Time to reinvest and move on. Simple.
Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
If there were no release clause this is a very negative sale, Collins were the exact player we should have been keeping and building a new quality squad with.

Shame we didn’t get to see him develop further but it is what it is. I can see why the deal was done. Now we continue our rebuild! Exciting.

Just tweeted this. Will repeat here.
Hopefully a few good players will be bought with that money.
Good luck to Collins. A shame his brief time will be remembered as a failure, some great performances and goals but his red card and handball were pivotal and naive. He’ll be a star - but isn’t yet.

Very disappointed he will be a top player unfortunately at Wolves now

Yep, it’s a conveyor belt.
Something we should have been doing for years.

Did it? Nixon reported Wolves interest 3 weeks ago.

Strangely this one hurts more than Mee and Tarks. Was hoping we could build the team around him and the fee seems on the cheap sideClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 4:31 pmMove confirmed

Absolute bargain! We have probably lost 10m on him because we are relegated- we wouldn’t of had to give him away. He will be 50m plus and a top four player in 3 season I reckon.

I don't think the deal started at this time yesterday... Never returned to the club... Nixon mentioned it 3 weeks ago...

Awful departure for us. Possibly the worst one so far.

Sad loss, but no use crying over spilt milk.
I hope he goes on to prove what a top player he can be, if only to rub it in to his doubters on this board
Good luck Nathan, a shame it wasn't longer.

As mentioned above, it should be a conveyor belt. We’ve not sold our best players at the right time under Dyche. As long as we reinvest I would prefer it like this rather than allowing him to run down his contract and waltz out on a free in a few years time.

If he doesn’t want to be here then why keep him? People on other social media platforms are overreacting and talking like he was Maldini.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
Made a healthy profit on a player that made 18 Premier League appearances for us. Do I think he’d have been great for us this season? Yeah. Do I begrudge him a move back to the Prem? No. Is it a decent deal? Depending on the actual fee, any sell on clause etc. it doesn’t feel like the worst deal.
As long as some of it’s reinvested into a striker and wide midfielder, then cool.
We’ll have to get used to it. The model is to bring players in and make a profit. Not a bad model if we’re successful on the pitch and whilst it’s easy to say we haven’t been in the last 18 months, it’s also easy to point to the lack of investment in the seasons before.
I’m staying positive!

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
Pity he's gone, but we now must invest, particularly in a quality proven striker, but also on a keeper, and a winger.
We can't rely on Barnes and Jay, Hennessey might well be heading to Forest soon, and JBG is injury prone, plus I wouldn't rule either or both of Cornet and McNeil also moving on.
The XI we field at Huddersfield will be totally unrecognisable from the one which started last season against Brighton, or indeed finished the season against Newcastle.
I know we probably expected changes, but this is radical surgery, and we can only hope Kompany's faith in these youngsters is vindicated over the course of the season, because there's an awful lot now resting on their shoulders.

More quality out, no doubt to be replaced by cheaper gambles.
I think the 9/1 about relegation will provide a fair trade opportunity at some point through this season.

In the photo in Tony's article, Collins' hand is half way to where it was against Newcastle.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
A necessary evil. We do need to make money by selling our better players. It will never be popular, as our better players will always have a greater attachment to the fans. The downside of Nathan is the timing and the price, but if we accept that we need to sell to survive, as we have ever done, then this one shouldn't be any different.Clowbridge89 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 4:41 pmAs mentioned above, it should be a conveyor belt. Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
Ultimately a 9 figure sum will be paid to the original shareholders - I’ll leave it at that rather than starting a new debate again about actual valuations. But it’s obviously over £100m.
This kind of thing is needed to find that cash unless new investors inject some cash in. We can go on all we like about hoping this sale is spent on new players, but it doesn’t change the above case of need. It emphasises the tough task Kompany has ahead of him, but, crucially, he seems to be aware of it before he came and appears keen to take it on.

Obviously gone as soon as he didn’t come back in for pre-season. Great talent but file under Weghorst, didn’t want to be here move on with people who want to play for Burnley Football Club.

Agree with that statement, i know it’s only hindsight but if the rumour at the time was that we could have got £30mil plus for Tarks with only a couple of years on his contract left we should have sold and looked for the next gem then.

It's disappointing that his last two games at home he had shockers against Villa and Newcastle. Other than that, he did well for us and it's a blow losing him.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 4:50 pmA sad loss…. Definitely looks good enough to be a top PL player. Very sorry to see him go but it felt like it was always on the cards - if someone came in with the right price etc etc
This transfer now goes down as the highest fee ever paid for an Irish player.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
We've always been a selling club that's just the reality of our standing.
I suppose we should consider it a positive that our players are now going for £20m+ in most cases, the problem will be too keep the conveyor belt flowing, well at the same time build a squad capable of challenging for promotion, and then all being well staying in the PL.

12m paid, reported 21m in, less the 1.5m rumoured sell on fee due to Stoke, means that it's around a £7m profit. Whilst a reasonable profit, if used wisely, it's nowhere near the "More than double" that you quote.CardyTheClaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 4:57 pmMore than doubled our money in one year for an unproven centre back. Shame but it was always going to happen when we went down.
Good player but when they want to go there is little that can be done.
Let’s hope we’ve found the next Collins already.

This is the ALK business model as it's meant to work. If we'd known a year ago he would be here for a year then move on for £20m I suspect we (club and fans) would have been thrilled.
Sad to see him go though. And dismayed but not shocked by the number of people deciding he wanted out and should be slagged off for it.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
So we rejected £20 million as we wanted £30 million and then we have sold him for £20.5 million.
It is becoming a joke. It is obvious he was off, that isn’t the issue, but to get only £20.5 million for him, and only around £12 million for pope is laughable.
Something is clearly wrong at the club and it is worrying. We should have made well over £50 million out of them 2, instead we made only £32-33 million. something is desperately wrong.

Re: ARTICLE: Collins departs for Wolves after one year at Burnley
In his interview after the Ireland game, with his "We'll see where I'm playing next season" quote. It always came across to me that he wasn't sure whether the club will be accepting offers for him. I don't think he was pushing for a move, but that's my gut instinct.
