Hungary v England thread

Post by PadihamThickNeck » Thu Sep 02, 2021 5:39 pm

First game back tonight after the heartbreak in the final.

ITV. 7.45pm

Won’t be an easy game the Hungarians put up a fight in the Euros and managed to draw with France and Germany but I still fancy us to get the job done, I’ll take a 1-0.

Wonder how many people aren’t interested in this but ‘pretended’ to be England biggest fans in the Euros

COME ON ENGLAND !!

I'd bite your hand off for a 1-0, this will be a tricky assignment especially away from home. As well the trip to Poland next week, this these away fixtures will determine how easy the rest of the group will be or not for England.

And following our heroics in the Euro's, England are now seen as a major scalp for most nations, so they'll probably raise their game when we roll into town.

Looks as though Pope has returned as third choice keeper given Johnstone has been given number 13

Fears there is going to be racist abuse from the stands, hopefully Southgate takes us off if that happens and we refuse to continue.

We will find out when we take the knee.

It looks like Hungary’s crackpot President has picked himself at centre back.

England XI: Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw, Phillips, Rice, Mount, Grealish, Sterling, Kane.

Grealish for Tripps is the only change from the EC final, funny isn't it JG moves to Man City and suddenly he's deemed good enough to start for England.

Bamford, Pope & Trippier all on the bench.

Why would you expect Easter Europeans to react badly to the England players taking the knee?

Can't say I agree with the "taking of the knee" but I don't agree with the booing of it ... better to "ignore it" than "boo it"

Anyway about the match if I may, steady start by England, and as expected we're dominating possession, but not many clear cut chances as yet, patience will be the key word tonight, as other nations found in the Euro's Hungary are a tough nut to crack, and even more so on home soil.

We desperately lack a creative central midfielder in the Scholes/Gerrard mould who can switch the play with a 40 yard pass, Phillips and Rice are just side to side as are Stones and Maguire. The build up is way to slow gives them time to reset and get in position, a 40 yard switch and they are out of position and your in.

I don't agree with the knee and won't boo but when some idiot footballer raises his fist I then feel like booing.

Not really he's gone 4-4-2 and Foden is out so its just a straight choice between Saka and Grealish.

Yes even in the Euro's where England performed really well, there was a distinct lack of flair, Foden will hopefully remedy this when he's fit, and there's also James Maddison who could add a more attacking threat,

Honestly they kneel down for like a second to say 'would you please stop comparing folk to animals and being nasty $hits and whatnot' and you're put off by the game? You've been radicalised mate. There are about fifty reasons at least not to watch this match, the actual football being played here being first among them.

It's not been a great watch I agree, but a point away to Hungary wouldn't be a bad point at all.

And they've made it as difficult as many suspected they would, whilst creating little in response.

Neither keeper has had a save of note to make. So it can surely only get better 2nd half can't it.

Yep best chance of the game, no matter Sterling has just put England ahead, and 2nd half the tempo has been much quicker from England.

Bookings for Rice & Sterling, so both walking a tightrope now.

1-0 Sterling, who reveals a message on his under shirt and is then pelted by with cups and bottles whilst the whole stadium boos.
