It’s more likely that Redmond would be signed as an upgrade/replacement for Churlinov rather than instead of Tella.
Would be an excellent signing for a 9 man bench.

I'm really hoping for some positive movements this week. VK needs to get some time to work his tactics with the players

We didn't buy anyone last season with parachute payments as we didn't receive any.

Wonder if Burnley might be one of the teams in for Scott.

Not at £25m we won’t be.
Transfer fees have kicked on again in the 12 months we’ve been out of the league.

Bristol City want at least £25m, Wolves and others in for him. Doubt A) we'd be one of them and B) he'd choose us over others.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:27 pmWonder if Burnley might be one of the teams in for Scott.

I think Scott being quoted at 25mil isn’t helping the rest of fees in the championship, bit like when McCormack went to Fulham and then when Watkins went to villaNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:27 pmWonder if Burnley might be one of the teams in for Scott.

I’m just thinking is this the reason we are going for Townsend and Redmond in the wide areas, so that we can go big on a primary target for VK. I could see Scott being someone VK wants

If Scott is valued at 25 million and is sold for anywhere near that price ,then football is well and truly on the road to ruin.

The way Scott picked out Twine in the build up to our second at Ashton Gate perhaps he thought he was already playing for us….

I get why he’s that expensive. Hes certainly got the pedigree to be an excellent premier league player.roperclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:49 pmI’d really hope that for £25 million we would be looking to bring in a much more proven established midfielder. Not a 19 year old with potential.

what pedigree. An almost identical profile (perhaps lesser) than Brownhill when we bought him. And you don’t think he’s good enough.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:54 pmI get why he’s that expensive. Hes certainly got the pedigree to be an excellent premier league player.

He’s played two full seasons of championship level football at 19 years old and played for England u20s.
Brownhill hadn’t made a single championship level appearance until he was 21.
That’s not even a remotely similar profile

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Redmond is a decent player with good Premier League pedigree (and no less than Pep is on record thinking he's a better player than given credit for). No accident Saints were relegated the year they let him go.
We've got to accept we have a limited budget, doubtless made more limited by the fact that since ALK took over, debt finance has become significantly more expensive/difficult. If we are spending big on a keeper, having already spent sizeable money on Bayer and O'Shea, then we're going to have to be pragmatic in a couple of areas. If say Kompany wants the lad from Metz and that's going to be a real significant fee, or to spend big on the lad from Millwall, or for the midfielder at Wolfsburg - we are going to have to cut our cloth elsewhere. Not every player we sign this summer can be part of the money ball plan - we can't afford the capital for that.
Not chasing Tella to ridiculous fees, and signing =
Redmond on a free instead, might well be a sensible part of that balancing act. After all, this is the player who a season ago kept Tella out of the Southampton team.

Rocked up playing for Guernsey in non league.
Two Seasons at Bristol City - their fans think he’s good.
Josh Brownhill.
Released by Man Utd Academy
Rocked up at Preston in League 2
3 Seasons at Bristol City - their fans though he was good.
Pretty similar other than Brownhill did Two years grounding in league 1 whereas Scott did 6 months in non league

Burnley see free agent winger Nathan Redmond as a cheaper alternative to Nathan Tella, who is being priced out of return from Southampton. #Burnley

It's a very weak argument regarding any sort of resale with either, they are free because nobody really wants them, if any sale could be realised both wouldn't be in the position they are in now.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 8:54 pmNot sure how that makes any sense when both are on frees
Townsend has no resale value, Redmond possibly still has, especially if he can return to the levels he used to be at

I’m not sure. Yes, last year we bought cheap (we didn’t have any money) This year we seem to be around the £12 - £15 mill mark (Beyer, Trafford, Coulibaly, O’Shea and some of the others we have reportedly interest in). Not Cheap. Or free older players (Townsend, Redmond) with no resale value. Now maybe there is profit to be had in the future on those £15 mill players, but it doesn’t seem to fit Buy cheap and sell high.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 8:53 pmWe haven't sold anyone yet tbf!

Is he an agent? Facing competition doesn't mean resale value it means he's a good bet at just paying his wages for the job he does, I'm not against freebies but when you are done with them that's it.

Redmond is on a free as he only agreed a 12 month contract with Besiktas. I'm not disputing that as a free agent it's hardly surprising pay the man his wages he'll do a fair job & assist & score the odd goal. I dispute the argument promoting him on a resale basis.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
You said Redmond he is on a free because no one really wants him. That's incorrect - he's on a free because he only signed a one year contract and it appears PL clubs are interested in him.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 9:15 pmI'm not disputing that as a free agent it's hardly surprising pay the man his wages he'll do a fair job & assist & score the odd goal.
