Re: RATE THE REF - Kevin Friend v Norwich City
Absolute shite
6 stonewall penalties denied us and a blatant stamp on Josh was a straight red
How the trip on Charlie as he ran past the full back was not a penalty was outrageous and Friend even booked the guy for the foul but it wasn't given as a penalty
Was VAR turned off today there were dozens of bad decisions by Friend worthy of a revue

Never do the ratings on here partly because of thinking that refs have a thankless task.
Friend really is a poor ref though.

Re: RATE THE REF - Kevin Friend v Norwich City
He was about as bad as it is possible to be in the first half.
We really should have had 2 or 3 penalties in the first half.
The first (the punch) doesn't need discussing except for whether it warrants a red card or a very lenient yellow.
The trip got missed by the referee AND the linesman? How? Why? Some might claim say it is outside the box but he is clipped at least twice and the second is on the line or in the box which means this is another stonewall penalty.
As for the third (not sure I've got them in the correct order) when Hanley bundles over Vydra it's clear what has happened here. These are the kind of clear free kicks that cowardly official do not hesitate to give in the middle of the pitch. That the referee missed the easy-to-award corner (if he thought it wasn't a penalty) shows how muddled he was here. He's got into a flap because he knows it should be a penalty but he doesn't have the courage to give the correct decision and we don't even end up with getting the corner.
Don't think the one where Charlie Taylor flops to the floor is a penalty but I think the three penalties against Vydra in 1st half are all easy decisions.
How a player can be literally punched in the head and for it to go unpenalized is a disgrace. Truly, a disgrace.
Can't wait until VAR gets turned on to cut out blatant errors like this.

Re: RATE THE REF - Kevin Friend v Norwich City
That was quite frankly appalling officiating.
Can I forgive Friend for not seeing Vydra get punched in the face whilst 6 feet in the air? If that was his only error then maybe I could. But how in this world can somebody reviewing it on a TV monitor look at that and not award a penalty, not to mention a red card.
The trip on Vydra was about as clear as it gets, yet again this was inexcusably waved away. I was actually very confident in both cases that the VAR would give the decision, but it’s impossible for me to have any faith at all in the system when such clear and obvious refereeing errors are not overturned.
I think Taylor dived in the second half, although was tripped outside the box, so that was the correct decision as was the challenge on Vydra by Hanley.
He totally lost the plot in the first half and that is one of the reasons for the ridiculous number of yellow cards that were shown in what was a relatively mild mannered game.

Wasn't at the match today. It's not like the camera angles didn't capture these fouls with crystal clear footage. To have somebody rubber stamping these errors is beyond words right now for me.

Re: RATE THE REF - Kevin Friend v Norwich City
Utterly ridiculous. All that time wasting, not to mention five subs in the second half, and it comes to just two minutes stoppage time. I’m sure he just wanted to get it over with, his body language suggested as much throughout the last 10 minutes. Probably because of all the totally justified stick he was getting for his atrocious refereeing.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:20 pm2

I’ve just watched the highlights and it appears that the Vydra trip was outside the box - so I may have to retract my opinion on that one. Although it was still criminal to not award the FK.

For what it's worth I didn't think that was a pen and he booked the Norwich player for remonstrating over Taylor diving.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 5:56 pmAbsolute shite

He had a terrible game but the worst of all his bad decisions was only playing 2 mins extra at the end. That just rubbed salt in the already open wounds

It's not a 'clean' trip: It continues into the box or at very least on the line so I do not see why it shouldn't be given as a penalty.

Not so much remonstrating as waving an imaginary card which is an automatic booking. One of the very few things he got right today.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 6:28 pmFor what it's worth I didn't think that was a pen and he booked the Norwich player for remonstrating over Taylor diving.

How can he possibly score more than a 0 for control and authority when he allowed Tim Krul to dictate the length of the game.

With friends like that, who needs enemies?
ICBA marking his performance.
Probably the worst refereeing performance I've seen in the Premier League.

He likes himself though doesn’t he. Look at me, Look at me. He needs to sit down and watch Mike Dean referee a game, he might learn something.

This was the worst refereeing performance i have seen in 64 years of watching Burnley games and thousands of other games. A referee who cannot even time a game is no good. The record of 3 fouls given against Norwich in 96 minutes is totally laughable and incomprehensible. Seriously, was this referee bribed/leant on and if so by whom ?

Re: RATE THE REF - Kevin Friend v Norwich City
Looking forward to Ashington coming and defending that performance..... Book the goalie for time wasting after you've told him 3 times... He won't do it again.... Misses a definite pen, but what are VAR doing?.... When was the last time there was only 2 mins extra time in the 2nd half of any Premier league game?

B'tard through and through.
The loudest, "You're not fit to referee" I have heard.
I would happily have thumped him.
Cheating b'tard.
No mark gets no marks.

All the Benalmádena Clarets before the game said he would give us nothing at all. He seemed to get worse as the game went on, awful. However, I can’t blame him for our poor performance against a very poor team.

Not quite true as we made a sub at the same time as Norwich, and did they also make a double sub? Either way, 2 minutes was a joke considering the constant time wasting which Friend acknowledged.
