Some posters spend an amazing time ‘worrying’ about our transfers! We have a manager and board who seem to funnily enough know what they are doing.

I hate it when fans use nicknames for players like they know them personally.

My overriding point is that I’m concerned with the amount that we’ve seemingly spent and haven’t seemed to have particularly increased the strength of the starting XI

I’m not saying there isn’t more business to be done, I’m saying I’d have thought given the proximity to the start of the season we’d have had filled a few more holes than seemingly pulling straws to see who plays left back against City and if Corky can managed another PL campaign in DM.

There’s a fine line between being ambitious and daft and I still want to err on the side of caution by not betting the house on the side every season.

Remember we have also signed players with VK and the back room staff that didn’t/haven’t worked out, nothing is a given… with regards to the gems (which I agree with) I think you’re alluding to Cullen/Benson/Zaroury three players that Kompany had first hand knowledge about.

You look at peoples ‘teams for City’ and it looks extremely underwhelming for the position that I thought we’d be in at this point of the preseason, coming off of last season at least.
Al-Dakhil, Ekdal, you could throw in the loan signings too, particularly Beyer. There's been some duds of course there has, but every manager signs duds. Not many though.

Looking at the two big money signings - Amdouni and Trafford. It's surely evident that Amdouni is going to be a starter and seen by VK as an upgrade in our forward options? Trafford is the current first choice England U21 keeper with the potential to be world class. I'm a big Muric fan, but his fallibilities were clear. Strong competition for him can only be seen as a plus. Both will have been scouted extensively.

Left back is such a crucial position for us, with a very unique role - it's a shame that Chelsea now have a very good, youth orientated manager now, but it is what it is, so we have to move on from Maatsen. Maybe we thought IM was more of a goer earlier in the window but then caught on the hop with how much pre season game time he's actually had? It's a difficult position to fill, but it's clear we're still looking to fill it. CM, I would imagine Lokonga has been a long term one with the VK/Cullen links from Anderlecht, but again, we don't know his contract situation. Sometimes these deals are complicated.

I don’t really get the “haven’t improved the starting eleven” talk.

Our ethos last year was to have someone go hard for 60 then another do 35. It wasn’t about the first choice eleven, it was the power of the wider squad. How many substitutes scored? Loads if I recall correctly. Then we factor in improvement over 12 months in young players.

That wider squad seems much improved. I still expect us to sign Tella, or someone better. I also expect us to sign Hardman if Maatsen is a no go. Lokonga too. That would mean no position where we are weaker than last year.

Even before those three, we have spent loads more than Everton, Sheffield, Luton, Palace and other rivals. After those three, it would be a sensational window.

Stop it with your logic and common sense.
You should be panicking and thinking you know better than a manager who has just had one of the greatest seasons in the clubs history.

I don’t see that world class potential if honest. Think that’s a bit of a hype job - also don’t think City let’s a potential world class player leave.

All this same stuff was said about Bazunu

Agreed that we’re big on playing the full 90 hard with fresh winters but we weren’t rotating centre mids and full backs mid game were we?

Roberts and Maatsen were more or less ever presents if started, or Vitinho/Chaz would fill in sporadically.

Been done to death now, see where we are in another week/two weeks time.

Think if we’re chucking 100 mill at a window when we still haven’t paid all our debts off is risky business. Looks good on paper but there’s definitely a balance to be had.

Saints don’t want to sell Tella and are in fact set to give him a new deal (Nixon).

If weghorst is to leave to go to Roma, do you think we might go in for akpom? Didn’t start for Boro today due to uncertainty about his future
Akpom was on the bench following an injury concern.

I get the feeling the offer of a new deal is a token effort to show the fans they’re trying so very hard to keep him. Doesn’t mean to say he’ll sign it.

I’m a bit fatigued by all the Tella stuff now - would absolutely love to have him back but if VK doesn’t feel the price being asked by Southampton is value for money then I’ll accept his judgement.

Is it all really VKs judgement on player valuations?

I sincerely doubt it, he has enough on his plate.

He may want/not want Tella/player X but the board are unwilling to meet certain fees if they don’t value the player at whatever value the selling club do.

I’d be pretty flabbergasted if our sole recruitment was all down to VKs word

Since the ‘free tella’ tik tok video there hasn’t been a single report about tella being any closer and not potentially signing a new deal. Just makes the video even more stranger

I would hope all parties involved in negotiations are a bit more adult than to be upset by a Chairman supporting his daughter.

When she’s telling people she’s involved with the media team at the club and using the clubs facilities and tagging the chairman in, it’s a little bit more than a kid having fun. If the deal was practically done and it was at reveal video stage then it would be a great bit of media. But the fact is it’s not close at all

Can we move on from that? Nobody was arsed other than our respective fanbases despite the pearl clutching on here. Even Saints fans didn’t seem that fussed. It was perhaps a little misguided to involve Pace himself, but it was clearly just a lighthearted thing.

Hoping we can get Lokonga over the line soon.

Nixon:

Burnley have joined the race for Brazilian midfield sitter Vinicius Souza.

The Clarets are struggling to land targets like Sabri Lokonga at Arsenal and have explored the idea of Souza.

Souza is available and has also been linked with Sheffield United. He qualifies for a permit after his time with Lommel in Belgium and Espanyol in Spain.

Burnley may commit if they can agree terms. Lokong is proving elusive and Vincent Kompany wants extra midfield options by the kick off.

Clarets are also waiting for Aston Villa to sort out their side of the deal for Aaron Ramsey.

Disappointing re. Lokonga but had wondered why it was taking so long.

Souza looks more in the Palhinha mould, physical defensive midfielder.

Being her dad's daughter, she'll be a fan of the club.
Being a fan she's doing nothing more than 1000s of Burnley fans have been doing.
Being young she probably didn't realise HER joke would be misrepresented beyond everyone else's.

I too think the only reason Lokonga isn't signed up is because he has doubts. If that's the case we should move on.
A real shame as he would have been good for us, and we would have been good for him, but any player that isn't 100% 'in', is never going to give his best.
It might be why Palace failed to get the best out of him, his head was elsewhere.

With Lokonga, I'd guess, and hope, that any delay is because we are negotiating hard on the terms of the obligation to buy, resulting in an understandable delay.

I think a few deals have got away from us. Obviously because of the fees asked. Clarke … Flemming… Hamer look dead in water and Lokonga is not looking good either. As we are now looking and Ramsay from villa and the Brazilian lad.
Looks like our first and second options are gone we are onto our third option now.

If so, at least we have third options.

Yeah even though most of these players are not getting signed up by anybody else ?? Are we now seeing a "backlash" for paying a small fortune for a goalkeeper that we may or may not have needed ? Now we can't seem to pull the trigger and pay the extra 1-2 million to get other deals over the line.

Fwiw - Nixon has also said Lokonga is still first choice but we have other plates like Souza spinning.

What I don’t understand is we are prepared to pay 15m for Daramy but won’t pay it for Hamer. Who just had an assist for Coventry. Looks really energetic skilful midfielder.
We seem obsessed with wingers.

Hamer’s passing range is incredible. Levels above anyone in our midfield for sure.

Perhaps you should ask our championship winning manager who most have every faith in to do well this season, I've a sneaky suspicion he knows what he's doing

Hamer looks superb for Coventry. He's created 5 chances in the 25 minutes I have been watching.

Would get the best out of Foster for sure.

Can’t read too much into these two deals as Daramy (if it happens) won’t be paid for until next summer. Hamer would have to be paid for now.
