Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Am I reading it wrong or do some really suggest that we are more attractive destination than Brighton who just finished 6th and will play in Europa League?

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Clearly we’re no where near as attractive and probably can’t pay him as good a salary. I think the one thing (and it’s possibly a big thing) that might make us more appealing though is that it’s Kompany and his old GK coach who brought him through at Anderlecht here. That might count for a lot, especially as he’d probably be our guaranteed number one.
Who knows…

I agree but they will do well to replace MacAllister and Caicedo with a similar standard.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 12:49 pmIm not sure about that, they seem to steadily progress year on year

For some reason I'd be gutted it we get beaten to Verbruggen, more so than other players we've been linked with. Not sure why. Maybe he seems to have a higher ceiling than some of the others going off reports.

Not sure if verbuggen would supplant Sanchez at bha. I’m surprised that they have kept Steele as a #2 since he was a castoff from Blackburn and he wasn’t very good there. But I don’t think verbuggen signs for a PL team to be a #2 even for a couple of years.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Sanchez seems to have had a fall out with the manager so given Steele has been a back up keeper until the last couple of months it’s no surprise Brighton are after a new keeper.
Think there is little chance they are looking at him for no2 keeper either given his attributes. He dropped Sanchez because he preferred Steele’s ability with his feet.
Given what Brighton are getting in transfer fees this window (£100m plus) it’s going to be tough to compete with them if their interest is genuine.
Our one hope is VK and any relationship they have had in the past - but that’s going to have to be pretty special to beat the potential fees and wages Brighton can offer over and above us.
If we lose out so be it - hopefully it won’t define our season and Muric made big strides last year.

Sanchez is not starting for them. In fact he's not even in the squad because he refused to be a substitute.AshevilleNCClaret wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 3:08 pmNot sure if verbuggen would supplant Sanchez at bha. Most keepers want to wear the shirt. I’m surprised peacock farrell has stayed this long and wouldn’t be surprised to see him go. Muric won’t want to be 2 either…. It’s hard to get a keeper for the future since they need regular playing time and you can’t really get that by being stuck behind someone else.

I lurked over on the Blackburn boards and they thought he was pants. I wasn’t too impressed with Sanchez so I can totally see them going for verbuggen now, especially since the #1 shirt would be up for grabs.

Sorry that’s the long answer.
Short answer is that muric should not be the 2nd choice behind verbuggen.

We are being strongly linked with some expensive players. I wonder who we will sell, to balance the books?

If I was guessing I would say the following players are risk of being sold:
Bastien, Churlinov, Jay, Taylor, McNally, Twine, Brownhill, BPF and potentially Vitinho.
I don’t think we will sell all probably only a handful but there contract situations and the fact we are playing in a higher league make me think they might make the list.

We’re gonna have to sell some. As soon as we replace the loan players the squad is looking chunky.
Assuming VK wishes to increase the calibre of the squad then some will be chopped.

I agree we need to be selling those that were barely good enough for the Championship, now we are in the PL. Plus we proved this year that your bench needs to have some game changers and I dont think players like Twine, Vitinho, Churlinov,Bastian, and Jay are those players that can do that in the PL. Brownhill I think is liked by VK and I think a better player than when we were last in the PL. If we sign another CH then McNally and Taylor can go too. Twine should go out on loan in the Championship as that could keep his value up-I think we paid a fair fee of £5m for him. Think it will all become clearer when they return from the camp in PortugalNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 4:41 pmIf I was guessing I would say the following players are risk of being sold:

Brownhill I could see leaving, he’s got one year left in his contract and unless VK sees him as a certain starter in the next few seasons then I reckon he will sell him. As he will surely be one of the highest earners in the prem.
I think Taylor and Jay are potentially certs for leaving.

When was the last time we included an outgoing player in a deal to sign a new player and why are some on here so convinced it's a possibility?

No way should Muric not get a shot at being our number one next season.
He was practically flawless for the second half of the season.

Muric played well enough to make spending north of £10m on a new keeper an absolute non-priority...unless there's funds available that massively outstretch our expectations.
I suspect this won't happen.

Whilst I agree in some respect with this, we have to bear in mind that next season he will have more goalkeeping to do, and less dribbling. That applies whoever our number one will be. Muric looked great because we were on the offensive and building from the back quite a lot. We won’t have anywhere near the time and space we enjoyed last season.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I’ll trust Sacha over Nixon (or anyone else for that matter) when it comes to a potential Belgian league player joining Burnley. The pull of his ex-manager and GK coach could well be the decider here.
R.e Muric, he was fabulous second half of last season, largely faultless (bar Watford at home). The reality is that Kompany is a winner and if he can improve upon ANYONE in this team with the budget he has, then he will do. We should also take massive excitement at the fact that we clearly have £15m+ in our budget to spend on a position that was not really seen as anything approaching a priority. Something very interesting (and exciting) afoot with our transfer budget this summer.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
At the end of the day if theres an expectation this guy will go on to to be a world class keeper, be it Burnley or Brighton, the move will be a stepping stone. This renders the whole ‘which club is more attractive’ debate meaningless as he will go to the club he feels best placed to take him to the highest level. With the connections he has to our coaching team, I’d say we’ve got a really good chance.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
One of two key areas I think we desperately need to strengthen so I welcome the news of Verbruggen potentially coming in.
The main priority is at least one new striker, preferably two. Depends what happens with Weghorst.
With Barnes gone, Rodriguez being past it and Foster just being pony, our striking options for the Premier League are pathetic. Don’t think Obafemi is up to it either.

so did Southampton year on year, but came unstuck in the end, that conveyor belt is difficult to keep funneling good players through it, but yes, so far Brighton have been very good at it.

Having a Billionaire owner who is a lifelong fan of the club helps Brighton a wee bit too...
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Personally I feel a new #1 GK is a very low priority, but that's just me, quite a few more important positions that need upgrading and I'd prefer to see how much we are spending on those positions. However, I recognize sometimes outside influences dictates what happens and I'll leave the recruitment team to the decisions, obviously!

The most important area we need to improve is a striker. We can't depend on our wingers to score enough goals to keep us up. Hopefully we'll get tella and another proven goalscorer.

Steady on tom
I can't see such a sale but other than Twine leaving I wouldn't be disappointed because it would mean VK means business.
The reality is likely to be different but hey , every single one of us is entitled to speculate because that's what makes life exciting.
What's happening at our club is something many haven't experience in their lifetime
