Yes, brilliant assist.
Fingers crossed Gomez is still on the cards!
All that might be true but it's not how negotiations work.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 12:43 amSouthampton have reportedly rejected the opening bid of 9 & value him double that 18 expecting an improved bid maybe meeting in the middle, if "the price will be close to £9" the bid would have been accepted today or at least negotiations would be underway without the rejection, there's no evidence he's unhappy or would "stink the place out", you are correct with nobody else appears to be interested in him.
NEVER!!claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 8:31 amWill some Burnley fans go all Coventry and boo Maatsen next season if he played against us
Lets not get carried away with Maatsen's pre season performances just yet. He was brilliant for us last year and I liked him, but the pressure in top 6 PL clubs is immense and Chelsea have a huge talented squad. Once the season starts he will do well to be close to the first teamagreenwood wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 8:10 amWeird the Maatsen looks like he might be cementing a role in Chelsea’s line up. A few on here didn’t think we should sign him due to his supposed frailties.
Southampton don't need to sell & Southampton want to get promoted as soon as possible. If you bid close to a figure you usually get a counter offer or some signs/indication that you are somewhere close. From the sounds of it 9 is nowhere close even if Southampton wanted to sell.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 8:40 amAll that might be true but it's not how negotiations work.
If you agree that no one else wants him then his price continually drops - if they need to sell.
Just look what happened to Brereton D down the M65. They continually held out for an unrealistic valuation (i.e. one that no one was prepared to match), and after a couple of years he made a pre-contractual agreement elsewhere and they got nothing for him.
I'm not claiming to be ITK, or that we will get him for 9m, but I do believe he will eventually come here, and clearly the longer the window goes on then the stronger hand we have - unless another club comes in for him at an inflated price.
I guess we'll have to see.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 9:20 amSouthampton don't need to sell & Southampton want to get promoted as soon as possible. Some 'fans' booed Weghorst even though he's still a claretclaretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 8:31 amWill some Burnley fans go all Coventry and boo Maatsen next season if he played against us
but that was in a LB position - if anyone here had suggested push further forward they would have been told how little they know the game of football!agreenwood wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 8:10 amWeird the Maatsen looks like he might be cementing a role in Chelsea’s line up. He also said today that he still needs to let quite a few players go, squad way to big and will have a lot of unhappy players if he doesn't trim it down so still ore to leae Hes not played LB yet - So will Poch get rid of the wide left players he has and keep Maatsen or is he putting him in the shop window - since poor little Burnley seem the only ones interested - just a thought
I’m wondering if they might try and cash in on Cucurella?
Thought we had already signed himGuller Bull wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:43 amLarsen link

Didn't Arteta do something similar with AMN?Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:30 amCynical me is pretty sure that Chelsea will play Maatsen as often as possible till he signs a new contract, then he'll be loaned out
Its up to Maatsen really - he probably needs to leave to guarantee first team football and he's still a very young player with his entire career ahead of him, so you'd think him and his representatives will see through what Chelsea are doing
Arteta had an interesting interview yesterday. He said their squad is up to 30 players now and they quickly need to trim it down to 25.
I think we'd have to offer Taylor, Bastion, Twine and Benson plus £10m to meet their valuationJambounchained wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:20 amCould we not offer Coventry Bastien?
Would love us to get Hamer but I'm guessing that ship has sailed now.
I think the list includes Townsend and Larsen. So 3 more on top of that, probably a midfielder, left back and winger.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 11:07 amThere would be a fair few leaving then if that happens one would think
In the perfect world we probably do, 2 CM's, 1 LB, 1 CB, 1 ST
Lokonga is currently injured. This would make the medical awkward. Can’t see much happening until he is fit again. Possibly why it is quiet on that front.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 10:57 amArteta had an interesting interview yesterday. I suspect things might start moving quickly with Lokonga
Medicals can be passed if a player is injured. For example, Nahki Wells did that while signing for us.Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 12:28 pmLokonga is currently injured. you clearly haven't seen him play then, he was excellent against NewcastleJakubs Tash wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 8:52 amI still think it’s kidology from Pochetino re Maatsen. He’s hardly going to say he’s unhappy with him, is he?!
Look at how many first team players are missing from these teams Chelsea are putting out. Maatsen hasn’t played at all at LB and has been playing in a more advanced role. Can anyone really see him playing that more advanced role for them in the PL with all the good players they have for that position?
No, I didn't watch that. A pre-season friendly between Chelsea and Newcastle on late at night in the UK didn't really appeal.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 2:20 pmyou clearly haven't seen him play then, he was excellent against Newcastle
he played in that team last night with Mudryk and Nkunku and didn't look out of place. He might not start every game but could easily be in their 25. He's taking his chance that's for sureJakubs Tash wrote: ↑Thu Jul 27, 2023 2:40 pmNo, I didn't watch that. So based on his performances you fully expect Maatsen to start in an advanced position when the PL begins? Ahead of Mudryk, Sterling, Nkunku, Madueke et al (plus any further signings Chelsea will probably make between now and then)
We're just short of another winger
I can't see anyone over there matching Jay-Rod's current salary; i don't envisage him playing much, but suspect that he'll be on the books until next summer; at best maybe someone will take him on loan and fund at least part of his wages for the year.
That was Burnley last season too.
