Ton up for Blundell. NZ approaching having enough in the tank to win by an innings with our track record.

100 for Blundell, and this pair again proving a real thorn in England's side.

This will tell BM a lot about the character of some England players when their turn eventually comes to bat.

400/4 after being put in ouch.

405/5 blundell gone for 106 attempting to hit Leach down the ground.

Not a bad way to make your debut coming in at 405/5.

Leach gets a wicket, but he's bowled poorly, and been far too easy to score off.

Is Bracewell the lad who was supposed to pro for Clitheroe this summer? Think he technically still is their professional, he just hasn't played for them yet.

If anyone can offer any explanation for what Jack Leach offers to Test cricket that would be fantastic. Should be nowhere near it.

No I did wonder that myself, even as a spinner to tie an end down he can't manage that, 6 maidens in 32 overs says it all, and he's going for nearly 4 an over, without really threatening to take wickets.

Oh! good the rain has arrived to come to England's aid. 481-5, Mitchell and Bracewell ticking along nicely, NZ rattling along at over 5 an over post lunch.

Play due to resume at 3.30 after an early tea interval, I guess England will be batting at some stage today, and the top order will need to stand up and be counted in testing circumstances.

Broad gets another 517-8, wickets coming quickly now for England, but I fear the damage has already been done.

We’ll be 4 down by the close and lose by an innings tomorrow/early Monday.

“Crawley gone for only 4.”

4 and out caught again. No idea why he is in the Test team. Can’t even perform in the County level game.

As long as we have Ben Stokes & Joe Root we have a chance :)

Yes but it's time for the rest to step up and contribute, and if they can't make runs on this pitch they never will.

90-1, well done Lees and Pope, a solid reply by England to that big NZ score.

Good start but a long long way to go still. The weather forecast is pretty good and batting conditions should be good Sunday and into Monday. Hopefully we get within a ton of NZ's score by the end of Sunday with still a few wickets in hand.

Very little chance of an England win but a draw is still achievable if we bat well first innings, fingers crossed for that then we can go to Leeds still 1-0 up.

100 partnership for this pair, however important they continue building, there's plenty of runs to be had on this track, but England still trail by plenty.

Ideal 1st hour for England, both overnight batsmen looking good, and now they should be hoping to go big and fill their boots.

Lees gone for 67, good knock but a poor dismissal when well set, 149-2 and a key period before lunch with Root at the crease.

Not a results pitch I fear, as in County cricket wickets slow and low this year.

331/2. Hopefully that’s a real boost to the confidence for Pope and it’s hard to find words for Root anymore with his form.

As much as the pitch is a road the new ball looked dangerous and still a long way behind. Massively refreshing to watch us not lose a wicket every 15 minutes though.

116 balls for the ton for Root, terrific rate of scoring in a test match.
New ball taken and tea being taken, if NZ can't make a breakthrough shortly after tea, they're in for a long hard evening I would think.

Tendulkar leads the way on 51, so that'll take some equalling, let alone surpassing.

And this is where Root has taken his game to another level in the past 2-3 years, now he converts when he reaches 50, where he did have a spell when that was an issue.

Different game since they've taken the new ball. England just need to weather the next hour, as a few quick wickets here, and the game could quickly turn on it's head.
