Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I've no problem with Nick leaving, especially if he wants to stay in the Prem, even though I think we'd do better in the Championship with him between the sticks, but the notion he could leave for the reported fee is gut wrenching.
Losing Cat 1 is shooting ourselves in the foot. Losing Nick for 8-10 million would be just as stupid.
I've always trusted AP to do what's right for Burnley, but this is stretching my faith a hell of a lot. Without knowing what is going on behind the scenes, or in Alans head, it's difficult to judge, but from the outside it looks like a disaster.

Nick Pope is a Claret.
We should pay him and keep him!

I was giving my opinion, and like you I have absolutely no idea what Kompany thinks, so why butt in?

Very true. I actually searched for Hull’s training ground earlier. Have a look. Ours is so much better it’s almost incomparable.buzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 2:42 pmThis is where things like the new training ground at Gawthorpe can possibly make a difference in a player deciding to come

I think this is on the Money. I think we'd likely get an absolute max of £15m for Pope given he is in the last year of his contract.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 12:32 pmNick Pope has been great for Burnley. However, he is a Premier League keeper and BFC cannot offer him that this coming season.
So, next question, does Nick Pope fit into Vincent Kompany's plans for the 1st team? Is Nick in the same situation as Joe Hart was at City, judged not to be a great contributor when playing out from the back?
If Nick Pope wants to play for a Premier League club and Vincent Kompany want to develop the team with a goalkeeper that suits his plans, than it's only a question of what's the best deal that can be done.
No sentimentality about money. The club gains nothing by holding out for more than the best offer they can get. Wasted wages, a great servant of the club possibly unhappy and some of this rubbing off on other members of the squad. There are positives in getting the deal done, even if the fee is lower than the fans think it should be.
Who knows, NUFC might feel the club owes them something after they paid £25 million for Chris Wood.
UTC
Plus if he wants to remain in the Premier League and may not fit into Kompany's plans then it makes sense to sell him.

Interesting link, more experience than other cb’s we’ve been linked to, but with that comes a greater cost - particularly when he’s at Club Brugges who aren’t short of cash.Smile wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 2:47 pmChampionship newcomers Burnley are looking into a transfer deal for Scotland international centre-back Jack Hendry, sources have exclusively told Football League World.

Strange one he's only been at Brugge for a year, and still has 3 years remaining on his contract, so I doubt he'd come cheap. also he's 27 so hardly fits the model of buying youngsters.Smile wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 2:47 pmChampionship newcomers Burnley are looking into a transfer deal for Scotland international centre-back Jack Hendry, sources have exclusively told Football League World.

TBH a lot of these links seem to be throwing random players who ply their trade in Belgium with a move to Burnley purely because of the VK connection, so I'd take most of them with a huge pinch of salt.

For what its worth I agree. But do I think he has the calming effect on the team that Pope has? No I would suggest its the opposite and for me why Everton’s defence was so poor. I see it as very similar to Hart for us… he did little wrong himself but our defences lack of trust in him was clear as day.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 3:04 pmKept Everton up with some brilliant performances towards the end of the season

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Some of the alleged low prices being quoted for Pope and Collins just don't stack up, particularly as we have been one of the best clubs at getting maximum dollar for our outgoings. If we are to survive that shrewdness has to continue. Two good bench marks are Ben White (already mentioned on here) who went for £50m, however he had completed a full year at Leeds, a full season at Brighton in the PL, and I believe had been called up into the England squad just before his Aresenal move. On this basis, and bearing in mind we sold Michael Keane 5 years ago for £25m, rising to £30m, then not unreasonable to set a figure of £40m for Collins. In terms of Pope, Ramsdale went for £24m, rising to £30m.If you asked a neutral pundit to choose between Ramsdale and Pope the majority would go for the former so anything upwards of £20m would be a good price for Pope.Lets hope the new ownrs dont lose their nerve and belief in these two.

Pickford was truly unbelievable in those last remaining games-particularly v Chelsea which was probably the "goalkeeping performance" of the seasonClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 3:04 pmKept Everton up with some brilliant performances towards the end of the season

Re: Wonder what fee we can get for Popey
Newcastle ? Pope ?
Re: Wonder what fee we can get for Popey
Pickford went for 25m when he was 23 years old. Pope is 30.
So lets reduce 1m for every year difference to give a 7m reduction = 18m.
With Pope being half as good as Pickford, I reckon we can get 9m.

I think NP is going to struggle to take the England no. 1 shirt whoever he plays for with GS picking the team so it's really about the money. It would surely be in our interest to keep him another year and see if we go back up, or even till January when we will have a decent indication of whether that is likely or not. If we do go back up his value probably increases again so for me, it's worth paying him the wages to keep him here rather than sell him way below what we think he's worth. He's a fantastic shot stopper but I think that doesn't benefit the top teams as much as the lower teams. He will win more points for the lower teams than the top teams because the top teams would win most of the time whoever is between the sticks. I think he can make short passes ok so there's no reason why he can't play in that system as long as the 4 in front of him are also up to that style of play. If the 4 are good enough, the GK shouldn't really be put in situations where someone of NP's ability couldn't handle it.

We sold Tom Heaton to Villa for around 9 million - aged 33 and after some serious injuries.
8-10 million for Nick Pope would be an absolute bargain for Newcastle.

And you'd hope we'd get a couple more for the likes of Collins and McNeil since we are desperate for the money.

Mk Dons manager has said they’ve had a few bids for Twine which haven’t met their valuation. Given we bid 4m (supposedly) how much higher do you think we should go?

I think £4m is a very reasonable amount for a player with one season in League One under his belt - certainly not much more than that in my eyes. Throw in a few add-ons and a sell-on and it's about right.
