Did I read somehwere that he’d been subject to racist abuse gently and wanted to leave ?LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:07 pmYes he is left footed but usually a centre back with very limited experience in matches and Borussia Dortmund seem keen to offload given he was contracted to 2026.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It's such a bonkers sum of money for us to spend on a GK that it's making me genuinely wonder if behind the scenes we've pulled down some Saudi Arabian team's pants and are sending them Wout for an actual profit or something. This is mad. Can only assume the analytics and scouting reports are showing something that suggests this lad has absolutely immense potential, because we can get goalkeepers who'd slip straight into the team for way less than £19m.

I wasn't questioning his ability, as you say he's performing well for the U21's, just thought we might be up against other clubs for his signature.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:34 pmCould say the same about Ramsdale when Arsenal bought him. Appeared to be no other club chasing him-look at him now . He is one of the Prems best keepers. A few on here seem surprised, claiming Trafford has not played much competitive football in the higher leagues. Getting in to the England U-21's is some achievement if you look at the quality of players they have. I am sure they would give the England national team a good game. He could become some player, and where better to start strengthening than in the spine of your team. Now lets move to CM.

Leeds, Leicester, Sheff United and Boro were all in for him (according to reports over recent weeks).Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:53 pmI wasn't questioning his ability, as you say he's performing well for the U21's, just thought we might be up against other clubs for his signature.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Coulibaly signed on a free by Borussia Dortmund in 2021, only played twice for the first team and 16 times for the reserve team. His first team appearances included being entirely blamed for allowing a goal to be scored costing BD two points. Contracted to 2026 and now possibly coming on-loan with a must buy deal for15m Euro's which includes the loan fee. Another speculative deal which we hope VK gets right. He did miracles last year with his deals, so lets hope he manages it again.

I’m unconvinced there’s a correlation between what we’re spending on a GK and what that means for the rest of the window.
In a system like Kompany’s, the GK is vital. He may have seen the purchase as the top priority of the summer.

Maybe we have been on this for a few weeks, and Pep managed to help out VK before it became common knowledge. Plus most of the top PL sides seem to already have good keepers, and Trafford thinks he has a good chance of starting with usConroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 9:53 pmI wasn't questioning his ability, as you say he's performing well for the U21's, just thought we might be up against other clubs for his signature.

I would have thought replacing Barnes was the priority given our strikers are not likely to be scaring PL defenders to the core based on their performances for us so far. Yes JayRod scored goals but he is not likely to be ripping up trees this season.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:00 pmI’m unconvinced there’s a correlation between what we’re spending on a GK and what that means for the rest of the window.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It's a fair point. The difference in our overall build-up play last season when we had Muric in goal and BPF in goal was night and day, except our goalie is going to be doing a bit more goalkeeping this season, so there's a logic to making such an investment in that position because it's fundamental to our attacking game. It's just that the lad has barely any experience that's a bit of a worry, because the fee pretty much guarantees he's being brought in to be No1.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:00 pmI’m unconvinced there’s a correlation between what we’re spending on a GK and what that means for the rest of the window.

If this is indicative of the "pool we are fishing in" this transfer window, then for me this heightens the need to sell a few fringe players, or as a minimum loan out. Weghorst, Peacock Farrell, Taylor, Bastian, Vitinho, McNally, Egan Riley come to mind. The first three before their contracts end

It'll be interesting to see what kind of team can be built when we use the Prem millions for their intended purpose....ie funding football of a quality befitting the best football league in the world...

I’m guessing that’s an autocorrect but I’m trying to work out who “Duncan” isWoodleyclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 8:49 pmWe've got McNally to help secure Flemming and cash could be raised on Duncan, Peacock-Farrell and Wout
Loaning out Wout is not a good idea when a permanent sale is much preferable.

Agreed, although it could be £15m over 3-4 years, which wouldn’t be that much if we stayed up for a few years and raked in the TV money.Spiral wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:08 pmIt's a fair point. I think it’s increasingly obvious that transfer fees are rocketing in the PL. You only have to look at Southampton’s spending last season. It was about £150m on barely anyone who had kicked a ball for a first team.

I still feel that Muric starts with the jersey and Trafford has to win it from him. I think it makes us strong and James has moved to second choice at a Prem League team with the potential to become the number 1.

We forget that moving up one position in the PL, can get you £2m per position. Where this keeper is meant to be exceptional are his reflexes, calmness and anticipation. He could easily secure us another 6-10 points in a season, plus one mistake in the PL can cost you 3 points. How many points did Heaton earn us when we finished 7th

But you need to keep some back, otherwise in case of relegation without an instant return we are basically knackered, as other clubs who spend without quite a bit in reserve are quickly finding out.fatboy47 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:09 pmIt'll be interesting to see what kind of team can be built when we use the Prem millions for their intended purpose....ie funding football of a quality befitting the best football league in the world...

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Some ambition if this is just a start, badly need quality in midfield and forward areas that I’d have prioritised way ahead of a new central defender and GK. Desperately need a LB too.
So, first choice ST, LB and CM to go. Cover for Zaroury LW and maybe even a first choice RW given Benson was largely used from the bench with Tella starting.
Also I feel sorry for Muric, whilst being excited about Trafford. Hopefully there’s plenty left for further key reinforcements. This is proper recruitment, some top young talents from around Europe, so exciting to see them develop here. Hats off to Pace, VK and the recruitment team.

What’s the difference between storing it in the dry powder reserves and investing it into too young footballers?
One significantly helps the footballing side and hopefully helps avoid relegation. Players don’t suddenly become worthless once you sign them.
