Re: January transfer window rumours.
We can criticise Pace for a lot of things, but the change in the type and scope of the recruitment from the SD/Garlick era is pretty profound
It shows the value of a stable club, as its no surprise we started to really struggle when things weren't too hot behind the scenes

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Lallana signed for £90k a week and has spent a large part of that injured.
Brighton have spent a fortune in transfer market and are making huge losses. They have wasted a lot of money on duds too.
Up until the last couple of seasons despite spending a lot more money than Burnley they rarely finished much higher than us.
Like us they seem to have done well in their managerial appointments.
Unlike us they have very wealthy owners prepared to lose small fortunes subsidising their club.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
A lot of their wasting of money was done in the first couple of seasons under Hughton. It’s fair to point that out but also acknowledge what they’ve done since. Their net spend since Potter arrived has been one of the lowest in the league (sales of Ben White and Cucarella for 115m).Big Vinny K wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 7:44 amLallana signed for £90k a week and has spent a large part of that injured.

Lallana hasn’t been injured too often, 24 appearances last season and every game so far this.

Actually on checking Lallana has played more than I realised - apologies. Still not sure he has been best value on nearly £5m a year.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 7:48 amA lot of their wasting of money was done in the first couple of seasons under Hughton. Their owner has put in not far off half a billion into the club. They are making losses of £50m to £60m a year.
They have not reported a profit for at least 4 or 5 years now.
I agree they are doing well now and look a really good team to watch but it’s taken a lot of money to get to this point after years of not pulling up any trees.

In other news we’ve been linked with Ameen Al-Dakhil a 20 year old centre half who plays n Belgium.

Belgian U21 International, but born in Baghdad. Seems to be well regarded at his club and also linked with Spartak Moscow (hmmm, can't be many players wanting to move to Russia right now, surely!).
I won't pretend to have ever seen the bloke play, but after the success of Zaroury, Benny, Vitinho etc you can't help but be excited to bring another young talent in from over there. It's a position we need another in really when you consider our current pairing are both on loan, Long will go on a free, Taylor is a left back filling in and McNally (24 this year, so not a spring chicken per se) has seemingly not done enough as yet to impress for much of a first team chance.

Kouyate of Metz is the other one you are referring to. Al-Dikhal was subject of a bid/bids from Burnley also, reportedly .

Yes I suppose the one from Belgium who hasn't made it (so far) is Samuel Bastien.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 9:39 amBelgian U21 International, but born in Baghdad. We were linked with him for sure. Since then he's added plenty more games to his CV- 15 more in the Belgian top-flight - for a team with the 3rd best defensive record in the league.

Jury still out for me but he hasn’t done too badly, just can’t get a gig because of Cork and Cullen’s outstanding form.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
He looked really good in pre-season and I thought he was brilliant in the first game at Huddersfield. I think he's just a victim of circumstance in that Cork and Cullen have been SO good that he is just not going to get a kick ahead of those two really. Still only 26 so plenty of time for him yet, but you do perhaps feel that if we go up he might become the odd man out as you'd imagine we will be after a long term Cork replacement in the summer.

Good luck to him - what a fantastic signing and servant he has been for this club. We got £3.5m for Trippier, and brought him in for a million and he delivered just as much success really (not saying he is as good there!). He owes us nothing.

Totally agree, hard to imagine anyone has a bad word for him (although I admit that is a brave statement on here) and glad he has got fixed up somewhere to play games.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 11:08 amGood luck to him - what a fantastic signing and servant he has been for this club. He might even hammer home the winner against Sheff Utd for them

Been a very good player for us. Glad he’s got a move for some first team football and Hudds have made a clever signing there.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Perfect situation with Lowton. Lots of people on here saying that players are just happy to take a wage when not featuring. I disagree-the majority of them want to play, after all their profession is football.I wish him well and he has my respect for wanting to prove himself in a new club. I hope Kevin Long can get fixed up too, now that Westwood has signed for Charlotte

Pearson’s comments about looking for a ‘maverick’ might be a reference to a possible part-ex with Barnes?ClaretAL wrote: ↑Wed Jan 04, 2023 1:33 pmBurnley join Bournemouth as interest in Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo continues to grow

Semenyo, plays more out wide doesn’t he for Bristol and at 5ft8 isn’t the the big number 9 we need.
Personally would have surridge over semenyo but I would take both if barnes and halil where to leave

Certainly nice to be linked with up and coming talent and with a realistic chance of getting them as well

The guy from Swansea ain’t much bigger,I know we seem to play with a false 9 ,but someone who could run,and was the size of Haarland would be useful.

I’d be very surprised if we signed Semenyo, Bournemouth are about to start throwing a bit of cash around I believe and they are rumoured to be interested. I would have thought that the fee would be too high for us even if we were the only club in. Maybe a bit of Billy bullshitting is going on to get who we actually want here

Re: January transfer window rumours.
If we need a striker to gobble some goals up this season and get us over the line, as opposed to a long term project, I think Surridge is a better fit. Semenyo looks a very talented player but he is not a goal scorer per se is he? He seems more like the type we might go for in the summer should we go up. Just my opinion perhaps...

All tactics from clubs this throw a few strikers out there and we end up signing obafemi for cheaper than we would of had to in the summer
