It's all bad news out of Man U at the moment. The Greenwood story is really bad news for them and now it's being reported that they are treating Jesse Lingard very badly, by not letting him leave on loan. Maybe they will relent and let him come to Burnley?
That would do for me.

West ham and Newcastle in for him. So no chance for us there.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 2:13 pmIt's all bad news out of Man U at the moment. Thing is, if we do have someone who is waiting to be rejected by someone else, who have got their first choice target, but his parent club haven't replaced him with their first choice target, and its can all fall down

I would imagine the delay with Rangers and Ramsey is because the applications are still pending for 35 different Credit Cards they applied for...

The quality he possesses when fit is undeniable but no great loss in terms of fitness concerns & a big time Charlie could upset the culture although not guaranteed he’d display that attitude but bearing in mind he’d be earning substantially more than the rest of the lads that within itself could rise to resentment.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 1:11 pmRamsey clearly couldn't hack it in the PL. Dan Gosling ‘knocked down’ by Burnley when asked says the chap at Turf Moor on SSN.
Breathe easy, we’re clearly after midfielders but not him.

We haven't done bare minimum though have we? Pace has been jetting around trying to get deals over the line and we've been link with as many players as I can remember, with a step up in quality. Unfortunately we're still suffering from seasons of a lack of investment and this type of transfer strategy...that has left us down at the bottom and with an ageing squad. We aren't the most attractive side or place to come for most players and when you look at who we've been up against, it's no wonder we struggle, but you can't say at all that we've done bare minimum - effort has been made but we don't have the pull of the top (or rich) teamsNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 2:06 pm2/10 window. We have done the bare minimum which is replace a striker that we sold.
Given our circumstances it’s a poor window but hopefully we can get someone in on loan at the last minute to turn it into a 5/10

Be even better if they just made the transfer window 1 week long.
The same amount of business would be done and normal people would be spared the daft behaviour

You would have to be very generous to think that the lack of investment was a transfer strategy as opposed to a selling strategy.

Wood has had plenty of service and missed some glorious chances. If Wood had been doing his job correctly this season he would be on 7 or 8 and we’d be about 16th.

Like I said on the other thread I genuinely believe a CM and a RM added to first team completely transforms this team into a mid table quality team.

Football is a team sport, no amount of "If X did his job" changes that and points to gross overreliance on one player consistently performing- which Wood did for years, arguably overperforming consistently given the scoring company he was in. Out of form or not Wood was a proven asset, who I do believe we have upgraded on but that hasn't strengthened the weaker areas of the team and does nothing to address what needed improving. Blaming Wood for failing to hit 8 goals in 16 games for a team like us by January is farcical, it's like saying if Cornet stops his league topping goals per minutes return (which he likely will as his form has been frankly extraordinary) that Cornet is why we're not higher up the table.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 2:56 pmWood has had plenty of service and missed some glorious chances. I think Weghorst is a superb signing and theoretically a big upgrade.
I think anybody expecting him to notch 10 in the remaining 20 games with the team otherwise unchanged is grossly misunderstanding the situation.
These are not mutually exclusive.

Yes I do and most of the games I have been to the service has been non existent. He may have missed a few chances over the course of the season but end of the day it's a team game. Is Weghorst going to be an improvement on Wood if service remains the same? I hope so but I really don't know. We really need another Defour esque player that can drive us forward from midfield. If we don't improve in this window, it has to be seen as a failure. We haven't made any improvements to the side. Hopefully Weghorst will be an improvement but only time will tell. He is unproven in the Premier league.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 3:08 pmDid you go to any matches? Wood had loads of chances and missed 90% of them.

I don’t think newcastleclaret93 always puts his/her point across in the best way but they aren’t far wrong here.
We’ve replaced a proven Premier League goalscorer with a striker who looks like a quality replacement but isn’t proven in the Premier League.
Pre-window, it looked pretty obvious to me that we were short of quality wide right and in the centre of midfield. We’ve done nothing to rectify those problems.
Hoping for a couple of rabbits in the next 8 hours or so. Deal sheets at the ready…
