Tuesday is the biggest game since…
The Boro game 19th April 2016. Micheal Keane with a 92nd min equaliser. The noise when that goal went in and the celebrations that followed is one of the loudest goal cheers Iv ever heard the Turf along with Blake v United.
The biggest game since but for different reasons that game we was so close to promotion to the Premierleague and ultimately got what we wanted, this time we are so close to relegation even with how long is left in the season nothing but a WIN will do on Tuesday, that’s how big it is a draw is no good.
The ground and atmosphere won’t be as good as the Boro night but I’m hoping the players can find something and we get the win which would take us out of the relegation zone.
IF we lose or even draw that’s all but relegation confirmed for me.

Re: Tuesday is the biggest game since…
My biggest concern is the team we can put out.
I assume we will line up something like this:
Pope
Lowton, Tarks, Mee, Taylor
Brownhill, Westwood
JBG, Lennon, McNeil
Jay.
Let’s hope we sign someone before lunch tomorrow

I wonder if we should be going in for Keane. Not liked at Everton and would be an upgrade on the departing Tarks.

Not convinced on that one. Has he scored more own goals than anyone else in history?claret2018 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 10:01 pmI wonder if we should be going in for Keane. Not liked at Everton and would be an upgrade on the departing Tarks.

This is our biggest problem, our strongest possible team for the biggest game of the season and to be honest I think only 3 of them would get in any other premier league team.Top Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 9:47 pmPope

I’ve only got him in my starting eleven because Lennons scored a league goal. I believe the only player in your team to have scored a league goal this season is Ben Mee.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 10:26 pmIf you only have one forward why play two?

Not particularly criticising your selection, but we need to get some control in midfield. 4 haven't managed it in ages.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 10:28 pmI’ve only got him in my starting eleven because Lennons scored a league goal. I'd swap a lightweight forward for an extra body in midfield every time.

Fair suggestion, just highlighting how little goal threat we have in our squad nowboatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 10:31 pmNot particularly criticising your selection, but we need to get some control in midfield. 4 haven't managed it in ages.

I’d take out Lowton and Tarkowski from the back 4 and put in Roberts and Collins with Bardsley just missing out or even playing if Roberts not ready which I hope is no longer the case.
Stephens has to start and having both JBG and Lennon in the team is the equivalent of giving Watford carte blanche to control the game. Maybe one but not both.
I’d find a place for Pieters to add further steel.
We need fighters from now on !
Covid permitting

Re: Tuesday is the biggest game since…
Have we any hunches as if it's likely to go ahead. My brother is coming up from Southampton for the game and I don't want him to have a wasted journey as he's leaving relatively early Tuesday?
Re: Tuesday is the biggest game since…
We haven’t exactly set the world alight in our previous ‘biggest’ games of the season - Newcastle and a heavily depleted Leeds away.
Let’s hope we at least have a proper go this time.

We've only got 1 striker. Our best chance of scoring is as set piece, so I'd play Collins Tarks and Mee. Who us most likely to put it on their heads ? Westwood obviously.

I can't wait to see Ralph have a meltdown if it's called off. Realistically we only need one covid case to have it called off, precedent set with Arsenal

Re: Tuesday is the biggest game since…
.... the Leeds game.
.....................Pope
Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor
.....................Cork
JBG, Brownhill, Westwood, McNeil
...................Rodriguez
When we are attacking Browhill and Westwood push forward. Cork moves up behind, rarely passing into the final third. His priority is screening the defence, not testing his pace by running up and down the full length of the pitch for 90 minutes. Westwoods forward limit is the edge of the box, Brownhill can push into the box if he must. Both can pass forward, out wide or shoot.
Lennon can come on later with fresh legs if we are pushing for a goal, replacing Cork.
If JBG wants to drift into the centre and push forward to shoot, with Westwood and Brownhill shifting to the right and Cork moving up to hold the line, then I don't see a problem with that. JBG actually has a decent shot in him and he very rarely gets to use it. As long as it doesn't happen to frequently.
Dwight can stick to the left wing, overlapping with Taylor, moving the ball up the pitch, helping out defensively and floating in crosses to unsettle Watford. More importantly he can draw players to him, creating pockets JBG can exploit on the right. Let them think Dwight is the drift in goal threat. I doubt Watford will expect JBG to be the second point of our attack, because we never make JBG the second point of our attack.
If they wise up to it then Dwight can start to drift in, Taylor can move up to hold the line and Cork can shift left if he needs to.
Ordinarily it would be a case of working the ball into the box and developing a high percentage shot, but with one up front I think we should roll the dice a bit more and shoot from the edge of the box a bit more than usual.
Most importantly we don't over extend ourselves and push too far forward as a devil may care unit, exposing ourselves to counter attacks that we don't have the pace to deal with effectively. We hold the line, probe at opportune moments, frustrate them, wear them down and grid it out.
We win ugly, the same way the Roman legions conquered half the known world with the plodding, protection first, Testudo formation.

it's the biggest game of Dyche's managerial career to date imho. If he keeps us up this season he will absolutely deserve a statue

Re: Tuesday is the biggest game since…
I would expect that we'll hear today how the latest round of covid tests have gone. I'd be surprised if there's been a significant change over the last few days. Obviously if it does go ahead Watford shouldn't be allowed to play their three new signings and they should lose a top player of Ralf's choice to make things "fair" because we've lost Wood.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:31 amI can't wait to see Ralph have a meltdown if it's called off. Whatever it’s size let’s hope we approach it positively, prepared to take risks. The cautious, we can’t afford to lose this match hasn’t served us well this season. Only wins are going to cut it now. Three wins good as 9 draws.

I think from now until the end of this season every game will be the next biggest game.
