shouldn't be any debate between Grant and Jensen, Grant was by far the better keeper.

Re: Lee Grant
If your talking consistency then maybe but the back end of the promotion season under Coyle and the first season back in the prem he actually did a great job for us. People forget that as his time with us was littered with inconsistencies, mistakes and transfer requests but I think for that spell of around a year and a half Jensen was better than Grant.

I can only remember Jensen actually having one good season and that was the promotion one under Coyle. The rest of the time he was a comedy of errors, the 2009/10 being the stand out with embarrassing displays away at Ewood and home to Wigan.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 11:22 amIf your talking consistency then maybe but the back end of the promotion season under Coyle and the first season back in the prem he actually did a great job for us. It amazes me he played at the level he did, he couldn't read the game and his frame was far to bulky for the modern game

Re: Lee Grant
The leeds one hurt. I think he did it twice in the last few minutes. Seem to recall we were winning. Might be wrong - it was a good sup that day - Whalley clarets were about 20 strong( including one *******)ksrclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 11:14 amI always remember him spilling a shot at Leeds to gift them all 3 points in the last minute after we’d done so well with 10 men for an hour.

Re: Lee Grant
Goalkeepers really have a long fruitful career if they can stay reasonably fit
Grant is now 38 and made his debut over 20 years ago, and will have been at Utd for 3 years this summer
According to Spotrac he is currently on £30k per week or £1.5m per year
20 years of putting a bit of money into the piggy bank will have accumulated into a decent pension pot
Remember listening to Alan Brazil a few years back on his breakfast show when, in talks with an agent, it was suggested that a Premier League player (on average wages) only needs to be with a club for 5 years to set up a pension that you or I could only dream of

Don’t know whether you mean Lee or Tony. You’re correct either way.

The home game against Wigan did it for me... Even his own players didn't believe he was injured...Top Claret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 11:49 amI can only remember Jensen actually having one good season and that was the promotion one under Coyle. Re: Lee Grant
Of course Lee Grant was a better goalkeeper than Jensen but considering Jensen was 35 and on the decline and Grant was about 28 and was the goalkeeper we spent some of our Premier League money on to replace Jensen I would have been shocked if he wasn't.
If we spend a few million on a right back this summer then i'll be bloody disappointed if the following season he doesn't look that much better than Bardsley and struggles to displace him in the team.
For two years Grant barely looked any better then Jensen and only really looked a good Championship keeper in his final season with us and then he sodded off to get more cash
Compare that to Jensen who was brought in when we were struggling at the bottom of the Championship to replace Marlon Beresford. Jensen was a big improvement and he went on to make 200 appearance in the following 6 season culmination of promotion to the Premier League for which his performances was key.
For where we were and what we could afford Jensen was a brilliant signing and servant for us whilst Grant was one of several poor signings Laws made when he had a decent kitty of money to bolster a decent squad to have a really good go at getting back up to the Premier League

Re: Lee Grant
Its been done to death. But was Grant a better keeper than Jensen? Arguably.
Was he a better signing of better for Burnley? Far from it. As DA points out above. All things considered Jensen was far better, cost less and had way more highs than Grant did.
I don't think Grant was a bad keeper. But what did he do that lives in the memory?
He is much like Danny Coyne. Decent keeper who we had high hopes for but didn't really achieve much here.
Even if the only thing Jensen did was have that good promotion season (which isnt only what he did) he still did more than 90% of our keepers ever did!

I can vaguely remember that game. But other than that nothing to write home about either way.
In terms of impact. He’s not in our top five keepers of the last thirty years.

Re: Lee Grant
Sometimes it's possible just to not like how a goalkeeper keeps goal. I was like that with Grant, it doesn't mean I thought he was rubbish, just not one of my favourites.
Re: Lee Grant
I'd agree to an extent, like I say for the first part of the prem season I thought he was ok and he even won us some points against United and Everton with penalty saves and the promotion season he was excellent, so I'd say he was good for a season and a half. I agree that considering he spent 10 years with us that only a season and a half good patch is not a good record and I know too well that he had a mistake him in. (I remember him coming out and rugby tackling Kevin Doyle I think?)Top Claret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 11:49 amI can only remember Jensen actually having one good season and that was the promotion one under Coyle. I think for the job Jensen did playing in the promotion season and the cup run he should be remembered fondly.
Back to OP, There are lots of moments I will remember Jensen for, many mistakes but amongst them some top saves and great moments (penalty saves, 1-1's) . When I think back to Grant I have hardly any memories.

The Beast was outstanding v Chelsea in the league cup giving us a great night out
I recall Lee giving us nightmare with his attempt at being a solid keeper
Fair play to him 3rd choice at Manure and getting paid for it
