Positives….
Depending on a few factors (such as if Mee is staying)
- Collins & Mee easily best CB partnership in the league
- Roberts & Taylor easily the best fullback/wingback pairing in the league
- Hennessey one of the best keepers in that league
If we get the right guy in and pick up some decent frees, there’s no reason why we can’t be back at the right end of the table this time next season.

Re: Positives….
Hopefully see one or two youth players break into the team. Richardson being the main one. Perhaps Bobby Thomas.
New manager hopefully with a positive playing style and see a team capable of playing progressive football.
More wins, more local derbies and more night matches.

We're not going to need to find 7 Premier league quality players this transfer window.

Re: Positives….
Agree with all of the above.
- we came third last in a season beset with injuries and, without excusing some poor performances, some bad decisions that went against us.
- I think we have a pretty strong squad (more so than Watford/Norwich) of experienced pro’s. Despite outgoings, I expect that will stand us in good stead.
- the quality difference between the Champ and PL is huge and whatever our financial position, it will be A LOT stronger than our competitors for a season or two.
- when you look how well Dunne has done at QPR, a player nobody wanted near our first team, even if we lost Mee I would back Thomas and other youth players to be able to put in a decent showing in the Championship.
- I’m looking forward to not starting games worrying about how we keep teams out - St Max, Almiron, Wilson, Coutinho, Ings, Buendia, Watkins - even the poorer Prem sides have very dangerous players, so it’ll be nice going in to games expecting to be on the front foot.
- I’m looking forward to the local derbies.

Re: Positives….
Far outweigh the negatives (on the pitch)
We won’t be in a PL relegation dogfight all season
It’s a fairer competition on the Champ
The PL is becoming a bit like the SPL where only certain teams can win it
More games
New teams to play
We actually have a chance in the cups
We might play some better football
Lots of local derbies
We don’t have to put up with Paul Tierney or Kevin Friend
We might get to see some players whose sole motivation isn’t money
Less prima donnas rolling around on the pitch
More proper fans of opposing teams and not armchair fans

Re: Positives….
When I look at our team, assuming we obviously sell Pope and Cornet, we have the makings of a decent side for that division. We need to be making signings (and getting a manager in) within the next two weeks though. Lawrence, Swift and Wallace are absolute must-get pick ups on free transfers as they are all in areas we need a player, and are proven performers in that division and won't cost us anything.
We need Ben to commit to us as he and Collins at centre back will likely give us enough clean sheets as a platform to at least guarantee a Play-Off place as a minimum (no exaggeration there). They would be unreal in that division.

Biggest positive is (hopefully) no VAR next season.

Re: Positives….
I fear you might be disappointed then.
Re: Positives….
Question is do Lawrence, Swift and Wallace want to come to Burnley. I read West Brom are keen on Wallace, as are others. Much will depend on who our manager is, id imagine, as that can give you an extra pull.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 9:23 amWhen I look at our team, assuming we obviously sell Pope and Cornet, we have the makings of a decent side for that division. Re: Positives….
I stand corrected then I thought it was being introduced this coming season, what the heck is ‘var lite’?, either they do it in full or what is the point.

Re: Positives….
4 players covers the 65 million debt.
Then we have 90 million in parachute payments.
We're gonna smash it.

90m in parachutes is split over 3 seasons with 42 in year 1.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 10:37 am4 players covers the 65 million debt.

4 players doesn’t necessarily cover the debt as it depends which player is sold. We still owe on Cornet for example.
But I highly doubt we’ll be paying the full 65m off anyway. MSD lent the money to make money on interest payments, not get their money back. They’ll be hoping for a PL return while still getting their interest payments.

Sounds awful. Same system but with fewer cameras... so even more reason for them to get it wrong!

Hmm! that sounds even worse than what we tolerate now, and I note it's not gaining universal popularity amongst the EFL clubs.RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon May 23, 2022 10:37 amhttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sport ... ption.html

Re: Positives….
Defence looks alright, Tarks replaced by Collins, assuming Mee contract is extended.
Centre mid okay, if Cork extension is triggered. Brownhill scored goals in Champ so hopefully can be more dynamic than in the prem.
Jay leading the line, happy with that with the right strike partner.
Desperately need creativity and pace on wings. Would be great to see the likes of Costelloe, Thomas, Dodgson, Mancini, Thompson step up to the first team.

Re: Positives….
We can finally clear the decks of some high earners.
New manager who'll bring new ideas.
A fair chance of challenging for a PO place at the very least.
Some of our youngsters might finally be given a shot.
Victories over PNE and Rovers touch wood.
A run in the cups for a change.

Things I won’t miss
Game scheduling :sat lunchtime,sat teatime,Sunday afternoon,Monday night
with no thought for the fans and changing our games because someone’s in the Europa League/Europa conference.
Games being decided by toenails (var)
Unable to compete against billionaire owners
Refs big team bias
Getting hammered by city
