This is really serious if he's genuinely unhinged

A madman with no control over his power, with nuclear weapons and a huge looming economic crisis

They have also threatened Sweden and Finland if they join NATO within the last hour
They've made these noises about Finland, Sweden and NATO before. It's nothing new.

Yes There are some moments in history of war remembered.

There is a village in France left as a monument to what happened there.
I don't see the relevance of this. Germany and France are no longer enemies.

US- Russia has not managed to secure any urban centres across the country and do not have air superiority yet.

That last point is astounding.

The irony. All talk and no action. The American way.
While the EU refused to remove SWIFT access, america did something "more draconian" to Russia than removing SWIFT access.

Yeah, if they haven't got that, after attacking first and using pretty much all their smart weaponry (I am massively sceptical about how good their hypersonic missiles are), then they might never get it

I'm pretty sure that Ukraine should be able to control its own airspace in the West, but I don't know how far East

Certainly not Kiev, but certainly places like Nikolayev* (I only know it by its Soviet name I'm afraid, but its on the coast between Kherson and Odessa) and Zhitomir

And the US have been absolutely spot on with their assessment for months now, so you can take their view to the bank

I read that Ukraine got almost all their planes off the ground before their runways got hit on night 1.

If I’m incorrect I apologise. However, I stick by my comments about the press conference yesterday and that sanctions or not the response is insufficient from everyone in the west.

I think their hypersonic missiles are entirely ballistic after a certain point. So they won't be very precise. They're probably much over hyped. (ha, but really. I don't expect much from them.)

Been said by loads on social media yesterday, the last country to absolutely devastate Ukraine was the Nazis, and for Russia (a country that makes our fascination and, er, "slightly nuanced" view of WWII) to be doing what the Nazis did will be very hard to sell to the Russian people

Again, tweeted as a negative by people who support the previous president (the one who tried to overthrow the US democracy)

China has some clout with Russia, and what do you think Russia can do with evidence of its own build up?

In the 'good old days' of the Cold War I recall that we would see photos of Soviet naval units 'bristling with radar and other electronics' compared to RN ships with maybe only a few devices. I later read that RN ships and their personnel had the ability to repair these whereas the Soviets did not so everything was duplicated. I don't know if this was really true but it was a good illustration of how such photos could be interpreted for whatever view you wanted.

I guess that one of the issues facing us now is that pretty much everyone in the UK with an IQ in double figures or above knows we're being lead by possibly the most self serving, dishonest and blatantly corrupt PM in our history..
..and at a time like this it's really not ideal...and no I'd not want Corbyn near no.10 either.

Only following this on here but it reads to me that Putin has the upper hand thru his gas and oil supplies to rest of Europe.
Who on earth agreed to Russia having that power over other countries especially UK ?
It’s a complex position, but to try to put it simply, only to stop it being really boring.
After Fukushima, Germany (Merkel in particular) decided Russia was not a threat as she was East German. Based on this Germany shut down several nuclear reactors to avoid a nuclear accident and went largely Gas which they got from Russia.

We get about 3-5% of our gas, but it’s a pipeline that’s a European pipeline. We couldn’t cope without the gas from that pipeline.
Italy is also heavily dependent on Russian gas.

Like seriously. One oranged idiot called him "sleepy Joe" and then an entire collection of misinformation and lies are built around it so that gullible fools fall for it.

great, I disagree, that's my opinion :D
that's all any of us can do, read listen and make opinions, some are clearly tainted with political likes/dislikes but at the end of the day, as long as we politely put our opinions forward with some kind of rationale as to why, then it can be a good thread.

I will be shocked if any NATO troops set foot in the Ukraine, they're basically on their own with a large part of the world supporting them from afar, flag waiving and making a general nuisance of themselves to Russia, aimed particularly at Putin, but essentially ineffectual.

Unfortunately my opinion is he will come out of this as a winner and for all the rhetoric, things will slowly go back to normal, Putin will be disliked but largely not interested what anyone else thinks, it's following a similar pattern we've seen before, yes far more serious than his other antics but nobody is turning that pipeline off, which if I'd have been looking at it. It's the thing I would have targeted in the first hour of the invasion, welcome to my world of hurt Europe.

Blair's dishonesty and corruption was far more significant and that's very recent history. War is the most serious of matters and what Russia is doing exemplifies this.

Needs to be done but Gazprom was paying UEFA, so all Gazprom will lose is some prestige and match day hospitality opportunities. They're a state monopoly, they don't need to advertise really.
Serves us right for getting into bed with them.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oradour-s ... e_massacre
But they remember it.
When I worked in France, I had an Avis hire car and I was being constantly intimidated and cut up , nearly crashing many times. When I told the French lads, they looked and laughed. It was on German plates. They told me the only people they hate more than the English are the Germans. Swapped it for one on French plates and it was fine after that. Things that happen in war are remembered for generations. Ukraine who survive will remember was my point. It’s an example of how the French remember.

So Biden shared information with China about Russia building up troops.
China shared this with Russia.
What difference would it make?

Were Russia not aware Russia was building troops up or something?????

that's all any of us can do, read listen and make opinions, some are clearly tainted with political likes/dislikes but at the end of the day, as long as we politely put our opinions forward with some kind of rationale as to why, then it can be a good thread.

I don't see any way Putin or Russia will win long term. Putin and his mates all stood there and said "there will be no invasion".........whatever credibility or trust he had around the world has evaporated. The West will now look more seriously at energy alternatives - don't forget (as an example) Canada alone has over double the oil reserves of Russia

US- Russia has not managed to secure any urban centres across the country and do not have air superiority yet.

That last point is astounding.
We sent a lot of Javilin missiles, they can be used on low flying planes and helicopters. I am sure it will have got round the Russian military that many of their comrades unfortunately have been incinerated inside their tanks . They probably set off thinking they were going in to a country who would be cheering them on as drove through the streets. Kinda what Putin was saying on the TV was going to happen.

Everyone is laughing at you when you fall for this propaganda.

Like seriously. One oranged idiot called him "sleepy Joe" and then an entire collection of misinformation and lies are built around it so that gullible fools fall for it.

Vegas, you disappoint me.
why ? You don't think Biden's delivery is an issue ? I certainly do especially at times like this. Like I said to KRBFC, let's not turn the thread into an argument about Trump v Biden, it's too important to be get closed down/locked.

Japanese ship and a Moldovan tanker hit by Russian missiles in the Black Sea

I'm getting concerned here everyone, they really are taking zero precautions to avoid civilian casualties

Very good summary of what appears to be the situation and a big miscalculation by the Russians
