Them down the road v Champions
Re: Them down the road v Champions
Well. That was pretty rubbish.
Not sure what shape we're playing.
JBG seems to be trying to play as a striker, Rarely dropping into midfield. Trying to push the defence back? But as we've never played a ball over the top. They're stepping up anyway. Maybe one of our Strikers on the bench would be more suited to that role if indeed thats what he's trying to do?
Vitinho needs to be reminded he's a young millionaire playing in a local Derby and not look so fing depressed.
Only Barnes and Al Dakhil seem "up for it". Although Maatsen's class showing. The rest. Meh. Take your pick on who to sub off.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
Game delicately poised , missing that element of individual skill.
I’d like to see us retain possession better in the middle of the park.
I suppose a typical hard fought local Derby but I expected more from us. Definately room for improvement and Gudmundsson to get into the game more would help

Re: Them down the road v Champions
What does VK say and do to change the second half
Re: Them down the road v Champions
I know he’s a ******* ,but might be worth a cheeky bid for Wharton.
Re: Them down the road v Champions
For the record through, away at their place 0-0 having not played great is a good outcome.
We have the players, options, systems and fitness choices to make a decisive change and go on to win this.
Ideally getting the first and being in a position to break on to 2 or 3-0

Re: Them down the road v Champions
Completely agree re. ball in behind. I suggested Obafemi to start in my team for this reason. Everything is being played infront of Blackburn's defence.

On another note, how sad is it to see all those empty seats for a Elanclassico game?! I find that astonishing

Poor half, still reasonably confident we can end up comfortable winners.

Benson, Cork and Foster for Vitinho, JBG and Barnes

Re: Them down the road v Champions
As expected really, too slow to transition, too sloppy at the end. No surprise, but I will be sick if VK doesn't turn it up second half.
Benson on is a no brainer, but what we need more than anything is a bit more urgency, and speed. We can't keep trying to walk the ball in the net, and expect any joy.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
He's been quiet as he's not seen much of the ball. But I'd keep him on and see how he starts the second half given he's been in such good form.
I've no idea what you mean by your second sentence.
The obvious change would be Benson for Vitinho.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
I think so many comments on here totally disrespect our young team who are probably very tired after delivering promotion so early.
Don't underestimate the massive effort that's got us PL football.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
They certainly seem to want it more but in reality have had the pressure but still not looking like they’d score.
For me Barnes when he comes around the center circle consistently loses it, whether from Muric or an outfield player. Much better when he’s up near their box though, am many have said Vitinho off the game. Also like Cork on and Brownhill moving further forward for Vitinho, I’d leave JBG on for now but only for another 15 minutes or so, then swap out for Benson. Also think Foster on for Ash after a relatively short time, or maybe JRod.

This game is to be expected, Blackburn are going to be trying their very hardest to not let us win.
Stop fretting, We won’t be playing them next season.

Benson and Rodriguez on with 30 to go.
Have no fear.

Has to be a concern just how toothless we are without Tella, also our best option upfront (VK choice) is leaving in the summer on a free.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
We won't play worse and don't think they can play better, Benson and cork on in this half and hopefully we can have a repeat of the reverse fixture. Massive 45 coming up, VK will give them all a rocket up their arses I'm sure. But concerned about brownhill being on a yellow, need him pushed up.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
A bit too much panic and its hard to play our game in a maelstrom.
Agree re Cork for JBG to get Brownhill forward but Obafemi or Foster instead would give us that option over the top. Happy with either but we cannot enter these games with one deep lying central midfielder and one who shifts to other positions to boot. Brownhill has never been a deep lying one as we saw under Dyche.

Not sure I buy that - have we put more effort in than other team or have we just been better?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 8:56 pmI think so many comments on here totally disrespect our young team who are probably very tired after delivering promotion so early.

Every team (and some with much smaller squads) have played the same games as we have.
This is a case of who wants it more.

Re: Them down the road v Champions
Would not surprised to see Jack on, we seem unbalanced with Vitinho, JBG and Zarouury allplaying and having lack of control in CM. Play is very predictable and slow with half our passes being between our two centre halves and have hardly threatened at all
Re: Them down the road v Champions
Blackburn wont keep up that midfield intensity for 90 mins and they always concede late

Re: Them down the road v Champions
They will tire second half though… they’ve been so energetic to play at that tempo it has to drop second half. Benson and Obafemi will tear it up when they do

As other have said we look like we need the Cork-Cullen fulcrum back in place with Benson on the right.
