Utd doing us a favour at the moment...........
Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Nice dive by Rashford. Commentators make me sick these days. "Lovely bit of play to draw the foul" Maybe football would be better if they tried to score instead of trying to win penalties all the time.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Thought Newcastle played well. Some genuine pace in the side which they tried to exploit with Man Utd. always wanting to get players forward.
Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Newcastle have some winnable games against West Brom, Brighton and Villa
after facing Wolves. If they can beat Wolves then I think they'll be confident.
If they lose to Wolves then who knows?

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
I honestly don't think losing away at Man U who are going pretty well this season and second in the table, means an awful lot. That game has come at a bad time for Toon as it makes a bad situation appear on the surface a whole lot worse, but they'll get easier fixtures and in Saint-Maxim they have a real handful who could easily make the difference against the mid table and lower half sides. Having him fit will be crucial to them, but I'd be more worried if I'd played Fulham and West Brom at home this week and struggled against both and beaten neither.

Give it a rest as it gets boring.
Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
I do not think that we struggled against Fulham. They fluked a goal but did little else. We had some clear cut chances besides the goal, which we did not create against WBA. Against WBA we struggled big time and were definitely very lucky not to lose.Dark Cloud wrote: βMon Feb 22, 2021 8:51 am........ but I'd be more worried if I'd played Fulham and West Brom at home this week and struggled against both and beaten neither.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Fair enough. I do agree, we weren't that bad against Fulham and had enough decent chances to grab the points and yes their goal was a fluke and yes, I think the only thing that's "united" this message board in forever is that we all know against West Brom we were utterly dreadful. Having said that, the point I was making was Newcastle's away game at Man U was never going to be one they expect to take points and as we sometimes say on here it was a "free hit" where anything is a bonus, so losing it isn't really a benchmark of how things are gong for them. Our games this week weren't free hits, they were games against teams who are down there and struggling and for whatever reason we didn't take the points. That's got to be more worrying, especially when you look at the games coming up.

Agree that a performance against Man United is not the best barometer, and also that Saint-Maximim is a top player that could make the difference. He looked good last night, as did Newcastle first half. Newcastle have easier games coming up that are now critical for them.Dark Cloud wrote: βMon Feb 22, 2021 8:51 amI honestly don't think losing away at Man U who are going pretty well this season and second in the table, means an awful lot. You can't be too harsh on our performances with the injuries we have currently though. We should have beaten Fulham (JRod tap in, Long header) and played quite well. Were well off it against WBA, but still should have nicked a win (JRod tap in, pen). A fully fit BFC win both games imo. Challenge for us now is getting our thin squad back to fitness.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Absolutely agree with all that NewClaret, BUT I've got an eye on our up coming fixtures and the worry is they're very tough! We played well against Spurs at home earlier in the season and got nothing and we're quite capable of getting everybody fit, turning up in the next 4 games, playing far, far better than we did on Saturday and still coming away gallant losers. Not long ago people were saying 32, 33 or maybe 34 points would comfortably be enough this year as the bottom 3 were so poor, but with Fulham's resurgence, that looks unlikely now and we'll need more.NewClaret wrote: βMon Feb 22, 2021 9:32 amAgree that a performance against Man United is not the best barometer, and also that Saint-Maximim is a top player that could make the difference. Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
36 will be enough to stay up this season. If we can't get 8 more points from the remaining games we have (one win and 4 draws?) then as others have said, we'll deserve to go down.
As for Newcastle, from what I saw, they played well, yesterday. Trouble is you can play well and get nowt (albeit against Man U) and you can play abysmally and get something as we did (albeit against the worst defence in the league). As you said, Dark Cloud, we played well against Spurs and got nothing earlier in the season.
It's about picking up the points even if you play rubbish.
I would have though we'll be getting players back from injury soon and I really can't see us playing that badly again this season. We'll be reet.

We could also have got a point v Man Utd but for Pogba's deflected shotGoddy wrote: βMon Feb 22, 2021 10:56 am36 will be enough to stay up this season. If we can't get 8 more points from the remaining games we have (one win and 4 draws?) then as others have said, we'll deserve to go down.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
There will be quite a lot of pressure on Fulham getting something at Palace on Sunday there fixtures become a lot tougher after that.
Spurs (h)
Liverpool (a)
Man City (h)
Leeds (h)
Villa (a)
Wolves (h)
Arsenal (a)
Chelsea (a)
Then we meet, a team that has won 4 games from 25 hard to see them picking up too many points in that time.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
If that is their next set of games after Palace, Fulham will have played 33 games...............with five to go,they'll need a point a game from the eight mentioned to even be in with a chance of staying up.

They are quite capable of drawing games, even against top sides. Rest assured they will put up a fightevensteadiereddie wrote: βMon Feb 22, 2021 2:40 pmIf that is their next set of games after Palace, Fulham will have played 33 games...............with five to go,they'll need a point a game from the eight mentioned to even be in with a chance of staying up.
Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
Not sure Fulham's run of games is particularly tough really. Leeds, Villa, Wolves and Arsenal nothing to fear this season.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
You could say that about most teams tbf though mate. Only City is a guaranteed defeat I'd say.
Fulham will be lucky to get to 30 points in the next 10 games imo

Looks like Wilfrid Zaha misses out against Brighton tonight and Hodgson is unsure when he will return. Given Palace's shocking record of losing games when their talisman is missing, I would be very surprised if Fulham do not come away from Selhurst Park with all 3 points.

Re: Newcastle In Real Trouble?
I agree we'll need more, but we all need to play each other twice and without comparing the fixtures of all the clubs down there for the remainder of the season, you can't really compare chances of survival. Fulham have tough games to come after our tough run ends.Dark Cloud wrote: βMon Feb 22, 2021 9:40 amAbsolutely agree with all that NewClaret, BUT I've got an eye on our up coming fixtures and the worry is they're very tough! Newcastle looked decent last night and lost, we looked awful against WBA and drew. Ultimately, this game week, we pick up a point closer to survival, whilst stopping a rival drawing closer. I'd take our weekend over Newcastle's, even though they played better opposition.

Bit annoying, that. Yes they do look better than us going forward but they leak goals. Burnley have 10 clean sheets to Newcastle 4 and that will be their downfall.Vegas Claret wrote: βMon Feb 22, 2021 12:13 amNewcastle were far more threatening than we were, if Newcastle are in trouble then any more performances like Saturday and we sure as **** are
