Mainz v Clarets
Re: Mainz v Clarets
Could be a back 3 of Ameen/Beyer/O'Shea with Roberts and Brownhill as the two holding midfield players, JBG & Redmond as the two 10s, Koleosho & Zaroury wide, Foster up front. Cannot see otherwise how we play Roberts at fullback and expect Brownhill to be the lone centre midfielder, even in a pre-season friendly.

It's a friendly. Still incoming and possible outgoing yet. Perhaps you should look at the Huddersfiled away team from last year then enjoy the season.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 2:20 pmIt’s very disappointing that for several reasons that it looks like we will be starting next season with a weaker team than we finished last season.

We've only lost one player, plus the loans. It's not that bad.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 2:18 pmIt’s very disappointing that for several reasons we will be starting next season with a weaker team than we finished last season.

Re: Mainz v Clarets
I suppose in possession Roberts goes into midfield and JBG goes along side Redmond. Still really nervous with us basically having no proper defensive midfielder. If this Lokonga deal falls through we're gonna be scrambling something terrible.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 2:25 pmPretty certain this is the formation

That would be a bizarre formation.Spiral wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2023 2:24 pmCould be a back 3 of Ameen/Beyer/O'Shea with Roberts and Brownhill as the two holding midfield players, JBG & Redmond as the two 10s, Koleosho & Zaroury wide, Foster up front. -------GK
--CB--CB--CB
---CDM---CDM
RW-CAM-CAM-LW
--------ST
It'd be incredibly narrow behind that attacking line. Think it's more likely Gudmundsson's at CDM alongside Brownhill as he played the role a few times last season, and we either put Dakhil at LB with both fullbacks stepping into CM on occasion as their midfield men go wide, or have something like:
-----------Trafford
----O'Shea Beyer Al'Dakhil
Roberts------------------Redmond
-------Brownhill--Gudmundsson
Koleosho------------------Zaroury
-------------Foster
The CMs functioning a bit more up-down and aggressive playmaking like a Modric, rather than deeper play, with both wingbacks given even more licence to attack, Roberts tucking inside sometimes like he does, and JBG dropping into LB when Redmond bombs up- like he did sometimes for Maatsen last year.

Zaroury clattered.
Cant for the life of me understand why so many teams we're playing are loving to dive in in a preseason friendly.
