Pope 5 - at fault for the first goal, and mistake at the end was a lucky escape. 2 good saves in between

Tarkowski 7 - Pretty solid
Mee 5 - Mistake for the 2nd
Pieters 8 - Outstanding for the time he was on - dominating the weak Southampton full back.

Gudmundson 7 - worked hard
Westwood 5 - uncharacteristically lethergic, and not in the game at all
Brownhill 5 - wins plenty of the ball, but lacked quality on the ball
McNeill 5 - Not involved, and looked lethargic

Wood 7 - A goal and an assist - good link up play.
Vydra 7 - very good goal, and some decent link up play

Taylor 6 - looked rusty

A surprisingly lethargic performance, with the midfield shape being very open.

Gifted a 2 goal lead but looked way off the pace and very sloppy IMO.
Never really caused them any issues.
I feared we were going to break every time Southampton broke.
The 3 week break looked like it did us anything other than some good, and to think we wimpered out of the cup to create this long gap with no game makes it more frustrating.

A Sours and Villa win makes it as you were, so let's hope they do the business.

Should never have lost that game from 2-0 up but our defensive unit was none existent today apart from a couple of great saves from Pope but he should have saved their 1st goal. Why Mee didn’t boot it into row Z for the 2nd goal I don’t know because he knows he’s never going to win a foot race with Ings. Our midfield were poor today especially Westy who should have been hooked. Only positive was the way the front 2 played together. On to the next game

Pope 5 - mistake for the first goal and more problems with his feet almost cost us another. Did make a couple of decent stops.
Lowton 4 - his worst performance for a while
Tarkowski 5 - never looked comfortable against Ings
Mee 4 - where are the jesters who think he should play for England?
Pieters 9 - terrific in the half hour he had
Gudmundsson 4 - more ineffective trash from this guy
Westwood 4 - forgot he was playing at times

McNeil 4 - see Brownhill
Wood 7 - put himself about well. Looked a threat all afternoon
Vydra 6 - well taken goal but still looks a bit lightweight

Taylor 4 - like the others he came on to join. An uncomfortable afternoon for him.
Richardson 4 - felt he needed another 12 seconds than he got to really be able to make an impact.

Very frustrating to let a 2 goal lead slip against a relegation rival We needed to take a lead into half time. The defence was sloppy after Pieters went off and central midfield just weak after the break. They were far better second half but score could have been 5-3. Back to relying on other teams again

The defence and midfield two were really poor today, more holes than a string vest and picked apart at will. I thought Wood was very good and really should have got Burnley a second pen.

Thank god for BET365 automatic pay out if a team goes 2-0 up. It softened the loss a little let's say

Thought we needed to strengthen midfield early in the second half, where we became over run. JBG seemed to be playing more infield so would have swapped him for Cork, and bought Jay on much earlier

The only real negative was the failure of Mee to take a card and it cost us. Southampton are a match for anyone on a good day and their pace throughout the front six is difficult to handle.

Pope 5 - two good saves but should have done better with their first a bad mistake in the second half and iffy distribution throughout.
Lowton 6 - quiet but not a lot wrong.
Tarkowski 6 - won his fair share in the air and solid enough.
Mee 5 - should have just passed the ball out for a throw in when Ings scored. Changed the course of the game.
Pieters 7 - played very well when he was on.
Gudmunson 5 - a number of times whilst on the right he was too deep when he should have been stretching the opposition and when moved onto the left he got great opportunities to deliver the ball but they were nowhere near the required standard unfortunately.
Westwood 5 - gave the ball away, a lot. When we needed him to calm things down in there he didnt unfortunately.
Brownhill 5 - started very well indeed but faded unfortunately.
McNeil 6 - great ball in for Wood and a vital piece of tracking back in the second half.
Vydra 7 - good movement throughout and a great finish
Wood 6 - a handful throughout but when we were really under the cosh he gave if away unbelievably poorly twice when in good positions. The second of which lead to their third goal.

Taylor 6 - ok.
