Burnley v Crawley

Post by wbfc » Sun Oct 23, 2022 7:16 am

With one eye on Crawley I reckon this team would be chomping at the bit and would give Crawley a decent game
BPF
Long, McNally, Egan Riley
Dodson Lowton
Bastien Costello
Twine
Dervigoslu, Barnes

I am buzzing after yesterday...but we will have a bad run at some point...I keep hoping Southampton do well so we do not lose Tella ...

I think Bobby Thomas should be recalled ..he looks a good player the few times I have seen him ..and he is getting praise with the Gas...

Then for me the full backs should be Vertino and Matsen...with Roberts, Lowton and Taylor as cover..for me if Lowton is staying he is slightly better than Roberts...

Then centre halfs they have all done well and looked shaky at various points...Taylor has done okay for me..

In terms of signings I would say a striker and a centre half..for me if they need to sell then Taylor and Roberts that may mean we should get centre half to replace Taylor but there would be nothing wrong for me keeping Taylor and having Costello on the bench...

I am not in for all this best team in the league business..and I think the Andrey Gray team would nil this team and win..

But we look to have a good manager who is another decent man and the change from Shaun which was needed has been amazing both in terms of style and success...

I think over a season there may be two teams who finish above us ...but I cannot say who they are now..I have always thought Sheffield and Norwich..but I thought WBA and Boro would have been up there at the start of the season so very hard league to predict..

I would say next year with Forest, Leeds and Bournemouth perhaps some of the teams who could come down that this year was a good year to do what we are trying to do...

With the fixture conjestion due to the WC, do we really need to win this one. The intensity of the league games will ensure that all the players in the squad will get game time, injury and card count will see to that

I think a cup run can do us no harm.

Winning cup games leads to a winning momentum as in the Coyle promotion
Losing cup games with abject performances leads to a feeling of negativity that affects confidence going into the next League fixture
To me a failing of SD and I even think he didn’t give the Europe games 100% but our league form was poor around then despite the rested players and those players were resentful of not getting to start games that they’d earned

So for me we play a strong team but yes rest the older players and any with a niggle but any first teamer that’s fully fit and the right side of 30 should play then give other players that are usually on the bench an opportunity to fill the starting positions and then fill the bench with the fringe players and get them on if we get a good lead

We used to get bigger gates for the 3rd round of the FA Cup than the league game before and after
Crowds are poor in the cups now

A cup run is some of the best memories that you have and the play offs are so good because they have that knockout feeling with the big prize at the end

I don't mind us making a few changes but we should still be trying to win the game. Some of our cup performances under the previous regime were a disgrace.

After the game we should pay Crawley to take Barnes with them on the coach, league two is probably his level now then bring in Jerry Yates from Blackpool in the January transfer window he'd make a good back up forward for us

Ive got tickets for Crawley, really looking forward to seeing some of the fringe players, be good to get the likes of Long and Lowton fit.

Felt at Birmingham and Sunderland we had moved three players because Beyer wasn't fit. Id like us to bring in like for like replacements so and centre back for a centre back etc.

I always look back to the Coyle season and the cup run was nothing but beneficial.

Twine isn't ready to start a game and Lowton left wing-back with Costello defensive midfield? That is one hell of a messed up looking side.

I'd like us to beat Crawley and draw a Prem team at home. It would be interesting to see how this system fared against them.

Norris,
Lowton, Egan-Riley, McNally, Dodgson,
Tucker, Gudmodsson, Helm, Bastien,
Costello, Dervisoglu.

With a few heavy hitters on the bench.

I would like too see as many of our key players as possible rested for this match, Rovers have a clear 7 days before the derby.

We're a much much better side than Rovers, and we're a young team. I don't think that will come into play.

BPF
Lowton Egan Riley McNally Taylor
Benson Westwood Bastien JBG
Dervisoglu Costello

Rests all what i think will be the 1st 11 going forward, whilst giving valuable minutes to those in and around the 1st 11/matchday squad.
Also should be easily strong enough to dispatch of a struggling league 2 side

Agree with MACCA’s team.

Worth mentioning we play on the Tuesday while Rovers play on the Wednesday at West Ham.

In essence we could rest our entire first 11, while they may struggle to do the same down there, or face a big defeat.

Can we stop putting Long at right back. Lowton is the backup right back so why don't we play him there?
And of course we stick with the 4-2-3-1. Why change to 4-4-2 when we don't play it?

I wouldn’t dare play long at RB. I have 4 CBS and 2 RWBs

I overlooked that. I wouldn't be surprised if they make wholesale changes.

What will come into play is the fact that it's the East Lancashire derby.

Interesting that the OP sees Bobby Thomas doing well at Bristol Rovers and thinks we should recall him. Tell is doing well here but he doesn't want to see him return to Southampton.

I think if we lost Tella the cutting edge would be diminished ...
Bobby Thomas should only comeback if he can get on the subs bench...

There is nothing wrong with 'having your cake and eat it'

I hope we can at least avoid defeat against Norwich we then have two winnable home games...

In my opening team Dodson is left wing back and Lawton right...given the game is 3 weeks away I was hoping rather than expecting Twine might have a chance to play...

Do not agree we want to lose any game winning is a great habit...

Blackburn will not be easy .. Diaz is possibly the best striker in the league ...I hope everyone behaves ....I have told my wife and daughter to stay out of town on the day ...it is really sad that people cannot be good losers and good winners ...

I think we'll kill them. They are nowhere near their league position. Every time I watch them they look mid table.

100% Jen. Watched them 4 times now on the box and it is the most false position I think I have seen. They are a remarkably average. Take Diaz out of that side and they poor. I think if we were at even 80% we would be too strong for them. That is not being arrogant or overly cocky. Everything is out of the window on derby day, and it comes down to who wants it the most. As fans we play a huge part in that, I intend to have no voice until the Wednesday after the match.
