Look forward to hearing which Conservative figure they'll get in to present for a week following Campbell.
Cummings would be a fun guest.

Losing interest (and patience) with mainstream tv... as if Morgan wasn't enough, this utter reptile gets a slot. Sadly i have just completed Netflix, so its back to reading for me.

They don't get it do they?
The media is increasingly partisan and polemic when what we are truly crying out for is unbiased and measured journalism for the whole country - not aimed primarily at the metroplitan north London set.
Campbell, Morgan, O'Brien, etc all belond on Talk Radio or the pages of a Sunday paper and yet all of them have been given prominent platforms to spout their politics at us on mainstream TV.

Alastair Campbell's honesty about his own mental health journey, the management of his own depression, and its impact on his family has been very helpful within my family. Will watch with interest and an open mind.

Well you do just that cobble, and I genuinely hope you will find something in it that’s of some use to you, so you keep your open mind, but just don’t forget it’s Alastair Campbell.

The media has lost its ‘monopoly’ due to so many other streams and channels. Particularly social media.Rowls wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:53 pmThey don't get it do they?

So something balanced just doesn’t get attention. So much like politics. Most of us are in the middle. With some left views and some right views. But the extremists get all of the attention and focus.
So the media is constantly now trying to stand out with its polarising views and even more polarising faces of their platforms.

It's a race to the bottom but the mistake they are making is thinking they have to play the same game. They don't.

Re: Alastair Campbell
I would like to add that I find Campbell to be a half decent kinda chap. He's clearly a dedicated and true Claret, his honesty and openness about mental health is striking, even if you don't agree with his personal conclusions.
The key thing about hosting a daytime magazine programme on mainstream TV is that it should have to adhere to the rules on impartiality that supposedly govern all of UK output.
The one thing that is completely tendentious and one-dimensional about Campbell is his complete and utter, evangenical partisanship when it comes to politics. He's a crazed fanatic when it comes his politics.
Sure - have him present in depth features on mental health.
But even the idea that he (and plenty others like the aforementioned Morgan) should even be considered as anchors is an insult to impartiality.

Amazing how, for nearly a dozen years, we've had a rabid, right-wing, populist government of smirking ex-public schoolboys...when you hear what a bunch of left wing agitators are running our primary news source.
Really adds up does that.

Whenever I have watched this, or it's predecessor gmtv, it's just been a mash up of celebrity gossip, soap reviews, an interview with a woman who found a spider in some tesco potatoes and now wants compensation or Piers Morgan shouting about something he was in favour of the week before.
It's like a visual issue of the daily mirror/sun
The morons will lap Campbell up/get unjustifiably irate in equal measure
A sad indictment of modern society

Campbell did an excellent job for his employer whether you agree or disagree with what he was paid to do.
I find him a very good broadcaster and he will be incisive. Let's hope he gets some withering digs in at bstards.

Re: Alastair Campbell
I wonder who actually watches breakfast tv ? Probably layabouts or the brain dead. Most housewives / husbands I know are far too busy. On top of this Reid and Morgan are dreadful imoDamo wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 7:22 amWhenever I have watched this, or it's predecessor gmtv, it's just been a mash up of celebrity gossip, soap reviews, an interview with a woman who found a spider in some tesco potatoes and now wants compensation or Piers Morgan shouting about something he was in favour of the week before.

Re: Alastair Campbell
Reid used to be a serious and professional journalist/presenter. Then she went on “strictly” and fell in love with showbusiness.
As far as Campbell is concerned, people tend to suggest him speaking out about his mental health struggles makes him worthwhile listening to. Fair enough if you are struggling yourself and you find value in it, but I’d be constantly thinking “this is Campbell... what’s his angle?” I can’t help that, I haven’t developed those opinions without there being some basis for it.
If I’d been responsible for advising Tony Blair in the way he did, I think I’d be struggling to deal with it too. He may well be a claret, but that will never excuse him for his past. Some of you think he’s a nice chap, others like him because he speaks well about Burnley, but I’m ashamed he’s a claret.

The only way I'd watch it with Campbell is if Susannah was presenting it with nothing on. Otherwise, I'm out.

I think some of the retired fans on here probably watch it Boss, I'm just lucky I have work to go to! For me, Morgan is a true anchor with a capital W

He’s made a living out of his mental health, last time I heard he was saying he’d “ been an alcoholic “ like he’d “ been in the Boy Scouts “ or “ been to Spain “ No feelings toward him either way tbh

Re: Alastair Campbell
His general demeanour (most of the time) and his ability to present well on tv isn't under question. He is a highly competent and intelligent man.
But he is as partisan about the Labour Party as he is about Burnley FC.
Therefore, he really should not be given the platform of daytime tv to air his views.

He was making a rhetorical point wanting better leadership for his beloved Labour Party.
The election result proved him correct.
