Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Can THB play on the left side though?
Hopefully given all these forward players signed we won't have much defending to do!

How many articles have you got prepared for today Tony and in your heart how many do you think we will get in?

I thought Dervişoğlu was just about done but nothing confirmed, although you can see I'm already practicing the spelling of his name. I don't think anything is agreed with Swansea on Obafemi although we are clearly keen on him.

The passing stats for the last 10 years are dominated by CHs who rarely pass more than 5 yards sideways or backwards, it means nothing.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 10:32 amAgainst Millwall he had the highest % pass success 91%.
THB can play a great long ball, and does often. Charlie's long balls are either way too heavy, or way to short. He gives the ball away when we are set up to be a possession team. How many times have we witnessed him jogging after a CF who has left him for dead. He reminds me a lot more of Maguire, than VVD. He also has made some really strange decisions. At Wigan last week all he had to do was shepherd a ball out for a goalkick, and panicked and hooked the ball into the middle of the box. It isn't the only time this season he's looked uncomfortable.
I'm not trying to have a dig, I said in my OP that he has always been one of the first names on the sheet, but imo this system doesn't suit him.

It was heiaburnley who asked me a few years ago why I always wrote Gudmundsson rather than Guðmundsson - after that I started writing it correctly as I did with Matěj Vydra. So, I've got to carry that on now.

Warning to all. Looks to be fake account field day on Twitter pretending we have agreed deals for this or that player (clue = they tend to have one or two followers). I think I’ll leave it for a few hours and see if the main reporters announce anything developing rather than doing a trawl in the search bar.

"Beyer, who is under contract with Gladbach until 2026, is yet to feature for the club under Daniel Farke"
Other than a couple of spells out injured last season he played quite often but this season he's not played at all. Farke obviously doesn't fancy him.

Re: Transfer Rumours Thread - NO FINANCIAL DISCUSSION
Watford just cancelled Danny Rose's contract. I suspect under the old regime we would have been in for him. Good player but it seems his best days are well behind him.

Would you move THB out of position to accommodate him? Whenever he's come in the other defender has always had to move over to the left to let Long play on the right.claretspice wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 9:52 amNot sure about that. Think it's easy to underestimate Long. He reads the game fairly well and is a technically good defender (he worked with Dyche for nearly 10 years) and is a good athlete - good in the air (which we need - THB is a bit vulnerable in the air and the common theme with almost all the top end teams in the league is that they'll be more physical than us) and deceptively quick - certainly at this level, he'd be perfectly comfortable with the high line that we play. Perhaps he's not as good as Kompany would like with ball at feet (I always thought that when he deputised for Tarkowski, we missed Tarks more in possession than defensively), but again our perception of him is slightly skewed by the fact virtually all his football for us has been at Premier League level where that is magnified. It might be that compromising slightly on the ability of one player of the team to play that way optimises the effectiveness of the team as a whole.
In an ideal world we'd bring in a centre back and Long would probably go to make way. I still think a centre half is our biggest single priority today. But it might be that Long's injury has actually scuppered that - we can't move him out. If he's in the squad, I'd be seriously contemplating him as a better option alongside THB than Taylor.

The fact that Tarkowski and Keane were more comfortable than Long on the left doesn't necessarily mean he's not capable of playing on the left - and interestingly when Long briefly played came alongside Collins at the end of last season I'm fairly sure he did play to the left.
The German lad sounds interesting. I'd prefer a permanent deal but it may be that the loan reflects that at this stage in the window we can't get it over the line, rather than because a permanent deal is off the table. And in fairness, it increasingly looks like we signed 2 centre backs this summer who are medium term projects to give us a ready made partnership for next season - which perhaps makes me a bit more relaxed about a second loan.

You said his passing is really poor compared to those around him, it isn’t. He fits into this system, his role being to keep possession and to pass the ball to TBH or the wing back.Colburn_Claret wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 11:45 amThe passing stats for the last 10 years are dominated by CHs who rarely pass more than 5 yards sideways or backwards, it means nothing.

Collins played on the left when the two played together. Maybe he is capable of playing on the left, but he never seems to regardless of who the other defender is.claretspice wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 12:23 pmThe fact that Tarkowski and Keane were more comfortable than Long on the left doesn't necessarily mean he's not capable of playing on the left - and interestingly when Long briefly played came alongside Collins at the end of last season I'm fairly sure he did play to the left.

From the Athletic
‘Burnley are also understood to have not given up on prising Michael Obafemi away from Swansea. Despite the clubs being significantly apart in valuations, and Burnley having a bid rejected for the Irish international, there is hope a compromise can be reached.’

I know a few people of complaining about loans. But when you are allowed 4 or 5 loan spots in your squad we would be stupid and naive not to use them to the fullest. Every team in the lower divisions will use them

The squad we will end today with will undoubtedly be the strongest in the league imo.
Other teams will arguably have better individuals (Sarr, Pedro, etc) but our depth will be unreal. How we’ll select a bench is beyond me but can see 5 subs being used every game.
