Precisely! and if Christie is so good how come no other PL teams were interested in signing him, especially considering the modest fee, he ended up at Bournemouth, which tells you a lot.
I read that Southampton & Palace were also interested. Here’s Christie’s words so suggests it was a mixture of style/speaking to Parker/some historic link. I reckon he just didn’t believe in himself to play in the Prem or Bournemouth were so desperate to get it over the line that they agreed to some silly clauses we wouldn’t.
“Throughout my whole career I’ve always wanted to try my hand down in England and I’m really excited to join a team who’s going for promotion, going out to win games and achieve success," he said.
"I’m used to that at Celtic so hopefully I can help bring that to Bournemouth.
“The attraction was a bit of everything. It sounds a bit crazy but I’ve actually had an affection for Bournemouth for years now.
"Believe it not Bournemouth put a bid in for me back in my Inverness days as a really young player. You could say I’ve looked out for the club for a good few years now.
“As soon as I heard the club were an option, I managed to speak to Scott Parker and with the way he spoke, he’s a big encouragement in terms of the brand of football and the way his teams play.
“From watching what he did with Fulham and then seeing him come to Bournemouth I think I’m taking a big step in the right direction.
“The whole feeling of it was right and even though I did have a couple of other options this was the one that I was just desperate to get over the line."

It does beg the question though what happens if Bournemouth win promotion to the PL, there's often many reasons why players choose a certain club, and contrary to popular belief it's not always about the money.
I'll follow his Bournemouth career with interest that's for sure, but if he wasn't totally committed to Burnley then I'm glad we didn't sign him, we only want guys who buy into our methods.
I will also add it's an awful lot easier to play attractive football in the Championship, and many managers and teams have found it a harsh lesson when they attempt the same methods in the PL, as Norwich & Fulham have aptly demonstrated recently.

If we just forget it's Burnley:
He may have seen it as a promotion challenge likely to result in PL next season v a relegation battle.

It's quite humorous to think that 2.5m would be spent without some sort of reassurances on current health.
What did we spend on Defour?

Don't know if anyone saw The One Show yesterday evening, but they had a feature on a bloke in South Wales who had set up a football boot exchange programme. I think the premise behind it is when a child grows out of football boots, they donate them to the programme who then distribute to children who want to play football but are struggling to pay for boots. Michael Sheen arrived on a motorcycle disguised as a courier delivery chap and made the bloke open the package. It was a Golden Boot in recognition of the work he had done, at which point Sheen remove his crash helmet to reveal his identity. They then introduced Swansea and Wales footballer Connor Roberts to say a few words as this guy was a Swansea season ticket holder.
Seems we have signed a good sort, in keeping with the Dyche way.

Really? Given that we already have four senior strikers, it would amaze me.
Because none of our current forward line have any blistering pace. Lots of Lyon supporters on Twitter were suggesting he is a good option up front.

Whereas if we now target that position for January, we may end up with a 10 that is a level above what we have/could convert.
Hopefully won’t be targeting much in Jan. Not the window to be doing much if any business.

I've been banging the drum for years that fullbacks are crucial to the way Sean Dyche sets us up. Mainly from an attacking point of view.
Say it quietly, we may have found our Trippier replacement.
Yep - totally agree… A great signing

Anyway, it hardly matters what you or I think. Time will tell and Sean will decide.

It is possible to get the odd very good deal with players contracts out in the summer, but yes - the average deal must be a lot more costly than in summer. Let’s hope we don’t need to sign anyone then.

I agree with that, perhaps the main caveats being that we’re still playing catch up from previous windows and look to have a big job in the summer.
The odd signing in January, if it’s not silly money of course, might help us out a bit come the summer window.

It strikes me that there are likely to be more League Clubs than usual who having by then conceded that they're not in the promotion races will be looking to cash in on one or two of their better players?

SD is very loyal, but the minute Lowts is injured or misses a game he will get his chance. Then he will probably take some moving and make it his position. Of course he might also play RM
Another option could be
Collins Tarks Mee
Roberts Westwood McNeil Brownhill Taylor
Wood Cornet
That would be some team
Yep, that's what I had in mind on the other thread, with vyds to come in off the bench.

Pwehaps but nowadays so many clubs stay in contention for the play-offs deep into the season.

I gave three key examples where three January signings made instant impacts for us. Fox, Barton and Brady all scoring debut free kicks after signing in January. But for some reason Tony deleted it. Wonder why!?

Cornet was playing up top at the start. Mostly left wing though. Brownhill, Cornet and McNeil swap around.

It still doesn't mean he's playing as a striker, because he isn't!
The problems down their right are largely coming from him not tracking back.

See my post above.
Perhaps he should if he's the kind of wide player who doesn't track back.

Surprised Dyche didn’t recognise Cornet was struggling to track Livramento and get him to swap wings with Dwight.

Dyche has gone to 4-4-2 with McNeil left and Brownhill right. Not sure who that player upfront with Wood is as surely Dyche wouldnt play Cornet as striker would he?

The main reason is because he isn’t back to the required fitness level.

Every player interview I have seen state the step
UP ton international level is a big step from club football, so I think Connor has more than proved his fitness with the 2 games he put in recently, so i can only presume Dyche doesn't think he offers anything better than what he currently has in the squad. I struggle to understand this when we have Lennon and Bardo on the bench for his positions and the age that they are at, preferred over Roberts, let alon the pace of Lowton is a concern, but that just my opinion

He’s coming back from injury and there’s no obvious place for him in the side. Would be an good option from the bench though

Dyche has said that he wants Roberts to have a couple of friendlies to get him up to match speed and to develop his understanding of the way that we play. He wouldn’t have signed Roberts if he didn’t think that he offers better than what we’ve got.

I understand that but yet he believes in Cornet who doesn't get our "framework" either

Cornet wasn’t injured when he signed for us. And he plays in a position where we are crying out for somebody, whereas Roberts doesn’t. Lowton got an assist today.

I do get your point, but we need to disagree on this one mate. Roberts is fit enough and to play well in international matched that are a step above club matches. We are crying out for a winger, right hand side preferably, but Cornet wont/cant track back so he is nether. We all know that Lowton has a lack of pace that has cost us, but going forward he is good, however Roberts has a far superior crossing and thro win ability, but more importantly he is younger and quicker.

It still doesn't mean he's playing as a striker, because he isn't!
The problems down their right are largely coming from him not tracking back.
He was quite clearly playing central in the 2nd half with Mcneil on the left and Brownhill on the right. You'd genuinely argue black is white though so I'm not surprised

If you bother to note the time, you'll notice I made the post about about him not tracking back based on his first half performance. Yes he was moved more centrally in the second half, before being moved wide again later in the game. However, don't let the facts get in the way.
