Think you could get a decent starting 11 from those lads.

And don't those wooden seats in the CS look comfy.
Re: 1970s Team Pic
Did Noble persuade Morley to go for the “more mature” haircut.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
It's the 1975/76 season, isn't it? I thought we only wore that kit for one season. And Mike Summerbee only played for us in that season.
Re: 1970s Team Pic
That for me is a sad photo.
It's which players are not in the photo that is important. It shows a team no longer the force it could have been and on the road level to the very bottom.
I never liked that kit either!

I also thought 75/76 with Summerbee on there but no Willie Morgan. Happy to be corrected.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
Start of 1976 - 77 season ? Summerbee signed for Blackpool on Christmas Eve 1976 after leaving Burnley. As mentioned above a number of stalwarts had left by then - Colin Waldron, Doug Collins, Mick Docherty, Frank Casper no longer in the team. Morgan had also left after just one season back at Turf. Joe Brown didnt last too long after this picture was taken.
Re: 1970s Team Pic
Morris and Flynn not paying attention. Five laps of the pitch for you boys!

Is that Colin Morris, front left? He left for Southend in 1976.

Absolutely one of the best (and most ground breaking) strips of all time that.
Beautiful.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
Didn’t we have that from ‘74-‘77?
I have a pic of strips and it says this one was 75-79 but that seems too long to me. My memory ain’t all that tho to be fair….

Big question - how many of those are still with us today ?
I didn't care for the kit either - still don't.

Hankin sold not long after
Re: 1970s Team Pic
Sadly as already stated, a lot of the players from the first division team that did so well under Jimmy Adamson had left. This was a team with players that had seen better days and struggled in the 2nd division, it was the beginning of the end of our youth production line that served us so well in the past. We didn't know it then, but it was the start of a slow painful slide which ended with the Orient game

Re: 1970s Team Pic
Waldron, Docherty, Collins and Morgan all moved on by Lord but not a single replacement. We did sign Malcolm Smith (initially on loan) and Terry Cochrane early in the season.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 5:59 pmAnd not a new signing amongst the 15 on show on that photo

I actually think it's the relegation season (75/76) as Summerbee played for 1 season and it was the one we went down (I think )randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 12:09 pm76/77 Team pic Tony ? Just been relegated from the First Division

Too late to edit this, but just seen CTs post stating that Summerbee played in Div 2 so I bow to his better memory (or more likely Google!)

Just before my time, but I was lucky enough to see most of them play for Burnley, even though Billy Rodaway, Tony Morley and Brian Flynn was after they had re-signed from other clubs.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
I didn't realise we had the strip for so long. I really liked it, apart from that it came to symbolise decline. A bit of rugby league about it. No Willie Morgan in the photo so, given it must be a pre-season one, taking account of the state of the pitch, it must be 1976/77 as Tony says.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
It is 1976/77 - can't be any later with Joe Brown on the pic and can't be any earlier with Morley on without his hair.Quicknick wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:02 amI didn't realise we had the strip for so long. Re: 1970s Team Pic
It’s high-time we brought back that away shirt. It’s colour combination echoes the 1947 FA Cup Final shirt of royal blue with claret trim. Simply magnificent. I always questioned whether the light blue shorts complemented the shirt. The overall look had an appearance of a kit having rather being cobbled together.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 6:16 pmMe too - loved that kit and the blue with claret trim away kit at the same time.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
At the time I'd no idea that we'd worn the same colours in the 1947 cup final with that game having been played in black and white.Higham_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:31 amIt’s high-time we brought back that away shirt. The first time we wore it was at Bramall Lane for the opening game of the 1973/74 season but we wore white shorts and claret socks that day I think. Afterwards we wore the sky blue shorts and royal blue socks for most games. It needs claret numbers on the back though.
I don't have a pic I can use but there's a Getty image at the link below, taken at Arsenal.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
I was at that game at Bramhall Lane and was stunned when the team came out wearing a kit we’d not seen before, either in the press or worn in a previous game. No social media then, of course, to forewarn supporters. I instantly loved it, helped by the fact we won (2-0). I think it looked better with white shorts and claret socks. Classy with a nod to a memorable time in BFC’s history.
The 1947 team we’re legends to my Dad - he attended the 1947 cup final as a young lad - and he’d readily rhyme off their names until Alzheimer’s stopped his ability to do so.

I was at this game, too. No recollection of the kit or its historical significance. I have a clear recollection of Dobo's goal, though.

I remember Burnley fans singing “Hello, hello, it’s good to be back” (as in back in the top division)

My dad was very fortunate to get a ticket for the final. He was only demobbed part way through that season but my auntie, I think, had a season ticket and let him go instead of her. Granddad there of course.Higham_Claret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 11:45 am

Like your dad, he could rhyme them off with Brown and Attwell the two he liked more than any other. Sadly, the same illness took away his ability to remember too.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
I can understand the attraction of that V shirt to many, but I never liked it. I thought back then, and still to me now, it looks more like a rugby league shirt than a football shirt.
The ‘joke’ at the time was that the V was there to point to our slide down the leagues. That’s another reason I dislike the shirt.
Whereas the blue away shirt mentioned earlier was more simple in style, but smart.

Re: 1970s Team Pic
York City had a similar shirt in the mid-70s. But it had a big 'Y' on the front, leading them to be called 'The Y-fronts'.

Blue with claret trim - Leeds away - 4-1 - biggest memory I have from my formative years - pure class.

I remember that kit coming out. I think Christ The King primary school had it as their kit as well. At St Mary Mags we had the West Ham away kit
