Yep let put it into perspective along with France '82, Holland '96, Germany '01 and Argentina '02 this is probably one of the top 5 England performances of the last half a century

Been a big critic of Southgate but he seems to have got Pickford to grow up. Very professional performance all round, it was close as expected and swung on a couple of chances. So credit to Southgate, but bigger challenges ahead, they were not a German team that will live in the memory.

I know we do brilliantly but Southgates results since becoming England the manager have been great too. Also the way he handles himself and the team spirit and professionalism he has created is everything we rightly praise Dyche for but again you and others pick holes in it with Southgate.
You raise a great point about people wanting it both ways but the truth is it is you and all the other Southgate haters who are the perpetrators of this behaviour

The majority of the games he’s been in charge of have been so underwhelming. This is the best group of players I’ve seen in an England squad he should be reaching semi-finals and beating a very poor German side.

I think people pick holes because Southgate can be overly and unnecessarily negative in games that don't require it. Today was understandable, against Scotland it wasn't. I've never heard anyone criticize the way Southgate handles himself ever, he comes across as a thoroughly decent bloke.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:08 pmI know we do brilliantly but Southgates results since becoming England the manager have been great too. We all want England to do well but as footy fans we debate the rights and wrongs of tactics, what is a real shame is people don't understand the difference between an argument and a debate and then start pathetic threads like this
Re: Today's Games
Defensively Ukraine are weaker but are probably more of a threat than Sweden. The Swedes are always solid. I'd plump for Ukraine and get it out wide early. The Dutch made hay using the flanks against Ukraine. We should be way too strong for either though.

Sometimes it takes something like that. I’m convinced we’d have lost that day at Ewood had we gone 2-0 down. Who knows what would have happened had the Germans equalised so quickly today.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 7:45 pmThat miss from Muller was very reminiscent of Jordan Rhodes' at Ewood. The best group of England players you have ever seen? Are you 5 years old? better group than the Gerrard Scholes Carrick Lampard Cole J Cole Rooney Beckham Rio Terry lot? not a chance. It's a better group because of the group Southgate has created, sadly people wont want to admit that. We have Leeds United and West Ham in a midfield 2

Southgate isn't shy on making difficult decisions. I'll give him that. As he said tonight. You sometimes play the team you're against. He's not afraid to make unusual/unpopular decisions like leaving out Grealish.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:21 pmThe best group of England players you have ever seen? We had a plethora of talent back then but the question was always asked. Who do you play? Southgate was quite happy dropping all three of our most creative talents because it fit the team we were against.
I tell you what. I can't wait for that handbrake being taken off and unleashing our talent!
Southgate has got it bob on for me so far.

1-0 Ukraine, well worked goal, and a good finish, but the keeper could possibly have done better.
However Ukraine have never kept a clean sheet at the Euro's so don't write Sweden off just yet.

Good game this, 1-1 at the break, and it's hard to pick a winner. From England's POV ET wouldn't do us any harm would it.

Re: Today's Games
TBH if England play anything like we can we should be able to beat either of these, but I'm taking nowt for granted given how unpredictable this last few days have been, and whoever we face we'll need to be on our mettle to progress as both have shown quality at various points of this comp.
Re: Today's Games
Not overly worried who we face tbh. Strange things happening in this tournament though. I've already predicted a Sweden win in this one with the wife though. Ahhh it's nice to have a footy mad partner finally.
Re: SOUTHGATE OUT!
That's the thing I like about this England group and Southgate, it's refreshing to see him pick a TEAM and not shoe horning players in based on individual ability like all previous managers, Gerrard and Lampard didn't fit together, Southgate wouldn't have picked them together. I don't know why people are screaming for individuals to start based on their name and how they perform at club level.BenWickes wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:28 pmSouthgate isn't shy on making difficult decisions. Do those people whining and criticising not remember Scholes at left midfield? and constant failure with Lampard and Gerrard? they are whining for something that has proven doesn't work.

The WC I agree with you on, especially given the next one is taking place in Qatar, however GS and England now have a golden opportunity to lift the Euro's, get through the quarter-final, which all things being equal we should, then we'll be in the last 4 and be playing at Wembley, so I honestly can't see a better chance to win a major trophy for England then this one.

Sweden enjoying the better of the 2nd half, and that Forsberg looks a player, get him signed Sean.

Re: Today's Games
As a club before country girl I don’t get over excited about England. That said, the scenes of celebrations immediately after the goals was a joy to see.
I’ve missed crowd interaction more than anything else in every game I’ve watched, and that sudden release of raw emotion, particularly after the Sterling goal was enough to re-ignite passion for our national team. Oddly, the delirium brought back memories of our 2-2 draw at Walsall in 91/92! ?. Lol
Superb. Roll on Saturday!

yeah but KRBFC seems to think that the current England team is all down to Southgate and that tactically he is masterful (time will tell) - so if he's that good we should surely be challenging to win the World Cup given the investment levels the FA have made over the last few decades ?!!!!!tiger76 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 29, 2021 9:35 pmThe WC I agree with you on, especially given the next one is taking place in Qatar, however GS and England now have a golden opportunity to lift the Euro's, get through the quarter-final, which all things being equal we should, then we'll be in the last 4 and be playing at Wembley, so I honestly can't see a better chance to win a major trophy for England then this one.
