I see someone suggested a 2hr delay for kick off, so 4pm.
Game finishing close to 6pm.
Anyone who's traveling by train from London most likely wouldn't get home tonight, what would we expect them to do?
Hope to get a hotel somewhere?
The idea it would be easy to delay a game by an hour or two is laughable, it's impossible if the police say no for starters.

It's perfectly easy to delay a kick off and the police had nothing to do with this decision.

Snow go. Good one CT

I was in Towneley at 1pm and it was coming down like golf balls. I could understand the decision at the time but it’s looking a bad one now.
It was what I call proper snow. Big snow flakes, not that wishy washy sleety stuff.

I agree with Rowls, I said the same thing on Twitter before the game was called off, delay for an hour, kick off at 3, appalling decision.

I’d imagine playing the game, even if it was delayed would be easier than rearranging it for both clubs and the Premier League

We can only predict the future with a certain degree of certainty. I'm sure the sun will rise tomorrow but there's always the chance it won't. Other things are less certain, but the weather forecast was near perfect in its accuracy.

What we can always do though is wait for a little bit more time when appropriate.

If the ref had waited 30 minutes or so the match could -and should- have been clear to go ahead. He could have set himself a deadline.

If he'd done any of these things and the match still couldn't go ahead then at least he would have tried to do the right thing by the supporters. He failed to do this and it's clear now that he made a mistake in not doing so.

The supporters were not considered. Many are now out of pocket and have wasted their day.

Your lack of sympathy and empathy here comes across as rather callous to be honest Lancaster.
As I was affected in exactly the same way as everybody else, I'm struggling with the idea that me just shrugging my shoulders as I turned the car around is "callous"

Its just one of those things that happens when the weather is bad, and as has already been said by numerous posters (and ignored by you, which is why I went all in) its not as simple as that

But crack on mate, its more entertaining than Brentford v Everton is

It was the wrong decision and that is as clear as the sky was at 3pm.

I'm not aware of any points that I've missed but feel free to enlighten me.
You've come across like a little child on this thread. There's been plenty of reasonable points on both sides (including some of yours) but if you're not open to an adult discussion then you will miss the points that others make.

Calling people cowardly over and over again for a decision to call off a football match pretty much sums up your whole attitude to this thread and its a bit embarrassing

Cowardly is exactly how I see it. The referee panicked and was more concerned about being found in some way cuplable for potential injuries than he was in considering whether the surface would be playable if he waited a few minutes.

I am angry and I make no bones about it. A lot of people are out of pocket and have had their day wasted because of a rushed decision that proved to be as hasty as it was wrong.

Some people want to call me names and try and goad me based on nothing more than they have different political opinions to me. I'll live with it.

Well yes thanks, it probably it a part of how annoyed I am that I have nothing to do today and am stuck in a tiny indoor space.

But that doesn't change the fact that the decision was wrong. And it isn't going to refund all the wasted money that supporters have forked out to watch a game that could easily have gone ahead.

I imagine that you I think the ref just stuck his head out the tunnel and made his decision with in a few minutes. The match officials with the Premier League and club officials were out on the pitch for a good hour and had the same information as you Rowls

City game was horrific, second half delayed 10 MINUTES while they cleared the snow, we could have delayed and kicked off at 3.

Sean Dyche being diplomatic as ever but the truth is that if this was a "joint decision" then the referee has abnegated his responsibility. It is the referee's responsibility and his alone.

It was the wrong decision. It's left many people out of pocket and wasted their day.

Here's a question.

Rowls, did you actually try and attend the game today?

If you did, it might at least partly explain why you're getting so hot under the collar.

I was actually in the ground when it was announced and I don't seem to be as irate as you!

No. I'm irate at the decision and at the lack of thought for other people.

It's left me bored with nothing more to do but I haven't lost out financially. It is possible to be annoyed without suffering personal monetary loss.

Not many people will argue it was the correct decision. It clearly wasn't. Some might try and explain why the decision was made at the time but there's no excuse for the referee not waiting. He rushed and he panicked.

Take the Man City game for example - did they call it off at half time? No, they cleared the pitched and delayed it by a few minutes.

A 30 minute delay would have been enough to get our game on today. It was a poor, poor decision.

That Leicester game (which wasn’t in the direct “firing line” of the snow clouds) shows why undersoil heating is of limited use. No blame to BFC on this one.

It was bad luck pure and simple, or good luck, depends who wins the rearranged fixture.

Good luck for me, I chose yesterday then again today not to come due to the weather, I’d have had to do a 40 mile detour arriving back in freezing conditions on the side roads near home. I do feel though the game should go ahead with a delay, the PL Handbook seems to put the decision squarely with the referee with delay an option:

“if the referee considers the pitch to be unfit or that adverse weather conditions preclude the playing of the Match, instruct that the Match be postponed or that the kick-off be delayed”

So a study of the forecast would have shown a short delay of an hour would probably have been fine. My app was suggesting 2-30 to 3-00 for it stopping but probably slowing down before that.

Conditions would have almost certainly favoured us today. But if you think about it, probably favours us overall:

- they were pretty injury free.
- we’ll have Tarks & Westy back when we play them.
- will likely still be a winter game and midweek in the freezing cold.
- may even have an extra player or two if AP gets his finger out early in the January window.
- Obviously not great to be missing players for Wolves but they are without Neves so on balance less debilitating than playing a full strength Spurs.
- new manager bounce will be well and truly over by then

Hi Andy, this was the situation at the start of Man City V West Ham

I wasn't actually at the Turf when the match was called off, but I suspect that it wasn't anything like that

Cheers

Yes I can tell you've nothing better to do. That's why you've resorted to whinging on here.

Yes. That's what I said. But I am right about it and I really feel for those who've had their day wasted and lost out financially because of it. These things DO bother me and I make no bones about it.

I'm pleased for your concern for my day being wasted and that I've lost out financially mate, but really, there is no need

Its just one of those things that happen when it snows

Probably is not enough when you think of the thousands of folk outside, milling around for an hour or more, muttering about the ref's/club's indecision.....a decision was made, some were seriously inconvenienced, others had to suffer being "bored" for a bit.....it happens. Freak conditions gave them no choice. Dyche's appraisal of events is good enough for me.

Cowardly is exactly how I see it. A lot of people are out of pocket and have had their day wasted
You could argue that happens a lot watching Burnley these days.

It's a game of football and postponements happen. Might serve you well to factor that in to your decision making if football is your chosen way to spend a day out in future.

But you weren't even there!

I was and it's just one of those things. Time will tell when the full facts come out as to who had the final say, and why.

Look on the bright side... you don't have to endure our players taking the knee, as that clearly offends you so much!
