Burnley not interested in Bamba Dieng from Marseille apparently
FootMercato suggesting that Crystal Palace, Newcastle, Burnley and West Ham are interesting in the 10m Euro rated 21 year old. Footsur7 are linking him with Aston Villa, West Ham, Palace, Burnley and Newcastle. Apparently nobody has made a concrete offer yet though for the "new Drogba".

He's scored 4 goals in 19 appearances for Marseille but at just 5'10" I'd be surprised if he'd be seen as a target man to replace Chris Wood.

Sounds like OM or some agent is trying to drum up some business.

6ft 6in and very good with his feet, 29 but an excellent goalscoring record in the Bundesliga.

Weghorst is a like for like (but better NOW) replacement for wood. Shame he’s not a few years younger but I’d be pleased.

In the last 5 and a half seasons, 90 league goals (dutch and German leagues) in 178 matches. In all competitions, 115 in 230 matches overall. Surely out of our league? We can dream, can we?

Scoring goals in the Bundesliga is easier than in the Premier League. Scoring in the Eredivisie is much, much easier.

I agree but to determine the quality of a player in these leagues you need to factor in which team they play for, Wolfsburg aren't a Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund and AZ Alkmaar are certainly not an Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord.

The fact he has continued to score after leaving the Dutch league suggests he is a natural goal scorer, even if we are aware he probably won't score 1 in 2 for us.

Probably just a story to fill the paper anyway.

Quick read up on Twitter. Apparently he asked for a transfer because his team have stopped creating chances. His GM can’t work out why no one has come in for him. He seems to be a bit of a bad influence.

The fans think it’s funny. I think this translates as Wout Weghorst waiting for his offers.

I think Wout Weghorst could score a good few for us if he signed, 6ft 6inch target man would love balls coming in from Cornet, Orsic, Roberts and Taylor. McNeil tucking in behind him could feed him along the ground or pick up his knock downs he scores different goals not just headers.

Goals from last season.

I guarantee Dyche saw that video, stopped it at the tackle success rate portion, and said “Sign him up.”

Come on Burnley, today is Thursday the official transfer signing day for us 😆 🤣 let's get 2 or 3 over the line then hopefully against Watford up front we could look a little bit like

..............Weghorst

Orsic........McNeil........Cornet

I really hope we don’t sign Weghorst. He’s slow and bad with the ball. It will be like when we signed Crouch at the end of his career.

It’s a shame we aren’t looking to reduce the age bracket of the players we want and plan ahead with the signings. Weghorst clearly another ‘short term fix’ but his scoring record seems decent. That daily mail article is rather scary with the suggestion we looked at donkeys Lyndon Dykes and Kieffer Moore.

His scoring record is pretty good (1 in 2) and has been playing Champs League football this year. Not sure on his link play but at 6’ foot 6 I’d imagine Dyche wants him for the flick ons / hold it up and allow Orsic/McNeil/Cornet to play around him. Plus we know Dyche likes having an extra big man for defensive set pieces.

Wout Weghorst featured on my list of replacements I posted on a different thread earlier in the window, got some very good players have Wolfsburg, no idea why they're so shite this season. Love me a good old fashioned Dutch international centre forward, anyone saying no to a full time Dutch international who scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga last year is fookin deluded

He’d be a fantastic signing and probably the best we could realistically get to replace Wood. Hopefully something in it.

Oh

He certainly is tall

Look, there are two strikers who you think could be quite good from Holland and they really are not, and they are Weighorst and Bas Dost

But we need a striker I suppose, and he'd be better than Carroll (or similar)

I’m hoping that we aim for some a bit younger - of course we need people for the here and now, but I’d much prefer we look to buy players that we can move on for a profit, should they perform well and should the need arise.

He’s a Holland I international with at least 2-3 good years left in him I’d imagine. I’ve never seen him play, but his age doesn’t concern me.

Yes fine saying that but will a 22 year striker score goals. Now.
We need players that can preform against Watford our very next important game.

4th best ‘pressing forward’ in Europe too according to these stats.

Can see why Dyche would want him.

He certainly is tall

Look, there are two strikers who you think could be quite good from Holland and they really are not, and they are Weighorst and Bas Dost

But we need a striker I suppose, and he'd be better than Carroll (or similar)
really not good? Where on earth do you get that from? Carroll has never scored 20 goals in his damn life. Prolific goalscoring record with a better all around game than Chris Wood.

Bas Dost has fought himself back into the Brugge side recently, another goalscoring machine but definitely more one dimensional than Weghorst. Dost scored twice for Brugge last weekend against Standard Liege, Raskin for Liege really impressed me.

I can’t believe Newcastle didn’t buy him considering he’s better than Chris Wood!

I think that deal also had a lot to do with them weakening/disrupting a rival.

Anyway, how much do we think they’d want for him, can’t see him coming cheap.
