Re: Dawson
Hindsight is a wonderful thing (file under Scott Arfield). He was part of a West Brom side that was relegated & a Watford side that was relegated so all the odds were he wasn't a patch on Tarks. it's also interesting how West Ham set up. Much like us the defence has very good cover in front of them.

Re: Dawson
Too late to cry over missing out on Dawson now. If Tarky goes in the summer we're going to have to find someone better than Kevin Long to step in straight away and do a job. We'll definitely struggle to find someone as cheap as Dawson was in the summer. We won't have the luxury of months of bedding in as we did in the past.

Re: Dawson
Not sure hindsight is the right word to describe it since Dyche has wanted him for seemingly as long as he's been here.

Re: Dawson
The time to get Dawson was when he were available for 3.5m and we **** farted about as usual. That ship has long since passed. Need to move on to younger, hungrier players.

A problem with Dyche's squad management is even if we had signed a Tarks replacement last summer they wouldn't have played much football this season because he doesn't change the side unless forced to do so. We arguably have a ready made replacement on the books but unfortunately he hasn't played enough football and wants out, understandably.
Re: Dawson
Always looks a solid enough defender, and no doubt would excel in a defensive set up like ours.
Chips in with a few goals too.
Think he has been on SD radar for about 8 years now, but we never seemed able to go to the dizzy heights of the 750k , 5m or 3.5m fees his signature would cost...
Hopefully now the new guys are here, it wont be the old, injured bargain basket we are shopping in each window, and we can look forward to being able to write a cheque in a transfer window.

Re: Dawson
Was summer 2014, following the first promotion under Dyche, that we tried to sign him. I know someone who knows the player well and I was led to believe it was very close but West Brom decided they weren't going to sell. We signed Michael Keane instead.

Re: Dawson
Good defender plus 15 goals in 5 seasons for WBA and most of those from set pieces, would have been a great signing for us but those kind of numbers were always going to attract deeper pockets.
Dawson & Snodgrass, West Ham always pip us with a better offer. Could still see us getting both, Dyche would squeeze the last drops of football from their bones.

Re: Dawson
That lad at Norwich - Gibson - would've fitted the bill if we'd thought to buy him a couple of years ago; oh...

I thought Les was hilarious when he played the piano badly......apparently he was a very talented pianist.

I think we will eventually sign him at some stage but he’s too young yet.

Re: Dawson
He's only there on loan.
I know the West ham board love dodgy deals, but even that would be a stretch for them

Re: Dawson
If you're desperately wanting a Dawson at centre-half, it seems that Mike Dawson's now surplus to requirements at Forest; though he's perhaps still a bit young to fit our parameters?

Re: Dawson
On loan for now but two more appearances and he gets a permanent deal. All agreed with Watford.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 7:04 pmHe's only there on loan.

Re: Dawson
To be fair, after the last window, when players like this are touted for £3.5m Accy Stanley would pip us to the signing...CombatClaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 09, 2021 2:45 pmGood defender plus 15 goals in 5 seasons for WBA and most of those from set pieces, would have been a great signing for us but those kind of numbers were always going to attract deeper pockets.
