A minute, tops! (Although presumably you can’t decide in a minute if it’s “all the time”)

I never talk about myself. The people that do are full of themselves and egotistical. I perfer people who are self-effacing and modest, like myself.

'Don't give monkeys' comes from the Merchant of Venice; I would not have given it for a wilderness of monkeys. I know quite a bit of Shakespeare, but I don't like to let on.Hendrickxz wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 8:17 amThe worst bit is when she talks about other people you don't know, haven'y met and basically don't give a monkeys about!

It's so hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way.

A 1980 novelty hit for Mac Davis, a Singer Songwriter from Lubbock, Texas where Buddy Holly came from .. He was earning $100 pw working for Nancy Sinatra, when Elvis Presley released his composition " In the Ghetto ", the first interim Royalty cheque was over $23,000 !!!Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 10:02 amIt's so hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way.
Many years later aged 60 and in semi-retirement, he was just finishing a round of Golf when a friend called, " Congratulations on your hit ! ", a non-plussed Davis replied " What hit ? ". He'd no idea that " A little less conversation ", a song from one of Elvis's last movies had been remixed by Dutch DJ, JXL, and had been used by Adidas in their advert during the 2002 FIFA World Cup ... It hit No.1 in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland & the UK, and was a top 10 hit throughout virtually the rest of Europe ..
Mac's retirement pot was topped up substantially ... he passed away after a short illness in Nashville in 2020, aged 78

I find, sadly, in this world that there are very few people who ask how you are and are genuinely interested in your life. So many people only talk about themselves, and as others have said it's incredibly tedious when conversations are one way only.

Or, they could have ADHD which often presents as someone who talks or a lot or, especially, interrupts what you are saying to say something almost random that has just popped into their head.
PS I reserve the right to remain silent about whether this may refer to me, though I would find it almost impossible to not keep blathering on

Does it count if you talk to yourself all the time.
Re: People who talk about themselves all the time…
Annoys me when someone says , do I think they should and go on to ask a question to themselves then answer it. Simon Jordan who I quite like does it all the time, last week he said, "Do I think VAR should be speeded up?" Then said "yes I do, " Just say speed up VAR.

Re: People who talk about themselves all the time…
Totally agree. I always make an effort when getting to know someone to ask them lots of questions. As you say, it's tedious if they don't make any effort to do this in return.
My brother has had a new partner for around a year now and every time I've met her she's rattled on about herself and her exploits at great length, and I've listened and asked questions, but I don't recall she has ever asked me once about myself. If I do attempt to talk about myself, she quickly brings the conversation back around to herself. Drives me nuts, I only persist for his sake really.

Yes, why waste your time on someone who talks about themselves when they could be talking about something far more interesting: ME...!

Re: People who talk about themselves all the time…
Someone I know loves nothing more to talk about himself and his family.
In itself that’s fine but he never reciprocates by asking about you or your family.
And even when you are talking about your kids to him you can tell he is not listening and thinking about what he’s going to say next about himself or his kids
Next time I’m in the pub with him I’m going to test out my theory that nothing you are saying is registering with him. I’m going to inform him that my daughter has just been arrested for punching King Charles.
I’ll bet good money the response will be “That’s nice…our Abigail is going to see Coldplay tonight”

I don't think Abigail will be able to go and see them unless she is in Naples ... they aren't on till next week ... doing a residency at the San Siro for a few nightsBig Vinny K wrote: ↑Mon Jun 12, 2023 10:43 amSomeone I know loves nothing more to talk about himself and his family.

Re: People who talk about themselves all the time…
Chris Evans has made a very good career out of it. I stopped listening to him when he was doing the Radio 2 Breakfast show as all he ever did was talk about himself. His friends, his kids, his wife, his cars, his pub, me me me me me me. And then he played a record and talked through the intro about himself and then cut the song short at the end to talk about himself.

He’s at his place in Spain.
I’m over there next week so might give him a call to meet up for a power lunch. If The Burnley Petrocelli can’t get her off launching Chaz I’m not sure who can.
