Morecambe v Newport
Final game of the season today at 3pm for the League Two Play Off Final before the "it's not coming home" tournament begins, personally hoping for a Morecambe win, could anyone have imagined 20 years ago that Morecambe and Accrington Stanley would be in League One with Charlton, Sunderland, Bolton, Sheff Wed, Portsmouth & Ipswich.

Got a soft spot for Morecambe as my dad was brought up there and use to work on the turnstiles at Christie Park so I’m hoping for a Shrimps winclaretburns wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 1:02 pmFinal game of the season today at 3pm for the League Two Play Off Final before the "it's not coming home" tournament begins, personally hoping for a Morecambe win, could anyone have imagined 20 years ago that Morecambe and Accrington Stanley would be in League One with Charlton, Sunderland, Bolton, Sheff Wed, Portsmouth & Ipswich.

Com'on Morecombe! I had my annual once a year bet on the playoffs, its the only time I ever gamble. I did a £10 accumulator on Brentford, Blackpool and Morecombe... If Morecombe win in the 90 mins I get £145 back. Com'on you Shrimps!!!

Why would anyone born in Lancashire not want Morecambe to go up a division.?

They have Ryan Cooney, right back I believe, who has played 36 times for them this season either starting or sub.

Re: Morecambe v Newport
The omens are promising for Morecambe both the highest placed teams so far have won their respective finals, so hopefully they can make it a hat trick. And round off a perfect bank holiday weekend for Lancashire, a Roses victory plus promotions for Blackpool and Morecambe would be ideal to round off the season.

Morecambe have placed a shirt and photo of Christian Mbulu on their bench. He died last year at 23 years old whilst a Morecambe player, lovely touch from them.

Re: Morecambe v Newport
Heavy challenge on Cooney there that goes unpunished, mind you it is a play-off final I suppose, and it's good to see the refs trying to let the games flow during this weekend.

Well at least he's consistent then. Though how neither he or his assistant saw the penalty incident only they will know.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 3:49 pmMore a case of Bobby Madley missing everything this afternoon
Goalless at the break and this looks like being a tight one, 1st goal could be the winner on what's gone thus far.

Re: Morecambe v Newport
Heck of a long throw from the Newport player. Can you score direct from a throw in or does the ball have to touch another player?

You can't score direct from a throw - would be a goal kick if that happenedConroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 3:53 pmHeck of a long throw from the Newport player. Can you score direct from a throw in or does the ball have to touch another player?

Re: Morecambe v Newport
Seemingly not according to Law 15 on the FA website which states the following.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Mon May 31, 2021 3:53 pmHeck of a long throw from the Newport player. Can you score direct from a throw in or does the ball have to touch another player?
A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in:
if the ball enters the opponents’ goal – a goal kick is awarded
if the ball enters the thrower’s goal – a corner kick is awarded
Although with the display of Bobby Madley today he'd probably award the goal.
The long throw is a major weapon in Newport's armoury and I remember them using it to great effect during their various cup runs over recent years, everybody knows it's coming, but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with, it might not be for the purists but if it's effective then absolutely why not use it to your advantage.

Re: Morecambe v Newport
Can we just go straight to the pens once the 90 minutes is up.
Cooney with Morecambe's 1st effort on target, but a comfortable take for the keeper.

Re: Morecambe v Newport
Didn't he taunt Derek Adams after scoring against Morecambe earlier this season ?
He could either score the winner, or miss the deciding penalty in a shoot-out .... the sporting Gods have a funny way of making you look foolish !
NB: I hope this is Lee Hendrie's last game as a summariser .... shockingly bad !
