Re: Foodbank collection???
There is a collection at every single daytime game kicking off in the afternoon hours (2,3,4,5,6pm)
For games kicking off before 1pm and after 7pm, there is a collection at the fanzone.
There is always a collection, ALWAYS.
Thank you for your contributions

Re: Foodbank collection???
Great initiative - cleared a cupboard full of baby food the other day that was bagged up to donate.
Gave them to my nephew to put in the bin who now wants to take something to every game now.

Foodbank Collection - Awareness?
I was somewhat shocked to see the small amount in the bin at the bottom of the long entrance lane by the TV stuff and team coach.
When I placed my tin, the volunteers were about to move on and yet there appeared to be 2 plastic bags with items, at the bottom and that was it.
Given the bags were the same type, was this just one family donating?
I am sure there are many thousands of Clarets, who would wish to try and do their bit to help others.
How can we increase awareness and donations?
What is stopping folk doing what I know they would be happy to do?

The Club could certainly do much much more to publicise the collection. After all, it is for BFC in the Community!IanMcL wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 1:37 pmFoodbank Collection - Awareness?

I am sure you are right Leisure. How does the relationship work?
Nonetheless, as we have demonstrated, this Board has power to harness, for good too.

Re: Foodbank collection???
From their website - We are the award-winning, official charity of Burnley Football Club. But from their lack of publicity and support for the Foodbank collections you wouldn't think so!
Re: Foodbank collection???
Perhaps they don't agree with food banks??IanMcL wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 1:37 pmFoodbank Collection - Awareness?

Re: Foodbank collection???
I don't agree with foodbanks! There should never be a need. It is the modern day soup kitchen!
Nonetheless, today there is such a need. Donations essential.

I think he means a reason why people are not donating.

Iam neither for or against, my only gripe is when people using them are interviewed they are never asked where their money is spent

Re: Foodbank collection???
I'm afraid the collections receive no support from the football club - "Nothing to do with us," the club's director of fan experience told us. As for Burnley FC in the Community, we had meetings with them in July and October last year. We put forward lots of suggestions and as of now they have done absolutely nothing about it. The lack of support is appalling.
I've spoken to fan groups of other clubs where they collect for totally independent foodbanks. Everton & Liverpool get brilliant support from their two clubs and when we went to give them some food in December 2019, their chairman Bill Kenwright was leaving a donation. Our last two chairmen have both snubbed collectors. West Ham told me they get help from their club including articles in the programme; we have been refused that. David Sullivan dipped into his own pocket to the tune of around £70,000 to improve the facilities at the foodbank they support.
Why do we continue to collect? Simple answer, there are people desperately in need. It's why I always take a donation, including away games when I know there's a collection.

Perhaps the club don't want to show favour to any one particular cause, then all the other ones will be asking for club support?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 2:51 pmI'm afraid the collections receive no support from the football club - "Nothing to do with us," the club's director of fan experience told us. Re: Foodbank collection???
Not what they've said publicly with a big statement supporting it - and as a reminder it's the club's own charity who are running the foodbank. If they didn't want to show favour they could easily shut it down.
Re: Foodbank collection???
They aren't shutting it down, they allow collections on their property, I just wonder if they need to take a step back, otherwise what happens when other causes ask to be allowed collections, toys for kids, warm clothes for the elderly, they can't allow them all.....some people struggle to get in for 3pm as it isClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:02 pmNot what they've said publicly with a big statement supporting it - and as a reminder it's the club's own charity who are running the foodbank. Re: Foodbank collection???
The lack of communication and publicity has been beyond disappointing. Volunteers turn up week after week after walk. All the club need to do is give us access to the wheelie bins. It was a brilliant idea of BFCSG and the club were very much on board pre pandemic. Nowadays, we get very little thanks, but we do it to help those in need.
If only the club put a tweet out on Friday evening and Saturday lunch time…or a few messages on their Facebook feed.
If only the club flashed a few adverts up on the screen or rolling adverts during a game…the impact COULD be absolutely huge.
If only the community helped us to ensure that monetary donations can be made.
We’ve offered soooooo many thoughts around collections/ moneys/ gazebo with information etc…
…we’ve had NOTHING back, NOTHING!

I doubt there's anybody who doesn't realise there's a collection. If they want to donate they will, if they don't, they won't.jdrobbo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:32 pmThe lack of communication and publicity has been beyond disappointing. Re: Foodbank collection???
That’s not the issue; the issue is how much greater the collection could be!

Re: Foodbank collection???
Would it?
Most people walk past the collections every home game so know they exist
They are well advertised on twitter and Facebook
Old fashioned word of mouth makes people aware
Anyone who reads this forum knows
Would a tweet from the club on Friday night make all that difference?
Re: Foodbank collection???

Re: Foodbank collection???
Just one example
A nurse, I believe from Burnley was interviewed because she used foodbanks....the questions never asked were
Why?
Thousands of other nurses on exactly the same pay don't need them..why?
Does she eat more
Does she drink more
Does she smoke more, have a bigger car or house than all these other people
I'd like to know those answers before donating from my hard earned cash....genuine hardship I will gladly help, those that I'm not too sure about, I won't.
Re: Foodbank collection???
More children, poorer accommodation requiring greater heating, lives further from work? Etc etcNori1958 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 4:26 pmJust one example

I think I question why you need those questions answered at all. No one wants to live off a foodbank/soup kitchen.
Re: Foodbank collection???
No idea because the question was never asked
I want them answered because all are avoidable, why should I finance someone if they spend their wages on, for example drink,to such an extent they need to use a charitable food bank
Re: Foodbank collection???
I can see you don't anyway.
Re: Foodbank collection???
If 10 people are in need but 9 are through poor management of a meagre income ans one is totally deserving, does one stop trying to help/feed any of them, during any other help process?

With respect, I bet I’ve spoken to over hundred people who have asked me what I’m doing and why we don’t advertise about it.Nori1958 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 4:20 pmWould it?

Re: Foodbank collection???
Those 9 could perhaps be assisted in other ways
My mother has no income other than a state pension, is that classed as meagre?
She feeds herself, pays gas electric phone Internet etc etc, and some months actually saves something...
Re: Foodbank collection???
Assisted in other ways yes. In the mean time 1 dies of starvation and so do the other 9, whilst awaiting their help!
