There was something about Del… Runaway was a massive favourite of mine aged around 10/11, and I loved Flirt too. There were loads around that period I was hooked on - here comes summer (Jerry Keller), poetry in motion (Johnny Tillotson) and Johnny remember me (John Leyton). There was also a certain I Count The Tears, by the Drifters, which I still have, and class it as the first record I owned ( I didn’t have any of the above)

I spoke to a chap a couple of months ago who'd bought it at the same time and his copy also jumped in exactly the same place - a pressing fault no doubt.

Think the first was Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson 1957.I also remember A Pub With No Beer by Slim Dusty 1957 and may still have it somewhere.I had an EP by Cliff and the Drifters including the song Donna and still have that.

Very swiftly.
Alvin rang me up, before my first show in Royal Albert Hall. I thought it was a wind up, from work colleagues...but it wasn't!

Anyway, still short, he wanted tickets (I charged him). He told me that he was used to being phoned up and asked to attend functions, as a via, where they send a limo and feed him and Mrs first! I just laughed!

Next, he asked to be 'smuggled' into the venue, as he didn't want to be recognised at the main entrance!

I rang RAH and they laughed too!
Nonetheless, I sorted passes via the performer entrance.

Turned out he wanted to bring his picnic and booze for a party in his box!

In the end, he went through the main entrance!

Came to all my RAH shows and his guitarist became one of my actor/singers. He was from Port Glasgow.

Sadly, Alvin no longer with us.

Had both those. I heard 'Just A Notion' today from the new Abba album. I thought they were going to go into What Do You Want To Make Those Eyes At Me For with the intro.

There was something really rewarding about flicking through LPs and singles then getting them home,cleaning the stylus or needle and playing the record not quite the same now downloading and although the music is crisper albums vinyl had that lovely mellow sound.

First record bought was Maria by PJ Proby, probably bought from The Disc on Deardengate, Haslingden.

Like others above, I had a brother a few years older than me and I have vivid memories of him playing records, in particular Oh Boy by Buddy Holly, Singing the Blues by Tommy Steel and Story of My Life by Michael Holliday. Not heard the last two for ages but I still find myself singing them.

Great thread this and not ruined by the usual idiots.

Talentless musically, although I have written 3 songs for my shows, so I am a registered songwriter with the PRS!
That eas so I could claim back some of the royalties I had to pay for my shows, to the venues!

My daughter is a musician.

I created, staged and promoted my shows in some of the nations posh (and not so posh) venues. The very first was Royal Albert Hall. Downhill from there!

Great band bud. They were also the first band I ever saw live - Free Trade Hall circa 1970 (give or take). John Fogerty had a voice that could take paint off walls at thirty paces.

I saw him at Manchester Vic about 6 years ago. He did most of the old Creedence stuff and his voice was still as good.
