Weghorst Reception
Re: Weghorst Reception
Sorry ,but I just don’t like the guy ,had mine own business for many years ,I blame him ,and the club , if someone came to me ,and said I want a job with your firm, but if things get tough “I’m on my bike “ I’d have thought no way ,should never have been allowed anywhere near Turf Moor

Not during the game, no
Never chanted Laws out either as far as I can remember
Far too annoyed at the board for appointing him
That kind of thing is best left to message boards

Re: Weghorst Reception
Just spoken to someone who was there. He said there was some booing but also support from others. He said nothing like as bad as portrayed on this thread.
Having said that, it just shouldn’t be happening at all.

Re: Weghorst Reception
So you'd be happy with people booing him during the match?
You reckon that, er, freedumb of choice decision will help or hinder the football club we both support win games?

No he clearly was not better. He scored no goal for Man Utd. Who will create 5 more chances a game than we will.bumba wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:06 pmCan you show me where he said he was too good for the championship? Which in all fairness going off his career before us he clearly was.
From what us fans know he had verbally agreed with the owners to be allowed to leave if relegated because Holland's manager had refused to pick him for his one and only chance to play at a world cup if he played in the championship, how many others jumped ship immediately without the chance of a world cup place yet we've had discussions about which we'd have back this season
Boils down to this for me is he an upgrade on what we have??
He's better than JRod, Foster and Obafemi so he goes straight in as backup striker to Amdouni he could be the difference between staying up or going down

In normal circumstances that’s probably the way to go, he held all the aces during the negotiations such was the desperation to replace CW late in the day coupled with the perilous league position.Carwin261 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:18 pmSorry ,but I just don’t like the guy ,had mine own business for many years ,I blame him ,and the club , if someone came to me ,and said I want a job with your firm, but if things get tough “I’m on my bike “ I’d have thought no way ,should never have been allowed anywhere near Turf Moor

Players get booed by fans all over the world. I am pretty sure Mike Tresor will know that.Claretnick wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:16 pmI am sure Tresor or any other player considering a move to Burnley would be mightily impressed hearing our so called support booing and abusing one of their own players.
Why can't folk use some common sense?
The guy left us when we were relegated and then, after the lads have done all the graft of getting us back into the Premier League at the first attempt, he swans up like nothing has happened.
Its hardly a shock that he's getting a bit of stick.

Re: Weghorst Reception
Look, you are imagining every one has your own low standards of how to support a football team
I don't
One, there isn't much point because it changes nothing
Two, I tended to be too disappointing in the dreadful performances we put in under his stewardship (with one or two notable exceptions) to do anything rather than just shrug my shoulders and sigh (bit like Weghorst I suppose)

I’ll call it out if anyone boos our own players at Turf Moor. Really winds me up that some people can’t support the team. It’s ok to not like players or be disappointed with performances, but actively undermining them during a game is just not on.

Maybe, but we didn’t have another out and out striker on the bench and 80 mins for Foster might have been his current limit.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:31 pmYou might be right, bodies still to come in but in regards to our attacking fluidity I just don’t see kompany sending a player on from the bench he didn’t intend to use. Plus, if you’re trying to sell someone, it might not do any harm not to make it look like he’s been completely frozen out or you look more desperate to accept a low fee.
I’ve honestly no idea. Just not sure today tells us anything.
If he features in the next 3-4 preseason games, then I’ll start to think we might see him this season.

It wasn't a good video for building bridges and booing a player shouldn't happen either.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jul 22, 2023 9:27 pmThat video they put out showing him arriving at the training ground didn’t help did it? However, I can imagine the fans that have travelled all that way, despite what is being made out by others, was to boo a player in our shirt. Our strength has been our connection to the players and the effort and commitment they make to playing for the club and the town.
Weghorst has simply been allowed to come across as a mercenary who was too good for us last season and is now coming back when he can't get a better offer.
It's not a straightforward as just forgiving and forgetting. Its about the player demonstrating alignment with the culture and ethos of the team. We support hard work and players who want to play for the club and be successful in the team.
What has anyone seen that says this is what Weghorst wants to do? He is just interested in himself.
The last thing we need is that lack of connection between the team and the supporters though. Time for the PR team to work on this before the seasons starts I hope. Time for Weghorst to decide what he wants too.

But he wasn't good enough to attract a satisfactory offer - went off for year's loan to Besiktas - and then left them in the lurch to sign for United, where he also failed to impress and was unwanted.
Now that Burnley have won promotion back to the Premier League - due to the efforts of others - he turns up to pick up his Premier League wages from us again.
How on earth that is comparable to Ben Mee giving a decade of outstanding service but not being offered the deal he wanted and going to Brentford, or Pope signing for Newcastle, is beyond me.

Re: Weghorst Reception
Left Wolfsburg under a cloud because of his stance on covid vaccinations, and was known to be a trouble maker there.
Despite being only second behind Lewandowski in the scoring charts for a number of years, ZERO clubs were interested.
We needed a goalscorer and Weghorst was desperate to save his WC chances, so suited both parties at the time. Only came on the proviso that he wouldn’t drop to the Championship, and in desperation we agreed.
Incident after the Watford game.
Spat with Roberts.
Number of articles in the Athletic that when he was here he was arrogant and talked down to fellow players.
Like it or not, he’s a divisive character, and that’s proven to be the case at Wolfsburg and now here.
His arrogance has shone through on a number of occasions. He thinks he better than the club, or did, and he thought in his first stint he was better than his fellow players.
I don’t agree with the booing/abuse but it’s hardly a surprise.
Weghorst being here risks the harmony and togetherness we have built over the past 12 months.
Get rid.

Re: Weghorst Reception
That's unacceptable, i kind of understand people booing him but I don't agree with anything further than that, if WW want's some of a future & to be universally accepted there's only 1 way of doing it that's by applying effort, if it isn't already past that point.
