Best place pre game

Post by ayrshireclaret83 » Tue Aug 10, 2021 6:06 pm

Normally when I travel from Scotland down I drive so i am straight to the game and then home.

But now I am coming by train I was looking for some advice on best places to grab a pint and maybe a bite to eat pre game.

Last time I came on the train I went to the Brun Lea but that appears to be closed so just looking for ideas

The Brunlea is now Fitzpatrick's.

Not eaten there myself but some friends have and said it was excellent although service a bit slow.

The Bridge Bierhuis is a favorite with a few on here.

If you just want quick and easy the Wetherspoons across from McDonald's is still there.

With all respects if it’s like the past in the Bier House social distancing will be pretty impossible.

New Brew-m for real ale

Belissimo a nice little italian cafe or continentals are nice local places to eat that serve good food and reasonably priced.

Depends what you want really. I like the Dyche although it can be a little boisterous for some

The Bridge is great any other day but on a match day its too busy for me

We went in to the Turf before the the match on Saturday, and what a surprise, they have done a great job modernising it.

Cheers pal, it’s not finished mainly the Beer Garden due to us on with another property but I’m glad you had a great time. We have invested into the Football Club with Advertising so hopefully it might go into a players wages for half a day 🤣

Agreed. The turnstile doors on the wall are a cracking and unique feature.

For decent beer and quick food you can't go wrong with Spoons. Great pub crawl now under the Culvert, looking forward to checking out the new look Turf for a beer.

I don’t think there are many Really rough pubs left near the centre now. Most have been refitted to a decent standard just full of working people in a working town. Depends what you want out of a pub tbh

I have to say, just before lockdown, The Vintage Claret was good but I may give the Turf a look now, too.

I think if you are concerned about social distancing then a pre match pint in any of the nearby pubs wouldn't be advisable. Not a dig at anyone or any pub but they will be busy so it's your call whether you attend or not.

Anyway, wherever we all go let's enjoy being back on the Turf with all our fellow Clarets. Let's get behind our team to beat the, "ever so pretty" Brighton!

I can't frickin' wait :)

Think we are going to give ‘The Circ’ a go on Saturday after the demise of our usual Talbot. Just up from the Bridge and Loommakers on Bank Parade.

Wetherspoons sells some good beers but the quality is poor. Without exception every branch pull cask beers in one or two draughts. No head, no taste and flat in 5 minutes. But its cheap so that's all that matters to some. Being honest, I can't speak for the keg beers or lager. I'm not sure they can spoil them.

Agree about spoons. Son works at a busy one in SW London. They buy cask ales close to expiry dates at cheap prices and shift them quickly. Quality not an issue.

Tends to be where the away fans go. Still plenty of Burnley fans in though. As long as it's dry it's a decent spot.

From last Saturday;
Boot fairly full, no seats available with plenty of BFC in. Food delivery time = ping quick.

Prinny/Dyche relatively quiet when we arrived close to KO. Like what Justine has done with the beer garden, leather seats from the chairman's box out back, added a balcony with more seating and a few more claret touches.

Park View after the game, think it'll get packed on league games. Hopefully they'll serve outside again if possible. Had a large number of people serving which was good. Absolutely loads of screens for football.

Turf had a few in, not mobbed when we arrived, nice facelift and beer garden starting to look better.

Going to try Coaching Horses next time I'm out, new/old owners. Then get back into the rest of the match day circuit. There's also a 'secret bar' in the vape shop on Keirby Walk for those who haven't been in town for a while.

Do any of the Park View, Turf, Dyche, Vintage do real ale? (Genuine question as not been drinking around that area for about 18 months!)

Not sure as I’ve never been in. They do have a Facebook page which will give you an idea. Seems to be lots of craft and real ales which aren’t my cup of tea but favour a number in our group of friends.

Thanks, quite partial to a real ale. (Not craft though, that's like my 2010 vintage homebrew) Will give it a go.

I personally like the “Vols” or the Rifle Volunteer as a nice quiet pre or after match pub, don’t think they do food but I might be wrong there, there’s a TV in the side bar but only a free view one.
