One man's "neanderthal" is the next man's spokesman.

I've read on social media that Burnley fans were singing ‘you let your country down’ to Rashford and Sancho?

The only two who were playing tonight that , some would say, when it came to the crunch , "let their county down" as they see it. If you choose to see it as a skin colour issue then that's your opinion. Don't fall into the trap of letting others see it as a simply "your not good enough at the highest level " issue expressing their opinionBurnley Ace wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:19 pmCrazy the only two singled out were the black players. Ask yourself this very straightforward question.
Who brought the issue of skin colour into it. You, or those singing, " you let YOUR COUNTRY
down"?
Stop and have a little think .

Re: Mention for the fans
Admittedly we left with 5 minutes to go, I don’t recall any singing at Rashford, did he come on after we left? And as for Sancho it was a fairly pathetic attempt to sing at him and didn’t particularly last long. I did think the song against Ronaldo was very funny.

Oh ffs get over yourself with you ridiculous self righteous windbaggery. While I personally thought the old cliched “ you let your country down “ was cringeworthy in the extreme ,to suggest this was racism is offensive ludicrous nonsense . The crowd was a fired up boozed coked up holiday mass , also giving relentless stick to Ronaldo , calling Shaw a fat b@stard , Maguire got stick too etc etc . I was also a little suprised at the boos ,though the gesture almost seems invisible now.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:19 pmCrazy the only two singled out were the black players. You didn't. Had you done so you may be fortunate to remember the grief that the following players got for "letting THEIR COUNTRY DOWN. And here's the thing. It wasn't the colour of their skin.
Stuart Pearce, England v West Germany, 1990
"My world collapsed," he wrote later. "The walk back to the centre circle was a nightmare as the first onrush of tears pricked at my eyes."
Chris Waddle, England v West Germany, 1990
Waddle later said: "There were two ways to react; basically you can do a Lord Lucan and disappear or stick your chest out and prove to everybody you're a good footballer."
David Beckham, European Championship, 2004
Beckham had long been England's penalty–taker, scoring the penalty that beat Argentina in the World Cup in Japan in 2002. But he put a penalty high over the bar in Turkey during qualifying for Euro 2004. Then he missed a penalty in the opening game against France.
Nevertheless, as captain, Beckham expected, and was expected, to step up to take the opening penalty after yet another dramatic and controversial tie. Beckham slipped as he took the kick and he skied it.
Was it because they were white?

Absolutely, and Beckham didn't deserve it either. The only thing he did wrong is that he didn't jump up and down on Simeone's head as he should have done.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:52 pmYou’re aware that Beckham was the first to have this nonsense widely sung about him, and comedy villian Rooney.

I distinctly remember singing the “you let your country down” in my younger days at Stuart Pearce in the Littlewoods cup all them years ago.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 11:52 pmYou’re aware that Beckham was the first to have this nonsense widely sung about him, and comedy villian Rooney.

Re: Mention for the fans
Heres the stone cold facts.
Throught the decades England players, who've , rightly or wrongly , been seen as bottling it when it came to a crucial match have been turned upon as " letting their country down "
Given the emotion that's wrapped up in an international game, particularly a final, don't be surprised if , when certain players, regardless of their skin colour, are perceived as "letting their country down" when the eyes of the nation were on them. Receive, rightly or wrongly , vitriol from certain sections on local crowds when they are playing afterwards.

Re: Mention for the fans
With how this place is run and set up, and the wide views of the posters on it, it is always going to be 'every single thread'.
Your positive thread was going swimmingly until someone (Burnley Ace) was negative about our support.
Yes it is boring, but until it is properly managed and/or we get a separate board for all the race, politics and Brexit shite, it's going to carry on happening.

I didn't even realise the knee was booed, but as a fan base we like to boo and wind people up, even give opposition players stick/abuse.

It doesn't matter if they warrant it, we'll boo and take the p1ss out of anyone and everyone. It's nothing new.
Re: Mention for the fans
Was in hospitality tonight AF stand across from dug outs, so approx half way line, could hardly hear our support but could hear Stretford End, not impressive. Certainly didn’t pick up any of the chants referred to in earlier posts.
Re: Mention for the fans
Feel for the attending fans, losing isn't any fun. Dan Black just tweeted we've ended 2021 with the worst points-per-game record of all 92 clubs in the four tiers of English football.

Re: Mention for the fans
That's understandable because the team was genuinely poor at Newcastle and didn't show half the determination we saw on display in Manchester. Even then we backed em for the majority of the game at SJP. It's not half frustrating that we can be so bad against genuine relegation rivals and then so good against one of the giants.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:39 pmThey did stay behind the team, which they didn’t at Newcastle
Ah well, on to the next one. Get behind um regardless folks - it's way more fun when we do.

Watched on Amazon Prime, as the teams were in the tunnel, throughout the match and after the final whistle you could hear the Burnley fans loud and clear. Guess it depends where the cameras and microphones are.
