Nothing new, I remember ordering a new sofa from DFS in the 90s for delivery before Christmas and We got it just before Easter.Steve1956 wrote: โMon Dec 12, 2022 11:16 amWe ordered a new suite on November 1st and was told it would be in the distribution centre on the 25th of November...nothing happened....got an email from them this morning and it went like this.....
Hello Stephen,ย
ย
I have taken the time to look in to your order and can see it was due in on the 25/11/2022 unfortunately our Uk suppliers are facing a shortage in interior foam which has resulted in a delay we are hoping to have your order in soon and will be in touch once it comes in to your local distribution centre.
Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous in your life?
From Micro chips to interior foam it would be interesting to hear what other ridiculous excuses these people expect us to believe.
There will be a shortage of Turkey fat and Brussel Sprouts next.

Re: Our country is on its knee's
I just don't understand how this has all happened.
We did everything right.
We closed down the economy for 18 months. We printed off lots of new money and paid people to do nothing. We saved the NHS by discouraging people from going out and scaring them into staying at home. And we banged pots and pans.
Then suddenly (out of nowhere) there is inflation, a crippled economy, tax rises, a million less people in work and a recession. And to top it off, suddenly cancer cases are on the rise, NHS waiting lists are suddenly through the roof (thank goodness we saved the NHS) and excess deaths from non-covid causes are suddenly higher than they should be.
It's unfathomable. Since lockdown ended it seems as if the country has had, quite suddenly and out of nowhere, a spell of the worst rotten luck.
I just don't understand it. At least we did EVERYTHING right.

Re: Our country is on its knee's
We ordered from DFS in late summer. Came 3 weeks early on a 13 week delivery timescale. Sounds like either good timing or pure luck on our part.
If they are still advertising it when they can't fulfil the orders they have, it just feels wrong. Albeit I can imagine that they are doing it to maintain cashflow and order books especially when you know people looking for quick lead times this time of year are buying because they need before xmas.
The world just feels proper depressing at the moment doesn't it.
Just glad we got a bit of happiness with our win yesterday. The silver lining to what appears to be a very grey cloud!

Re: Our country is on its knee's
A lot of countries are on their knees at the moment. Of course many were on their knees prior to Covid and Russia's attack. The Chinese economy has suffered terribly due to the austerity of their lockdowns. They are openeing up again and there will be a resurgence. But the damage to some industries like sections hospitality will be fatal.

Manchester Airport. What a joke. Passengers wait six hours for their luggage after a long flight from Beijing. More empty platitudes from the useless management of how they work to achieve customer satisfaction. The gateway to rhe Northwest? Its an embarrassment.

Well actually, Trevor has the correct answer. But crack on with the war/Covid thing.Stayingup wrote: โMon Dec 12, 2022 12:32 pmSupply lines are not what they were since Covid and possibly the illegal Russian invasion of Ukraine. But in fact foam you describe should be made near the source of the end user - in this case your supplier - as its just not worth transporting it from say China. Too bulky and too light to make it cost effective in 40' containers. You will have noticed the trucks that transport this kind of prooduct are very high to allow for more volume.
Re: Our country is on its knee's
On one knee.
Re: Our country is on its knee's
Can I just point out, that the supplier is facing major material issues. It is not just your sofa that is delayed. there is no conspiracy theory, it will come when the correct components arrive..
It1s 2022 and people not a million miles away from here are suffering horrendous, humanitarian crisis, but as long as you get your sofa to sit your fat arse on before Chrimbo

This is not new.
I was sent into a company to help them improve.
They won a major contract on the XWB 97 K .
After 5 months work, me living away from home doing 12 hour days.
They as a major composite manufacturer just as I get them on plan announce they have run out of composite fibre.
Bit like a water company running out of water.
There are companies out there who take incompetence to a new level.

It's true, the company who I work for use Clinchplain ( Nelson), Vita foam ( Manchester) and Horizon foam ( Darwen). All of them are in the same boat struggling to get the chemicals they need to make the foam. It has affected most local companies - Boyuant, Furnico and Tetrad who would probably make the furniture for the big companies mentioned in your post and others have said.Steve1956 wrote: โMon Dec 12, 2022 11:16 amWe ordered a new suite on November 1st and was told it would be in the distribution centre on the 25th of November...nothing happened....got an email from them this morning and it went like this.....
