Its's done mate... Trust me on this
I trust the Burnley board to get the best deal for Burnley, and with so many clubs now interested, there's no rush to do a deal.

I certainly have more faith in Burnley, than in the press.

I am pretty sure he’s “in the building”, as Sean would say. Whether we’re waiting to confirm an exit to soften the blow or just delaying so it remains uncertain for Luton, I don’t know.
I expect it will be to soften the blow.

Do you think there's something they can do with "Benson for Beds?"

Play board: Someone sleeping in a bed, covers pulled over. The clock clicks through to 3pm. The covers are thrown back, footballer emerges claret and blue kit already on, the walls fall away and he's already on the football pitch. Ball played to him. Controls on his chest and he volleys it in the goal. Crowd cheers.

UTC
I'm hoping for Basil Fawlty shouting "Manuel !, Manuel" and Benson appearing !

So much for no financial discussion, does anybody know what that entails can we mention some finances & not others or a complete blanket ban on anything that constitutes currency.

So if Benson comes in and cornet leaves we stand at 10 in and 13 out

Centre back
Striker
Attacking midfielder

Then we are level in terms of numbers. I think we'll end up with more in than out.

Looks like Cornet to West Ham is on

Taken from ExWestHamEmployee (reliable)

‘The club have now met the release clause of Maxwell Cornett of Burnley and will open talks with the player over a move to the club today. The player is said to be very keen on the move and there is real optimism that this deal can be concluded soon’

Good in one sense, if Max is going best we get it done early enough in the window to allow us to source replacements.

Rather that than he moves on deadline day, and we're left with no time to react to his departure.

Let’s hope Piroe or someone of that Ilk comes in to replace. We would have a very strong team if that’s the case

I'll be surprised if we stretch to Piroe, but we do need to beef up our attack, it's fine having possession, but if we lack a killer touch we'll struggle to convert that dominance into goals and wins.

Yes it was more of example.

I’m sure whoever we get in, Kompany will feel they could get the 20 odd goals needed.

Isn't Kompany more interested in spreading the goals around the team instead of an out and out goal scorer?

Thing is, a better and more mobile striker than Barnes would have had a field day on Friday, and for all our domination, we could have conceded from a set piece or a mistake

We do need better options up front

Huddersfield away proves that point, especially the first half chances.

I am pretty certain Kompany will have signed a new striker by the end of the window. Go as far as saying it’s probably his priority position

I disagree about the Barnes comments, I'm not particularly sure he wasted any chances bar getting the shot off earlier for the penalty shout and he got an assist for the goal (if he meant it or not). Personally I felt the big chances fell to Costelloe and that's the position that needs strengthening.
To enable your midfielders to get a share of the goals it's important you have a striker who can hold it up to bring them into play. What we really need is a striker to play off Barnes.

He didn't say or indicate that he was more interested in that aspect of play but that every team he's had were like that and that we will probably need to spread the goals around as we don't have an out-an-out goal scorer ... He also said that if any one player gets the majority of goals then that's great as well...

Hopefully, it's not a blind spot and time will tell but he indicated that it is a position that needs strengthening and that an out-an-out goal scorer is great if you can get one so I think he is aware of that potential issue... 20 goals a season players at any level are like gold-dust though so I don't mind other players chipping in.

Gyokeres’ goal for Coventry at the weekend was the prime example of what a killer striker can bring. It was a clinical finish from out of nowhere. Don’t think we will afford him but he’d the ‘type’ of striker I want - we should just bid regardless to annoy Cov fans more. :D

Bit unfair comments on Barnes last week. I'm not his biggest fan but I thought he played very responsibly, should have had a pen. in the first half and in the second half led the line well, bringing others into the game and making good runs. We definitely need someone to stick the ball in the net but to be critical of a player in the absence of that isn't on.

Hopefully the Cornet situation is very close to being sorted, at long last. Sky now reporting West Ham are in advanced talks over a £17.5m deal.

Presumably, it's the £17.5m release clause, it is being paid up front, or at least a huge chunk of it is. That should massively help cash flow and allows us to further strengthen.

Sky reporter Dharmesh Sheth

‘West Ham United in advanced talks with Burnley over Maxwel Cornet. West Ham preference was loan, but now appears discussions are over a permanent deal - with West Ham prepared to meet £17.5m release clause. Decision will rest with player if other clubs meet clause.‘

I imagine this is a move Cornet will want, European football this season too.

Common sense prevails then.

He’s not a perfect player at all, but he’s absolutely worth £17.5m in this market. Good to see us get it. That alongside the Dwight fee surely gives Kompany the resources to get another three very decent players for this level whilst helping to the debt etc.

Agree with this. I think he’d be fine as an option alongside another striker who will be the one playing on the last man. Ideally either him or Jay Rod in that role alongside a main number 9.

Wrong thread really but why no confidence in Twine to bag 15-20? He looked fabulous last Friday, immediately wrestled the initiative back from Udders and so nearly scored himself.

I agree it doesn't appear to fit the model we are following but the prices quoted are way off what they'll be sold for, they've both basically had one good season at Championship level.

Quotes now that the fee is £20 million, so obviously in instalments. Cornet yet to discuss terms though.

Given the very small profit made on a player who has now had a season of PL football and a decent scoring record maybe Alan has learnt his lesson and won't be including 'release clauses' in future contracts. It makes no sense to limit the possible sell-on value of a player in that fashion.

despite his departure, I think we're signing someone today. But I don't know who.

Quotes now that the fee is £20 million, so obviously in instalments. Cornet yet to discuss terms though.
At least it is West Spam, so we know they aren't likely to default on the payments.

Unlike if we sold to Forest, Fulham or Barcelona

Given the very small profit made on a player who has now had a season of PL football and a decent scoring record maybe Alan has learnt his lesson and won't be including 'release clauses' in future contracts. It makes no sense to limit the possible sell-on value of a player in that fashion.
I wouldn’t class £8 million as a small profit and he hasn’t had a full season yet

Which is why BFC suggested the clause may be invalid when it was made public, as it limited their sell on ability.
