Re: Name the next manager
So the talk he would only come if we stayed in the Premier League was off the mark. That's not a surprise.
All I can say is that I hope he's the right appointment and I certainly won't be seduced by a big name like I suspect some are.
I'm not impressed but will be open minded and hopeful that he has what it takes to get us competitive next season.
I will ignore his past connection with City in the same way I'll ignore his poor start to management in Belgium. Recent achievements there do encourage me.
We need to give him time

Nice video posted by Kompany.

Re: Name the next manager
Unless I’m mistaken, VK’s appointment has not been confirmed. I seem to remember talk on here only a few months ago about the Orsic ‘done deal’. Would we not be better waiting for an official announcement before getting ahead of ourselves with all this talk of what players VK may bring in, what formation he will play and what songs we would sing about him? Or does someone know his appointment is a certainty?

Imagine the melt down if at the last minute VK decides to join Blackburn. Let's get this one over the line.

Collins and Hennessey connection might help us then.
Makes a welcome change to actually be linked with targets so early in the window.

To be fair we’ve just had the emotional drop of relegation and the accounts, anything that lifts the spirits / excitement is good, if doesn’t come off oh well, we are used to disappointmentCarport wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 8:35 pmUnless I’m mistaken, VK’s appointment has not been confirmed. He'll have made an impression on and made contact with a lot of extremely wealthy individuals during his time at City given his role there. I'd imagine the board would be looking to make the most of thatclaretspice wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:09 pmI hope he's not been recruited because he has the profile to attract investors, but if he does and it does, then that's a helpful by product.

One thing is for sure is he should have good contacts in the game. Might pick up some gems and Defour on the coaching staff. If he can persuade someone like David Silva to come back to England to end his career that would be nice. He is 36 though

Mentioned earlier in the thread but Adnan Januzaj just became a free agent after his release from Sociedad. Still only 27. Will know him from the National team. Could be one to keep an eye on…

V excited about this.
I'm just speculating here...
Pace is on record somewhere as wanting to find (own?) another club in Europe to loan players to and from Burnley.
A club in Belgium would be beneficial in terms of work permits...
Kompany owns a football club in Belgium. BX Brussels. Granted, it's low level and I think with more of a focus on community, amateur football... but perhaps interesting.

Re: Name the next manager
PLEASE let's get a manager because he is a good manager (ie history of success) or because he has potential - NOT because he's a "name", or was a good player, or has contacts etc etc.
I would be underwhelmed with Kompany - he has no idea of the Championship, would cost an absolute fortune, and would demand big signings. We cannot afford this unless we're going to chase our losses - I've a terrible feeling that this is what Pace might be doing...

He's used to working under financial constraints, has a good record with younger players etc.
He isn't going to be demanding big signings, he's going to be well aware we're not going to be spending huge sums of money like Villa etc.

Kompany lived and played in England for eleven years. I suspect he knows more about the Championship than some of us think.

Would demand big signings - I suspect he's been brought in to help unearth gems not sign big names
Who would you prefer ? Chris Wilder ? Experienced, got a team out of the Championship - spent an absolute fortune and complained every week that he didn't have more money to spend - he would cost WAY more than Kompany imho
Re: Name the next manager

How does this compare with previous Burnley managers?

VK was more than just an excellent player, he was an excellent leader and always came across as intelligent. It’s not naive to assume he would make a good manager (which obviously no one knows for sure), it’s logical.

Re: Name the next manager
This is all true, but Silva is a very experienced manager, and Cooper, Coberan and Dyche had all got plenty of coaching years under their belts. The outlier is Parker, and he's had plenty to spend in both his Championship seasons.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 5:33 pmJust to add a bit of balance for those saying Kompany has no previous experience managing in the Championship, Marco Silva had never managed in the Championship prior to this season. Scott Parker got promoted to the Prem in his first season (with Fulham) and second season (with Bournemouth). Carlos Coberan is only in his second season as a head coach too and Steve Cooper has less than 3 years experience as a club head coach.
Sean Dyche had less than two full seasons as a manager (Championship or otherwise) when we started that first promotion campaign. Not sure Owen Coyle had much Championship level managerial experience when he took us up in 2009 either.
No doubt experience can be helpful, but recent evidence and our own history suggests it’s not essential.
So I'm not sure the comparison quite holds. Kompany has lots about him to suggest he could be a success, but the fact he's got only 2-3 years of experience, all as manager in a relatively weak domestic league, does mean it's reasonable to be a bit cautious about whether this is something of a leap. It's eye catching, but DCWat is quite right to say that exciting does not equal good.
I'm open minded about Kompany and I think there's lots to like about him, but it's a gamble. I'd like to think that gamble is softened if he's willing to work with the group of senior players, and I think an experienced coach who has been about the championship would be a good idea too. Interestingly Silva's assistant is Stuart Gray - which sort of underscores the point.

All managerial appointments are a gamble, but I would certainly take a punt on someone who was a top pro, won trophies and played in England for over a decade and already has two years of managerial experience under his belt. His appointment would be the fillip we all need. Bring it on.

Come on Clarets! I think with everything that has happened in the last few months, relegation, fans split into two halves( Dyche in or Dyche out) and constantly bickering, the fear of financial ruin, the appointment of someone like VK would be a great harmonising appointment. All the Clarets could come together, back the manager and team, get excited about some of the possibilities available to us in transfers/ loan deals, & perhaps try to push the financial side to the back of our minds!

Guardiola
Mancini
Pellegrini
Jol
Martinez
You would hope he'd picked up something about management along the way.
Every appointment is a gamble, too many vagaries in the game of football, but he has as good, if nor better, chance of success at Burnley, than most.
It would also be a massive fillip to the fans. Looking forward with excitement and confidence is far better than trepidation and worry.
