I think there’s a good chance the fans will get on board and buy into it, which is probably what’s needed right now. With all the negativity around at the moment, a meh appointment might’ve had high potential to turn the place toxic. We’ve seen what happens then, as with Brian Laws, it becomes cancerous. But this has more potential to go the other way and galvanise.
I never rated Jimmy Mullen, but once the fans decided he was the new messiah the whole thing becomes a juggernaut that almost takes care of itself. Same happened with Coyle. It makes a huge difference.

Really looking forward to it. Might not work out, but you can see plenty of positives as to why such an appointment would be great for the club as a whole. A new chapter and exciting times, as they say! Hope it is as good as done, as all the rumours are suggesting.

Re: Name the next manager
If this happens, I think it's an interesting appointment - far from free from risk, but eye catching and ambitious. Kompany was and is hugely respected at City as a player, leader and thinker - amongst those to speak warmly about his influence was a one Ben Mee (reflecting on when he came into a first team squad at City of which Kompany was captain). He's a very smart guy who has done an MBA and so has looked at business from the other lens, and of course he'll command respect for his record as a player.
The other side of the equation is that his managerial experience is limited to a very different environment in Belgium, and he's got absolutely no experience of the Championship whatsoever.
I think appointments like this often stand and fall by the backroom team they bring in. If Kompany brings in someone with deep experience of coaching in the Championship as part of his team, then I think this stands a much better chance of success than it otherwise might. But he also has the advantage of inheriting a squad which, although likely to be rebuilt this summer, has a core of very experienced players who will have a pretty good idea of how to get out of the Championship - particularly if he can make Ben Mee his first signing. Roberts, Lowton, Mee, Collins, Long, Taylor, Brownhill, Cork, Westwood (once fit) and Rodriguez are all in that bracket and if Kompany has the sense to work with them rather than against them, there's an element whereby they'll take care of quite a few of the details for themselves.
Certainly agree that he'll excite the fans, and that that is necessary, and you'd imagine he's got some assurances as to the extent of the sales that will be needed and the financial situation generally. Those City links won't hurt and nor will his knowledge of Belgian football generally. I hope he's not been recruited because he has the profile to attract investors, but if he does and it does, then that's a helpful by product.

Re: Name the next manager
Just to add a bit of balance for those saying Kompany has no previous experience managing in the Championship, Marco Silva had never managed in the Championship prior to this season. Scott Parker got promoted to the Prem in his first season (with Fulham) and second season (with Bournemouth). Carlos Coberan is only in his second season as a head coach too and Steve Cooper has less than 3 years experience as a club head coach.
Sean Dyche had less than two full seasons as a manager (Championship or otherwise) when we started that first promotion campaign. Not sure Owen Coyle had much Championship level managerial experience when he took us up in 2009 either.
No doubt experience can be helpful, but recent evidence and our own history suggests it’s not essential.

I don’t buy into the excitement part though. Yes, perhaps we do want a bit of excitement but ultimately, that’s on the pitch, not from signing a big name as manager.
For me, this is something of a bigger gamble than I might have been inclined to take, considering our position. Although perhaps not an appointment for the Premier League (should we achieve promotion) a manager with experience of taking teams up from the Championship, such as Farke, would have been my preferred approach.
Kompany may prove to be a great success but I think he’s far more of a gamble than was wise to take. Time will tell.

IF it does happen, could Defour have been an influence. He obviously loved his time at the club. Kompany would have been bound to ask him all about BFC.

Re: Name the next manager
The trouble with Farke is the style and his approach. He has shown (twice) real stubbornness in sticking with his approach despite it failing. So if he succeeded in getting us promoted he would struggle in the Prem and we have to pot him off.DCWat wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:35 pmA very fair assessment.

Yes, agreed about his ability to adapt to the league above. I think I’m just assigning more importance to us achieving promotion. The bigger gamble in my eyes (and I may well be wrong) is not to achieve promotion as opposed to achieving promotion and then potentially needing to recruit another manager.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:40 pmThe trouble with Farke is the style and his approach. I think it is the same as when SD took over, we won't know how it all going to pan out until we are 10-20 games into the new season, if he is as good as SD was, we are in for a Excellent ride over the next few seasons, if he joins he has my blessing and best wishes. UTC.

Absolutely brilliant.
Re: Name the next manager
Well I think it's pretty exciting. With so many players out of contract and the uncertainty around finances, every manager out there is a risk. Couldn't bear the thought of a Bruce, Hughes or Hughton type appointment. Major positive for me is that he's learned from the best and I'd be surprised to say the least if we saw 442 hoofball next season.

There’s a difference between negativity and having a view that it may be a riskier appointment. Having that view, which I do, isn’t mutually exclusive of being excited about what it may bring.warksclaret wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:48 pmFor those being negative about this appointment please give the Samaritans a call. There’s a bizarre view on this board that if you’re not wanking yourself into a frenzy about something, you’re negative. It’s a shame we can’t accept differing views without the need for criticism, it would really help debate.

There is undoubted risk to this one but it’s exactly what the club needed imo - a real shot in the arm. Will immediately command respect and should have excellent contacts. Agree that it would be a great help if he got some experienced heads in his backroom staff.
