I don't rate Brownhill as a PL starter but he's already shown that he's a top performer in the Championship with Brizzle
Being in a 2 against a 3 man field, without the ball for long periods of the game in the PL is vastly different than playing in the Champ
He will thrive and be a good player for us - (touch wood) doesn't get niggles, great fitness and will be one of them that can play 90 mins tues/saturday all year - invaluable.

I presume you didn't watch him against Liverpool at home, when he played really well. You talk a lot you do but a lot of its rubbish like this post.

You are entitled to your own opinion on Brownhill, I gave him over a year to prove to me he's a good player, he failed to do that. I thought early on he looked a potential upgrade on Hendrick, give me Burnley Hendrick over Brownhill, all day long.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I'm surprised so many on this board seem to think he's brilliant, soon as he came into the side, we were absolutely dreadful in the middle of the park and every man and his dog last year blamed the lack of an upgrade in central midfield as a big factor in relegation.

Constantly outnumbered in midfield. Constantly closing down.
It’s so easy to sit on the sidelines and be a know it all and criticise.
If you play for a team that dominates possession, which every team did against us, then it’s easier to show your quality on the ball. And in a 3 v 2, you have more time and space to pick your pass, or drive forward.
Brownhill had the exact opposite to work with.
He will be a huge asset to us this season.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
In fairness we’re not all experts, and I for one think Brownhill will do well in the championship. I could be wrong but hopefully not.

I think ‘brilliant’ is a strong word, he clearly has flaws and I think posters are acknowledging them in fairness.KRBFC wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 10:51 pmI'm surprised so many on this board seem to think he's brilliant, soon as he came into the side, we were absolutely dreadful in the middle of the park and every man and his dog last year blamed the lack of an upgrade in central midfield as a big factor in relegation.
From what I am seeing, and mirroring my own opinion, people think that he is likely to be a lot better a league lower as he won’t be competing in a midfield against the likes of Rodri, Fabinho, Kante, Tielemans, Rice etc each week.
Our central midfield was inadequate against the likes of the above, but (in Brownhill’s case anyway) it’s likely to be a different story playing against Luton, Preston and Wigan.

The following season he received the EFL League One Golden Glove (jointly with Wycombe's David Stockdale) for keeping the most clean sheets, having kept 18 clean sheets across 46 league games.[11] He was also named as Plymouth's Player of the Season and in the PFA League One Team of the Year.[12][13]

I think many do see that, and his stats when at Bristol City bear this opinion out.johnnyjones wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 11:38 pmHe will be decent in the championship cant see why people don't see that
A world of difference between playing against PL quality, and the best the Championship can offer.
However if PL clubs are expressing genuine interest, and more importantly are prepared to pay £10m or so, then we might be open to doing business, especially given the amount of CM'S we've recently been linked with.

I suspect Roberts, Taylor, Collins (if he’s here), McNeil and Possibly Cork.
I suspect by the first game of the season the rest of his starting eleven will be new players.
So yes he will play the same set up as he did at Anderlecht.

He was **** in the premier league. The reason we were relegated was because our midfield was shocking all season.
Yet magically the midfield that has struggled against championship sides in the cups recently is going to dominate now? Mid table finish this season if we start with the same CM two.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
What about the cup game against Millwall we won comfortably away 2-0? Brownhill scored that night and was very good. If you are referring to Huddersfield, the midfield two were Stephens and Westwood, one has left and the other out for some time.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 6:10 amHe was **** in the premier league. The Cork / Brownhill partnership was the best one last year in the Prem and had we seen it all season we ‘might’ have stayed up.

Another mention of Majeed Ashimeru.
New Burnley manager Vincent Kompany is ‘determined’ to raid former club Anderlecht and bring Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru to the Championship this summer, according to Football Ghana.

When discussing the merits and faults of Josh Brownhill you also have to consider the system (framework) that he has been asked to play since he joined us. Our system was restrictive beyond belief at times. You could often hear SD shouting “Shaaaaaape”. As someone said earlier this year that framework became a cage.
Think Dean Marney, he was derided for the most part in his early time with us when signed by Laws and then Howe yet he fit the SD system of our first promotion like a glove and became a bit of a cult hero. There are plenty of other players over the years that have fared the same when other personnel or tactics have changed.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting the distinct impression that Newcastle doesn't like Josh Brownhill
Not based on anything solid like "facts", he just doesn't like him and nothing will change that

I've often thought, 'what planet are you on' when reading a lot of poster comments on this board but the remarks about Brownhill take the biscuit!...
There are some severe delusions of grandeur if you think Brownhill isn't good enough for Burnley football club... In fact, I would go as far as to say that, you know very little about football or our club if you think that!...
There is virtually no chance we can replace Brownhill with a better player in our current position... Zero, zilch, diddly squat... Unless we get lucky with buying a young player but even then, it will take years for them to establish themselves as a superior player... What better to have someone like Josh, who has experienced both the Championship and Premiership, to guide them on that journey!
Brownhill is still only 26 FFS... One of you described him as old and past it the other day lol and he's still 2 or 3 years off hitting his prime... Central midfield in the Premier League is by far the most difficult position to master and he got very close to that at times. He was also never played to his strengths and near enough every outfield player under SD's coaching team got worse over time and they failed to get the best out of him like many others... He is also massively admired by much larger fish than Burnley...
If Brownhill stays or leaves, he's going to seriously embarrass a lot of people on this board!

Let's see if we can clear this up.
Josh Brownhill is a decent hard working pro.
He is not the best player to play for Burnley nor is he the worst.
Is it OK to move on now?

I'm not saying that he is prem quality, but even if I was I wouldn't be saying he's a top player - otherwise I'd just say he is a top player. I'm sure it hasn't escaped your attention but we're not in the Premier League, so our players don't need to be 'prem quality'.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 22, 2022 9:32 amIf you are saying Brownhill is prem quality then your saying he is a top player.
